  • Several fine particle-related policies in Northeast United States were investigated in support of the execution of special measures to improve air quality of Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). The definition of particulate matter (PM) in the Clean Air Act (CAA), components and procedures of Regional Haze Rule (RHR), and Air Quality Management (AQM) were reviewed. Several State Implementation Plans (SIPs) were also reviewed as the way to attain required air quality under the Clean Air Act. $PM_{2.5}$ attainment SIP of Maryland, 8-hr Ozone attainment SIP of New Jersey, and Regional Haze Rule attainment SIP of MANE-VU were analyzed in detail as case studies. We realized that "Special Measures for Air Quality Improvement in the Seoul Metropolitan Area" has many similarities with its US counterparts in terms of purpose, components, procedures, and implementation methods. US policies, however, have more advanced features, such as standardized procedures and methods, transparent guidelines, and stable relationship among federal/state/local governments and stakeholders, which would be helpful to improve air quality in SMA.

  • Generally, atmospheric corrosion is the electrochemical degradation of metal that can be caused by various corrosion factors of atmospheric components and weather, as well as air pollutants. Specifically, moisture and particles of sea salt and sulfur dioxide are major factors in atmospheric corrosion. Using galvanized steel is one of the most efficient ways to protect iron from corrosion by zinc plating on the surface of the iron. Galvanized steel is widely used in automobiles, building structures, roofing, and other industrial structures due to their high corrosion resistance relative to iron. The atmospheric corrosion of galvanized steel shows complex corrosion behavior, depending on the plating, coating thickness, atmospheric environment, and air pollutants. In addition, corrosion products are produced in different types of environments. The lifespans of galvanized steels may vary depending on the use environment. Therefore, this study investigated the corrosion behavior of galvannealed steel under atmospheric corrosion in two locations in Korea, and the lifespan prediction of galvannealed steel in rural and coastal environments was conducted by means of the potentiostatic dissolution test and the chemical cyclic corrosion test.

  • These days, it seems to be a core time to build proactive prevention systems for small and medium sized enterprises due to the reinforced safety in the production process and the strong environmental regulations (ES) both at home and abroad. On the other hand, a network of experts that combines the industrial environment and production safety as well as even the knowledge services companies are not quite enough to prepare to support them. In this study, through a survey of experts the current statue of the convergence of industrial environment and production safety were reviewed, and the structure of knowledge ES cluster was proposed to overcome this current state. Detailed strategies such as the development and distribution of ES convergence methodology, ES efficiency analysis and an ES roundtable.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze, design and evaluate a new gas cleanup or sampling system that will remove erosive, corrosive, and fouling contaminants present in an effluent stream as either solid or liquid particles providing a clean gas stream. The gas clean-up or sampling system considered in this study is an irrigated, rotating element device. The device consists of a central disk-like hub from which emanate radially wires or cylindrical elements. (omitted)

  • Visitors to Naejangsan National Park were surveyed from October 31 to November 3 in 1995, 151 visitors were participated. Of those individuals, 55% were males. 48% of respondests reported that they had gone beyond high school, and over one-half(52%) had gone as far as college. 61.3% were 20 years of age. The largest percentage of respondents were reported that they visited Naejangsan Nat'l Park to see the scarlet maple leaces there. Most respondents who witness other visitors' littering were not likely to intervene to stop their visitors' depreciative behavior(Bystander intervention Begavior). Most of visitors got information for use Naejangsan Nat'l Park from a guide sign(31.8%) or guide themselves(29.1%). They didn't know the Clean-up Time Movement Program. But they understood it after notice hanging placards(81.6%). Most of visitors responded that didn't hear the mass communication program in National. But they recognized necessity of the mass communication program in National Park. The results showed that most visitors believed that Clean-up Time Movement was in succession consequently it turned out to be effective in managing visitors' littering behavior. And it seemed to effective in managing depreciative behavior through the mass communication program in National Park.
