Managerial Plan of Extended Operation of the Clean-Road System for the Improvement of the Urban Thermal Environment in Daegu (도시열환경개선을 위한 대구 클린 로드 시스템의 확대 운영방안에 관한 연구)

  • From December 2014 to November 2015, an automatic weather system (AWS) was installed over a wide road of Daegu to continuously measure meteorological factors and surface temperature. We investigated the effective operating period of the clean-road system using the daily maximum and minimum air and asphalt surface temperatures, with the aim of creating an optimum thermal environment. The clean-road system was installed over a part of the broad way of Dalgubul(Dalgubul-Daero) by Daegu Metropolitan City in 2011. Until now, the clean-road system has been operated from the middle of April to the end of September. We assumed that it was desirable that the clean-road system could be operated when the discomfort index was above 55. In conformity with the conditions, we concluded that the optimum operation period of the clean-road system is from the end of March to about the middle of October.

  • The JAXA's TechCLEAN project(2003-present) is summarized, with the interim technical achievements. TechCLEAN is collateral program with the NEDO engine project to accelerate R&D work of small passenger aircraft engine as well as to develop innovative environment technologies applicable to the future improvements. In the project NOx reduction, CO2 reduction and noise reduction are targeted. Component level researches and system demonstrator validation are planned with test facility renovation and demonstration base engines.

Observational Study to Investigate Thermal Environment and Effect of Clean- Road System over a Broad Way of Daegu in Summer (대구의 여름철 도로 열 환경과 클린로드 시스템의 효과 조사를 위한 관측연구)

  • To investigate thermal environment and effect of clean-road system over a broad way, we conducted the filed meteorological observation during 12~13 August 2014. The clean-road system was employed over a part of the broad way of Dalgubul(Dalgubul-Daero) by Daegu Metropolitan city in 2011. The clean-road system in general is operated two times(4 am, 2 pm) during summertime. In case of scorching alert, the system is operated 3 times a day(4 am, 2 pm and 4 pm). To evaluate the present thermal condition and the improvement effects due to the system, we analyzed the time variation of discomfort index and WBGT(wet-bulb and globe temperature). WBGT was more than 25 during 8 a.m. ~ 9 p.m. And discomfort index was more than 75 during 8 a.m. ~ 11 p.m. The thermal improvement effect of the clean-road system was restrictive during daytime.

  • CuFeOx/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts are developed for the use in sulfuric acid decomposition which is a subcycle in thermochemical iodine-sulfur cycle to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Both Cu and Fe components are co-precipitated with Al component to enhance distribution of active components. Developed catalysts are improved in the capability of sulfuric acid decomposition and endurance under highly acidic environment compared to commercial catalysts such as Pt/$Al_2O_3$ and $2CuO{\cdot}Cr_2O_3$. Developed CuFeAlOx catalysts exhibited higher sulfuric acid decomposition ability than $2CuO{\cdot}Cr_2O_3$ and longer endurance trends than Pt/$Al_2O_3$ maintaining comparable performance, respectively.

Evaluation on the Effect of Air Quality Improvement Due to the Employment of Clean-Road System in Daegu (대구의 클린로드 시스템 운영에 따른 대기 질 개선효과 평가)

  • To improve air quality around a broad way, Daegu Metropolitan city employed the clean-road system at a part of the broad way of Dalgubul (Daigubul-daero) in 2011. The clean-road system in general is operated two times (4 am, 2 pm) during summertime. In case of scorching alert, the system is operated 3 times a day (4 am, 2 pm and 4 pm). To evaluate the effect of air quality improvement due to the system, we analyzed the time variation of monthly mean particulate matter (PM10) concentration in recent 3 years (2011-2013). The improvement of air quality was estimated at about 5~15 % under the system.

  • This study proposed the optimum design values for the biological clean room system observing the regulations of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). Even though the standard for industrial clean room system has been well established, the basis for biological food clean room system is the first stage. In order to prevent the contaminations in advance for food storages, processes, and distributions, the criterion of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point is positively required. This study also suggested the possible ways of how to avoid the hazardous contaminations.

  • In order to keep the school's environment safe and clean, it needs to have a regular control system. There are limits to the student's abilities on keeping the school safe and clean, therefore cleaning professionals and specialized companies are needed as well. In case of financial program, principals or chief administrations are in charge of school building's environmental management. And it might cause poor efficiency and imbalance of distributing works on business in their charge and there are limits to keep the school's environment. This paper prepares alternatives of effective school building managements to solve these problems.

  • Railroad has been one of major public transportations with the advantages of safety and schedule accuracy. However, the sustainable development will be the first principle in order to save the earth environment in the future, and the only transportation that satisfies it can continuously survive. Transportation has caused air pollution severely. Thus, the most environment-friendly means of transport should be chosen to maintain clean environment in the 21st century. Railroad is currently the best choice to fulfill the mission. But, the overall railroad technologies should be developed in consideration of clean environment to be a future leading transportation.
