A numerical model that can simulate the nonlinear behavior of ultra high strength fiber-reinforced concrete (UHSFRC) structures subject to monotonic loadings is introduced. Since engineering material properties of UHSFRC are remarkably different from those of normal strength concrete and engineered cementitious composite, classification of the mechanical characteristics related to the biaxial behavior of UHSFRC, from the designation of the basic material properties such as the uniaxial stress-strain relationship of UHSFRC to consideration of the bond stress-slip between the reinforcement and surrounding concrete with fiber, is conducted in this paper in order to make possible accurate simulation of the cracking behavior in UHSFRC structures. Based on the concept of the equivalent uniaxial strain, constitutive relationships of UHSFRC are presented in the axes of orthotropy which coincide with the principal axes of the total strain and rotate according to the loading history. This paper introduces a criterion to simulate the tension-stiffening effect on the basis of the force equilibriums, compatibility conditions, and bond stress-slip relationship in an idealized axial member and its efficiency is validated by comparison with available experimental data. Finally, the applicability of the proposed numerical model is established through correlation studies between analytical and experimental results for idealized UHSFRC beams.
Purpose: This study was designed to adapt a surgical wound care algorithm that is used to provide evidence-based surgical wound care in a critical care unit. Methods: This study used, the 'ADAPTE process', an international clinical practice guideline development method. The -'Bonnie Sue wound care algorithm' - was used as a draft for the new algorithm. A content validity index (CVI) targeting 135 critical care nurses was conducted. A 5-point Likert scale was applied to the CVI test using a statistical criterion of .75. Results: A surgical wound care algorithm comprised 9 components: wound assessment, infection control, necrotic tissue management, wound classification by exudates and depths, dressing selection, consideration of systemic factors, wound expected outcome, reevaluate non-healing wounds, and special treatment for non-healing wounds. All of the CVI tests were ${\leq}$.75. Compared to existing wound care guidelines, the new wound care algorithm provides precise wound assessment, reliabilities of wound care, expands applicability of wound care to critically ill patients, and provides evidence and strength of recommendations. Conclusion: The new surgical wound care algorithm will contribute to the advancement of evidence-based nursing care, and its use is expected as a nursing intervention in critical care.

Head up display’s cooling system is auto-diagnosed resulting from the external environment. The quantity of heat depending on this Head up display’s cooling system layout determines the speed of FAN for system cooling. In other words, a system’s heat quantity is planned through the air density depending on altitude, the amount of wind in air depending on FAN control condition, and the algorithm that is proportional to delta temperature. To detect the altitude, we use the criteria of delta T, which is determined by the subtracted value of LED junction temperature, and atmospheric temperature that is recorded on the Head up display system. Depending on the classification of delta T value, the altitude section is determined. While we can use GPS as the tool to detect the altitude, we should predict the change of the air density as the altitude alters, and should not just measure the altitude. And the value of delta T is used as the criterion of detecting the altitude for increasing the cooling efficiency of the car’s inner Head up display system with reflecting the speed of the FAN dependent upon the air density. In our theory, altitude is depending on the value of delta T and stabilizing or maintaining the system’s temperature by changing FAN’s rpm depending on determined value of altitude.
We propose a novel method to precisely detect car license plates by locating main characters, which are printed with large font size. The regions of the main characters are directly detected without detecting the plate region boundaries, so that license regions can be detected more precisely than by other existing methods. To generate a binary image, multiple thresholds are applied, and segmented regions are selected from multiple binarized images by a criterion of size and compactness. We do not employ any character matching methods, so that many candidates for main character groups are detected; thus, we use a neural network to reject non-main character groups from the candidates. The relation of the character regions and the intensity statistics are used as the input to the neural network for classification. The detection performance has been investigated on real images captured under various illumination conditions for 1000 vehicles. 980 plates were correctly detected, and almost all non-detected plates were so stained that their characters could not be isolated for character recognition. In addition, the processing time is fast enough for a commercial automatic license plate recognition system. Therefore, the proposed method can be used for recognition systems with high performance and fast processing.

The two-stage linear discrimination analysis (TSLDA) is a feature extraction technique to solve the small size sample problem in the field of image recognition. The TSLDA has retained all subspace information of the between-class scatter and within-class scatter. However, the feature information in the four subspaces may not be entirely beneficial for classification, and the regularization procedure for eliminating singular metrics in TSLDA has higher time complexity. In order to address these drawbacks, this paper proposes an improved two-stage linear discriminant analysis (Improved TSLDA). The Improved TSLDA proposes a selection and compression method to extract superior feature information from the four subspaces to constitute optimal projection space, where it defines a single Fisher criterion to measure the importance of single feature vector. Meanwhile, Improved TSLDA also applies an approximation matrix method to eliminate the singular matrices and reduce its time complexity. This paper presents comparative experiments on five face databases and one handwritten digit database to validate the effectiveness of the Improved TSLDA.
In a large number of literature on of inspection tasks, one of the most consistent findings is the existence of large and consistent differences among inspectors. It is possible that the individual difference is described by the difference of cognitive skills, because cognitive skills are required more than manual skills in inspection tasks. Therefore, a set of cognitive factors in human information processing may underly human performance in inspection tasks. In this study, a cognitive skill was described as the relative importance of the cognitive factors involved. A hierarchical task analysis and a fuzzy hierarchical analysis were used to represent how the importance of cognitive factors contribute to inspection performance. An experiment was conducted using the computer simulations of PCB inspection tasks. The results revealed that the subject group with better performance showed the importance weights of cognitive factors in the following rank; (attention, perception, judgement, classification, recognition)<(detection)$\ll$(memory). The results of the experiment can serve as a selection criterion for efficient inspection performance and the information of skilled learning for an inspection training program. The usefullness of a hierarchical task analysis and a fuzzy hierarchical task analysis for the analysis of cognitive tasks are also confirmed.

The model in our approach assumes that computer responses are a realization of a Gaussian processes superimposed on a regression model called a Gaussian process regression model (GPRM). Selecting a subset of variables or building a good reduced model in classical regression is an important process to identify variables influential to responses and for further analysis such as prediction or classification. One reason to select some variables in the prediction aspect is to prevent the over-fitting or under-fitting to data. The same reasoning and approach can be applicable to GPRM. However, only a few works on the variable selection in GPRM were done. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to build a good prediction model among some GPRMs. It is a post-work of the algorithm that includes the Welch method suggested by previous researchers. The proposed algorithms select some non-zero regression coefficients (${\beta}^{\prime}s$) using forward and backward methods along with the Lasso guided approach. During this process, the fixed were covariance parameters (${\theta}^{\prime}s$) that were pre-selected by the Welch algorithm. We illustrated the superiority of our proposed models over the Welch method and non-selection models using four test functions and one real data example. Future extensions are also discussed.

Partial fragments of nuclear 185 rDNAs from morphologically wide and narrow thalli of the seaweed Porphyra pseudolineazis were amplified and sequenced to compare their DNA homology. Both sequences of 311 base pairs showed $100{\%}$ identical each other. They showed $97.7{\%}$ similarity with a wild strain collected at Sodol in Kangwondo, and $99.4{\%}$ similarity with the GenBank accession number AB013185 of the Japanese P. pseudolinearis. Thus the morphological difference of wide and narrow blades might not be a classification criterion for the sub-species level of P. pseudolinearis.

This study describes the merits of PWM control of hydraulic system using high speed on-off valves. Generally, Electro-hydraulic valves can be classified into two classification: valves which are controlled by analog signal and which are controlled by digital. The former includes hydraulic servo valves and proportional valves which require A/D converters as interface to digital computer and too costly and sensitive to oil contamination because of complexity in structures. The latter includes high speed on-off valves which do not require A/D converters because they are normally operated in a pulse width modulation(PWM) method, and are low in price and robust to oil contamination because of their simple structures. The objectives of this study is to analyze the limit cycle which regularly appear in the position control system using 2/2way high speed on-off valves and to give a criterion for the stability of this system. The nonlinear characteristics of PWM and cylinder friction of this system are described by harmonic linearization and the effects of parameter variations to the system stability are simulated.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to present fundamental information regarding clinical prognosis and clinical criteria for therapeutic intervention in stroke patients with focal pons infarction. Methods: Four stroke patients (male: 2, female: 2) who were diagnosed with pons infarction were recruited. All subjects had motor functions evaluated using methods such as the Motricity Index (MI), the Modified Brunnstrom Classification (MBC), Functional Ambulatory Category (FAC), and the Bathel Index (BI). Evaluations were done at least 4 times over a period that was approximately 8~11 months from stroke onset. We compared the final evaluation with the first evaluation. Results: All patients with focal pons infarction showed improvement with time in motor function. The physical strength of all patients was improved to normal or good grades from zero or trace grades in the Motricity Index test. Also, other motor functions such as ambulatory capacity and activities of daily living (ADL) improved with time. Conclusion: Aspects of functional recovery and clinical prognosis are clearly predictable for specific patients with focal pons infarction. In addition, adequate therapeutic interventions can be provided clinical criterion to patients, according to aspect of functional recovery. Accordingly, patients with pons infarction change for the better over time.
