  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of an intravenous injection case-based clinical performance examination for improvement of problem-solving skill, nursing process application, nursing skill, and learning satisfaction. Method: This study's design was a randomized control group design. A total 93 students (experimental group, 49 control group, 44) who were junior nursing students in South Korea were included in this study. Data were collected from August 12th to 19th, 2010 and analyzed using SPSS 18.0. Result: The mean score of problem solving skills, intravenous injection skill, and learning satisfaction were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group. However, the mean score of nursing process application was not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: These results indicate that the case-based clinical performance examination is effective for problem solving skill, nursing skill, and learning satisfaction. Therefore, it is recommended to adapt such teaching methods with integrated nursing practice education for various clinical skills development.

  • Many concept of occlusion have been introduced in the past, but there isn't any generally accepted unified theory since a single occlusion theory cannot represent the natural perfection, especially considering the difference in clinical experience, the dynamic occlusion, and individual diversity in mastication pattern. NAT(Naturgemasse Aufwachstechnik)/NFR((Natur Funktionsgerechte Rekonstruktion) occlusion is not just a theory on occlusion, but a clinical occlusion that can be practically applied to clinical practice by providing dynamic occlusion adjusted to the individual mastication pattern and biomechanics. This report aims to provide a guide to a clinically biomechanical occlusion through the teamwork of both the dentist and the lab technician by introducing the NAT occlusion through following: reviewing the concept of occlusion in terms of morphology, its correlation with NAT/NFR occlusion, reviewing the limitation of conventional occlusion theories, and introducing the clinical application of NAT/NFR.

  • Objectives : This study was undertaken in order to establish clinical application of Taegeuk acupuncture treatment by Sasang(4-type) Constitutional medicine. Methods : 1. Dr. Lee Byung-haeng suggested nine applications of Taegeuk acupuncture treatment of Soyang(lesser Yang) type men. 2. The author summarized the application of Taegeuk acupuncture treatment gathered by clinical experience. 3. The author researched the effect of Taegeuk acupuncture on patients after treatment. Results & Conclusions : 1. Taegeuk acupuncture treatment is effective against psychogenic disease. 2. Taegeuk acupuncture treatment is effective against autonomic nervous system dysfunction(For example, blood circulation disorder, etc.) and has an effect on recovery from sub-health. 3. The author conclude that Taegeuk acupuncture treatment for incurable diseases or diseases of unknown etiology needs a further clinical study in the future.

  • A 15-year-old, spayed, female American shorthair cat presented with recurrent corneal sequestrum in the right eye. The cat had undergone superficial keratectomy twice for corneal sequestrum treatment 5 and 11 months previously. Two layers of porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS; Vetrix BioSIS®) were applied to the surgical corneal defect after keratectomy. Thereafter, clinical signs, such as lacrimation, blepharospasm, and corneal ulcer, disappeared 50 days postoperatively. Moreover, the application of SIS with keratectomy prevented recurrence until 651 days after surgery. SIS could be applied as an additional bioscaffold for surgical repair of corneal sequestrum recurring after superficial keratectomy alone in cats.

  • This study was done to review problems in terms of statistical description and statistical application and analysis. Methods; The authors reviewed 42 statistical clinical study papers excluding 12 Overview papers, 75 Descriptive papers, 48 Animal studies out of 177 papers in the Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry in the 5 years from 2002 to 2006. Results : 1) 3 papers(7.1%) had no description of statistical method, only P-values, 25 papaers(59.5%) had tables without description of statistical method, 1 paper (2.3%) had no description of statistical method in study method. 2) 10 papers(23.8%) contained problems in terms of statistical application and analysis. 6papers (6/23, 26.0%) for Student t-test, 2 papers(2/7 28.6%)for $X^2$- test, 1 paper(1/15 6.7%) for the analysis of variance, 1 paper(1/6 16.7%) for Pearson correlation contained statistical problems. Conclusion : It was suggested that consultation of investigators with statisticians and more extensive statistical refereeing, the form of the guidelines for description and application of statistics are needed.

  • Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a multisystemic complex disorder characterized by hyperphagia and impaired satiety which lead to severe and early obesity. In infancy, hypotonia and poor suck are main problems, and a child goes through Failure-to-thrive. During childhood, clinical manifestations change to food seeking as well as excessive weight gain, short stature, developmental delay, cognitive disability and behavioral problems. Also, growth hormone insufficiency is frequent. Most patients receive the recombinant growth hormone (rGH) therapy that provides improvement in growth, body composition, and physical attributes. The clinical care guideline for rGH therapy in PWS had been noticed in 2013. The rGH therapy helps in body fat, lean body mass, height SDS and head circumference. Also, the rGH therapy helps motor function, psychomotor development and cognition and behavioral issues. In Samsung medical center, there are clinical care guidelines for rGH therapy in PWS and an useful application for the patients. 'Living with PWS', the name of an moblie application for PWS patients, was introduced in the lecture. The application revised to version 2. It was made more convenient to users than in version 1. It helps caregivers to schedule the rGH therapy and to monitor height and weight.

  • Background: Increasing numbers of studies and research about artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have led to their application in clinical trials. The purpose of this study is to analyze computer-based new technologies (AI/ML) applied on clinical trials registered on ClinicalTrials.gov to elucidate current usage of these technologies. Methods: As of March 1st, 2023, protocols listed on ClinicalTrials.gov that claimed to use AI/ML and included at least one of the following interventions-Drug, Biological, Dietary Supplement, or Combination Product-were selected. The selected protocols were classified according to their context of use: 1) drug discovery; 2) toxicity prediction; 3) enrichment; 4) risk stratification/management; 5) dose selection/optimization; 6) adherence; 7) synthetic control; 8) endpoint assessment; 9) postmarketing surveillance; and 10) drug selection. Results: The applications of AI/ML were explored in 131 clinical trial protocols. The areas where AI/ML was most frequently utilized in clinical trials included endpoint assessment (n=80), followed by dose selection/optimization (n=15), risk stratification/management (n=13), drug discovery (n=4), adherence (n=4), drug selection (n=1) and enrichment (n=1). Conclusion: The most frequent application of AI/ML in clinical trials is in the fields of endpoint assessment, where the utilization is primarily focuses on the diagnosis of disease by imaging or video analyses. The number of clinical trials using artificial intelligence will increase as the technology continues to develop rapidly, making it necessary for regulatory associates to establish proper regulations for these clinical trials.
