Gene expression data is obtained through many stages of an experiment and errors produced during the process may cause missing values. Due to the distinctness of the data so called 'small n large p', genes have to be selected for statistical analysis, like classification analysis. For this reason, imputation and gene selection are important in a microarray data analysis. In the literature, imputation, gene selection and classification analysis have been studied respectively. However, imputation, gene selection and classification analysis are sequential processing. For this aspect, we compare the performance of classification methods after imputation and gene selection methods are applied to microarray data. Numerical simulations are carried out to evaluate the classification methods that use various combinations of the imputation and gene selection methods.
In this study, we perform a statistical investigation on the kinematic classication of 4264 coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from 1996 to 2015 observed by SOHO/LASCO C3. Using the constant acceleration model, we classify these CMEs into three groups; deceleration, constant velocity, and acceleration motion. For this, we devise four dierent classication methods by acceleration, fractional speed variation, height contribution, and visual inspection. Our major results are as follows. First, the fractions of three groups depend on the method used. Second, about half of the events belong to the groups of acceleration and deceleration. Third, the fractions of three motion groups as a function of CME speed classied by the last three methods are consistent with one another. Fourth, according to the last three methods, the fraction of acceleration motion decreases as CME speed increases, while the fractions of other motions increase with speed. In addition, the acceleration motions are dominant in low speed CMEs whereas the constant velocity motions are dominant in high speed CMEs.

Support vector classification (SVC) provides more complete description of the lin-ear and nonlinear relationships between input vectors and classifiers. In this paper. we propose the sparse kernel classifier to solve the optimization problem of classification with a modified hinge loss function and absolute loss function, which provides the efficient computation and the sparsity. We also introduce the generalized cross validation function to select the hyper-parameters which affects the classification performance of the proposed method. Experimental results are then presented which illustrate the performance of the proposed procedure for classification.

In many practical machine learning and data mining applications, unlabeled training examples are readily available but labeled ones are fairly expensive to obtain. Therefore semi-supervised learning algorithms have attracted much attentions. However, previous research mainly focuses on classication problems. In this paper, a semi-supervised regression method based on support vector regression (SVR) formulation that is proposed. The estimator is easily obtained via the dual formulation of the optimization problem. The experimental results with simulated and real data suggest superior performance of the our proposed method compared with standard SVR.

Recently, several promising multiobjective evolutionary algorithms, e,g, SPEA, NSGA-ll, PESA, and SPEA2, have been developed. In this paper, we also propose a new multiobjective evolutionary algorithm that compares to them. In the algorithm proposed in this paper, we introduce a novel concept, "inherited age" and total algorithm is executed based on the inherited age concept. Also, we propose a new sharing algorithm, called objective classication sharing algorithm(OCSA) that can preserve the diversity of the population. We will show the superior performance of the proposed algorithm by comparing the proposed algorithm with other promising algorithms for the test functions.

Unlabeled examples are easier and less expensive to obtain than labeled examples. Semisupervised approaches are used to utilize such examples in an eort to boost the predictive performance. This paper proposes a novel semisupervised classication method named transductive least squares support vector machine (TLS-SVM), which is based on the least squares support vector machine. The proposed method utilizes the dierence convex algorithm to derive nonconvex minimization solutions for the TLS-SVM. A generalized cross validation method is also developed to choose the hyperparameters that aect the performance of the TLS-SVM. The experimental results conrm the successful performance of the proposed TLS-SVM.

In order to design the automatic processing system of image document, the pattern segmentation of image document and classification methods are presented. The contour extraction using first order differential operator of Gauassian distribution fucntions, the image segmentation using the chain code, and the pattern classication using the second order moments and two=dimensional Rf distance(in transform domain) are implemented. The resuts applied in specially documantated image shows to classify the characters, fingerprints, seals etc well. And the utility of the used algorithms is verified.

Land cover classification is an important tool for preventing natural disasters, collecting environmental information, and monitoring natural resources. Hyperspectral imaging is widely used for this task thanks to sufficient spectral information. However, the curse of dimensionality, spatiotemporal variability, and lack of labeled data make it difficult to classify the land cover correctly. We propose a novel classification framework for land cover classification of hyperspectral data based on convolutional neural networks. The proposed framework naturally incorporates full spectral features with the information from neighboring pixels and has advantages over existing methods that require additional feature extraction or pre-processing steps. Empirical evaluation results show that the proposed framework provides good generalization power with classification accuracies better than (or comparable to) the most advanced existing classifiers.
The hierarchically penalized support vector machine (H-SVM) has been developed to perform simultaneous classification and input variable selection when input variables are naturally grouped or generated by factors. However, the H-SVM may suffer from estimation inefficiency because it applies the same amount of shrinkage to each variable without assessing its relative importance. In addition, when analyzing imbalanced data with uneven class sizes, the classification accuracy of the H-SVM may drop significantly in predicting minority class because its classifiers are undesirably biased toward the majority class. To remedy such problems, we propose the weighted adaptive H-SVM (WAH-SVM) method, which uses a adaptive tuning parameters to improve the performance of variable selection and the weights to differentiate the misclassification of data points between classes. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the competitive performance of the proposed WAH-SVM over existing SVM methods.
