  • Hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) with fluoride molecules in their structure which are evaluated as the third generation replacement alternatives to chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are known to be excellent for removal of nanoparticles and fluoride-type soils due to their low surface tension and high wetting index. In addition, HFEs have good physical properties with no flash point and excellent drying characteristics. But, HFEs also have shortcomings in that they are not effective for removal of organic soils due to their poor solubility in soil. In this study, $C_5$ HFE-based cleaning agents were formulated through addition of solvents such as isopropyl alcohol (IPA), ethyleneglycol monoether (EG), propyleneglycol monoethylether (PM) to HFE-7100 [$CF_3CF_2CF_2CF_2OCH_3$] or HFE-mec-f [$CF_3CHF=CF_2OCH_2CF_3$] with its maximum amount, respectively, in order to have no flash point for the safety in the working environment. These solvents are known to be excellent for dissolving organics in soil. Their physical properties and cleaning abilities for fluxes, water-insoluble cutting oils, and fluoride-type oils were evaluated and compared with those of other cleaning agents with single components. The experimental results show that the HFE-based formulated cleaning agents have various good physical properties which are almost similar to those of a single type of HFE cleaner. They show excellent cleaning ability for fluxes, water-insoluble cutting oils, and fluoride-type oils. These results indicate that the HFE-based formulated cleaning agents can be applicable to various industrial cleaning fields because of their good physical properties and cleaning abilities for various soils.

  • Objectives: Aircraft cabin cleaning work is characterized by being performed within a limited time in a narrow and enclosed space. The objective of this study was to evaluate the exposure levels to dust, ultra fine dust(PM2.5) and black carbon(BC) among aircraft cabin cleaners. Methods: Active personal air sampling for respirable dust(n=73) and BC(n=47) was conducted during quick transit cleaning(cabin general and vacuum-specific) and seat cover replacement and total dust and PM2.5 were area-air-sampled as well. Also, size distribution of particle was identified with the cleaning workers targeted. Dusts were collected with PVC filters using gravimetric analysis. The concentration of PM2.5 and the particle size distribution were measured with real-time direct reading portable equipment using light scattering analysis. The concentration of BC was measured by aethalometer(filter-based real-time light absorption analysis instrument). Results: The geometric mean of respirable dust was the highest at vacuum cleaning as 74.4 ㎍/m3, following by replacing seat covers as 49.3 ㎍/m3 and cabin general cleaning as 47.8 ㎍/m3 . The arithmetic mean of PM2.5 was 4.83 ~ 9.89 ㎍/m3 inside the cabin, and 28.5~44.5 ㎍/m3 outside the cabin(from bus and outdoor waiting space). From size distribution, PM2.5/PM10 ratio was 0.54 at quick transit cleaning and 0.41 at replacing seat covers. The average concentration of BC was 2~7 ㎍/m3, showing a high correlation with the PM2.5 concentration. Conclusions: The hazards concentration levels of aircraft cabin cleaners were very similar to those of roadside outdoor workers. As the main source of pollution is estimated to be diesel vehicles operating at airports, and it is necessary to replace older vehicles, strengthen pollutant emission control regulations, and introduce electric vehicles. In addition, it is necessary to provide as part of airport-inftastructure a stable standby waiting space for aircraft cabin cleaners and introduce a systematic safety and health management system for all workers in the aviation industry.

  • Fast track completion of urgent typhoon damage recovery construction project is becoming crucial for the prevention of the secondary damage from the next year typhoon, prompt psychological stabilization of flood sufferers, the early recovery of damaged infrastructure condition and so forth. As the recovery learning process has been continued for last consecutive typhoons and experts suggested, the keys in attaining the goals of the project (preventative, sustainable, cleaner and fast tracking development) are found to be the early contracting and improved competencies in project management especially during the design phase. It can be presumed that the former is attainable through administrative supports in the form of government guidelines, but the latter necessitates more research efforts. In this regards, this study aims to find a way how to lift up the current level of project management capability facing ever changing project mangement environment of urgent typhoon recovery project. By comparing the current level of application of government guidelines in flooded districts and analyzing the time required for each phase from design contracting to construction starting, several reformative ideas are illustrated in association with the necessity of adopting CM method in the deign phase. It is highly expected that CM application in the design phase can be an effective alternative in overcoming current limits in improving the quality of the project and prevent the delay due to the lack of expertise and professional workers in the owner side.

  • King oyster mushroom(Pleurotus eryngii) is one of the most commercially important mushrooms in Korea. Development of fruit body and disease occurrence are sensitive to environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide(CO2) concentration. The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in the growth environment of king oyster mushroom by installing Airocide, an air purifier for the purpose of improving mushroom cultivation environment. The results of the environment conditions, identification of pathogenic organisms and pathogenesis during the cultivation were as follows. Airocide operation increased the CO2 concentration of the cultivation room by more than 400 ppm on average, but the increase of CO2 concentration at this level had little effect on the quality and growth of fruit body. Operation of the Airocide tended to reduce the air humidity of the cultivation room and required more humidification. In humidifying conditions, the Airocide has the effect of lowering the species and density of bacteria and reducing bacterial symptoms and abnormal fruiting body of mushroom. Pseudomonas sp., the mushroom pathogen, was isolated from the cultivation room without Airocide, resulting in serious disease and loss of yields, so that only about 83% of substrate could harvest normal fruiting bodies. No disease symptom caused by bacteria and fungi in the cultivation room with Airocide. Trichoderma sp., Penicillium sp. and Cladosporium sp. were isolated from all experimental conditions, but did not inhibit fruit growth or caused diseased.

  • Innovation means the creation of new value by changing existing things. Dyson's Cyclone vacuum cleaner, a representative innovative product, eliminated the dust filter that had existed in vacuum cleaners for over 100 years. Instead of directly improving the dust filter that reduces suction power, this product was invented by asking the essential question, 'How do we separate dust in the air?' Creative innovation happens when the essence of the problem is properly understood. TRIZ(Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) analyzed numerous invention patents and discovered that innovative results in problem solving appear depending on the existence of contradictions in the problem and how to creatively overcome the contradictions. Based on this, it was systematized into a methodology along with other powerful principles of problem solving. Therefore, TRIZ is a powerful tool for creative and innovative problem solving. However, for creative innovation, it is not easy to properly identify the contradictions in the problem and apply them to solve the problem. However, for creative innovation, it is not easy to properly identify the contradictions in the problem and apply them to solve the problem. In addition, depending on which contradiction is selected, not only the direction of problem solving but also the final solution varies, but researches on this are very lacking. To overcome these difficulties, this study first introduced the concepts of existence contradiction and state contradiction, presented a new problem-solving process, and verified its validity by applying it to toothbrush patent cases. Although there are limitations in applying it to various cases, we hope that the new concept of contradiction presented for the first time in this study and the problem-solving process through it will contribute to producing innovative results.

  • Steel mill gases, including coke oven gas (COG), blast furnace gas (BFG), and Linz-Donawitz gas (LDG), are mainly used as fuels within steel plants, resulting in substantial CO2 emissions. This combustion process accounts for 10% of South Korea's total CO2 emissions. These off-gases, rich in CO, CH4, and hydrogen, have the potential to be converted into valuable chemicals through catalytic processes, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and increasing their economic value. This study investigates the conversion of steel mill gases into methanol, an important platform chemical and cleaner transportation fuel. By using COG and LDG as sources of CO and H2, respectively, a novel process was developed. In this process, H2-rich COG from a simple single-step membrane separation and raw LDG are converted into methanol with high selectivity using a Cu-Zn-Al catalyst. The study identified the optimal gas compositions for methanol production through experimental results, demonstrating efficient methanol synthesis from various compositions of LDG, COG, pure hydrogen, and H2-rich COG. This innovative approach not only aims to reduce specific CO2 emissions from steel plants but also enhances the economic value of the byproduct gases. Thus, the study provides a sustainable and economically advantageous solution for the steel industry.

  • The aims of this study are 1) to test oocytes and embryos collected from in-vitro to achieving the valuable protocol by culturing, vitrifying and thawing of oocytes/embryos, and 2) to transfer them to recipient, and finally have resulted in pregnancies from recipient females after surgical or nonsurgical transfer. In vitro maturation and fertilization were performed according to Funahashi et al (1994). Glucose-free NCSU 23 supplemented with 5 mM sodium pyruvate, 0.5 mM sodium lactate and 4 mg/ml bovine serum albumin for 2 days at $39^{\circ}C$, and 10% fetal bovine serum albumin was added to the culture medium thereafter. Embryos were treated with 7.5 ${\mu}g/ml$ cytochalasin-B for 30 min, centrifuged at 13,000 rpm for 13 min and then exposed sequentially to an ethylene glycol(EG) vitrification solution, aspirated into OPS, and plunged/thawed into/from liquid nitrogen. In vivo embryos were surgically collected from three dornors after AI for control group. Forty-nine embryos were washed 3 times in mPBS + 10% FBS, followed treatments : cultured, centrifuged, vitrified, recovered and transferred to recipients as in vitro prepared embryos. Three recipients were transferred individually with 100, 100 frozen embryos derived from abattoir and 34 fresh embryos by surgically, and another three recipients were transferred individually with 150, 150 frozen embryos and 100 fresh embryos by nonsurgically, respectively. all recipient sows exhibited delayed returns to estrus. To our knowledge, theses results suggest that required an improved techniques, more vigorous embryos preparation and substitute to gilt with cleaner uterous condition.

  • The objective of this study was to explore hygiene issues by analyzing the importance and performance of personal and school hygiene in school foodservices. Questionnaires were administered to 634 students (10 high schools) in the Busan area. Exactly 29% of respondents had received hygiene education. The average score of importance of students' personal foodservice hygiene was 3.81/5.00, and the performance score was 3.48/5.00. The same scores for school foodservice hygiene were 4.37/5.00 and 3.67/5.00, respectively. Regarding importance and performance of personal foodservice hygiene, students who had received hygiene education showed significantly (P<0.01) higher scores than those without prior education. In terms of importance of school foodservice hygiene, students who had received hygiene education showed significantly higher scores for environment hygiene (P<0.05) and equipment hygiene (P<0.05). Additionally, among grid analysis in personal foodservice hygiene, the areas of high importance and low performance included 'washing hands before the meal', 'using a designated cup for the water purifier', and 'keeping clean around the leftover container'. As for school foodservice hygiene, the same area was 'cleanliness of tray'. These findings suggest that hygiene education needs to be extended to more students, and for school foodservice hygiene, a cleaner environment should be created using equipment hygiene management, including emphasis on ensuring cleanliness of tray.

  • This study surveyed on the actual conditions of using sanitizers and disinfectants for improvements of sanitization on food utensils at 105 school and 20 industry foodservice operations. The questionnaire which was administered to 125 foodservices was used as a mail or visitation method. The answers of asking "Perception on temporary authorization system of sanitizers and disinfectants on food utensils" were 75% in contract managed school foodservices, 81.8% in self operated school foodservices, and 50% in industry. Main factors to choose sanitizers were sterilizing power (38.6%, 28.6%, 38.9%) and safety (32.6%, 46.1%, 33.3%) at every foodservices. Keeping ratio of sanitizers and disinfectants guidelines in contract managed school, self operated school and industry foodservices were 64.8%, 52% and 73.7%, respectively. If easy and practical guideline is developed, most foodservices replied to use if for disinfection of foodservices. Most of the foodservices were not only knowing sanitizers and disinfectants but also possessing a guideline. However, they didn't perform disinfection according to the guideline due to its complexity. Consequently, we suggest that it is necessary to provide an easy and practical "sanitizers and disinfectants guideline" and useful information.

  • This study was conducted to explore the feasibility of using the lead level in the hair of children as a screening test for lead intoxication of children and as an indicator for environmental pollution. Lead concentration of hair was measured for 268 seven to nine-year-old elementary school children in Taegu city (147 children) and Gampo town(121 children). The lead level in hair was measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer equipped with a graphite furnace atomizer. The following information was obtained for all children: sex, age, father's occupation and smoking habits, kinds of hair cleaner, fingernail biting habits, and status of the child's hands and clothing. The mean lead level in hair was $8.7{\pm}2.9{\mu}g/g$ in the urban area and $7.7{\pm}2.2{\mu}g/g$ in the rural area. There were significant differences between two groups(p<0.01). The difference of lead levels in hair measured by cleanliness of the child's hands(clean: $7.4{\pm}2.7{\mu}g/g$, dirty: $8.2{\pm}2.6{\mu}g/g$) and child's clothing(clean: $8.0{\pm}2.5{\mu}g/g$, dirty: $9.3{\pm}2.6{\mu}g/g$) were statistically significant, but other factors were not significant. In multiple regression analysis, difference of residency and age were significant variables for lead level in the hair of children. These findings suggest that measurement of lead level in the hair is a useful method for the screening of the lead intoxication of children and monitoring environmental conditions.
