A substructure formulation for the earthquake -induced nonlinear structural pounding problem

  • Earthquake-induced pounding is one of the major reasons for structural failure in earthquake prone cities. An accurate description of the pounding phenomenon of two buildings requires the consideration of systems with a large number of degrees of freedom including adequate contact impact formulations. In this paper, firstly, a node to surface formulation for the realization of state-of-the-art pounding models for structural beam elements is presented. Secondly, a hierarchical substructure technique is introduced, which is adapted to the structural pounding problem. The numerical accuracy and efficiency of the method, especially for the contact forces, are verified on an academic example, applying four different impact elements. Error estimations are carried out and compared with the classical modal truncation method. It is demonstrated that the hierarchical substructure method is indeed able to significantly speed up the numeric integration procedure by preserving a required level of accuracy.

Effect of exercise on the stability of protein tissues

  • This study investigates the stability of protein tissues regarding the vibration analysis based on the classical beam theory coupled with the nonlocal elasticity theory concerning the exercise impact. As reported in the previous research, four different types of protein tissues are supposed, and the influence of sports training is investigated. The protein tissues are made of protein fibers surrounded by an elastic foundation. The exercise enhances the muscle area and plays an essential role in the stability and strength of protein and muscle tissues. The results are examined in detail to examine the impact of different parameters on the stability of nano protein fibers.

장 미쉘 빌모트의 전시공간에 나타난 실내디자인 표현특성 (Expressional Characteristics of Interior Design Presented in Exhibition Spaces of Jean-Michel Wilmotte)

  • Today, the growing number of international architects enters the open market of South Korean architecture and interior from exhibition spaces such as art galleries to buildings of major companies. Establishing new local landmarks, their works have a considerable influence on the development of architecture. Among many, French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte has worked consistently in South Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyze and put together the expression characteristic of the interior design in his exhibition spaces including Gana Art Gallery. Jean-Michel Wilmotte has designed based on the history, culture, society, and arts in France and other European countries, and is influenced by architects like Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Josef Hoffmann, and Carlo Scarpa. Such an influence is shown in the form of contrast between verticality and horizontality as well as the fortification in his modern classical characteristic, which is one of his expression characters. In his work of improving the ancient architecture, Wilmotte is good at creating a modern space through contextual expression, and the textural contrast between materials of the past and the present. Thus I performed an analysis of the expression characteristic of the interior design in National Museum of Contemporary Art of Chiado in Lisbon, Cognac Hennessy Museum in France, Gana Art Gallery in Korea, Mus$\acute{e}$e du Pr$\acute{e}$sident Jacques Chirac in Sarran, France, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) in Beijing, and lastly Mus$\acute{e}$e d'Orsay in Paris. The results show that he maintains the spatial context by applying contemporary design to the preserved existing structure, continues the flow of exhibition through the lightings in the corridors and on the ceiling, and seeks for a balance by adding vertical or horizontal elements to the elevation. In the interior, the staircase and exhibition structure are turned into objects, and the contrasting texture of the wall vitalizes the space. Wilmotte redesigns the space of the past and the present by using indirect joint that allows an organic connection of the old and new structures, and by minimizing the conflict between the two elements through prefabrication. The expression character of his interior design will be potential resources for architects and interior designers to develop their own design languages.

A comparative study of low-complexity MMSE signal detection for massive MIMO systems

  • For uplink multi-user massive MIMO systems, conventional minimum mean square error (MMSE) linear detection method achieves near-optimal performance when the number of antennas at base station is much larger than that of the single-antenna users. However, MMSE detection involves complicated matrix inversion, thus making it cumbersome to be implemented cost-effectively and rapidly. In this paper, we first summarize in detail the state-of-the-art simplified MMSE detection algorithms that circumvent the complicated matrix inversion and hence reduce the computation complexity from ${\mathcal{O}}(K^3)$ to ${\mathcal{O}}(K^2)$ or ${\mathcal{O}}(NK)$ with some certain performance sacrifice. Meanwhile, we divide the simplified algorithms into two categories, namely the matrix inversion approximation and the classical iterative linear equation solving methods, and make comparisons between them in terms of detection performance and computation complexity. In order to further optimize the detection performance of the existing detection algorithms, we propose more proper solutions to set the initial values and relaxation parameters, and present a new way of reconstructing the exact effective noise variance to accelerate the convergence speed. Analysis and simulation results verify that with the help of proper initial values and parameters, the simplified matrix inversion based detection algorithms can achieve detection performance quite close to that of the ideal matrix inversion based MMSE algorithm with only a small number of series expansions or iterations.

  • 아름다움을 향한 미적 규칙과 질서들 가운데에서도 특히, 고전적인 비례인 황금분할비례는 현재에도 유효한 것인가\ulcorner 또한 현대산업화 과정 속에서 나타나는 기능적인 ${\surd}$직사각형 비례가 이전의 아름다움을 대체할 수 있는 것인가\ulcorner 가 본 연구의 중심이다. 디자인 전공대학생 200명을 대상으로 1차 현대적 비례인 ${\surd}$직사각형의 기본등비수열들의 비교조사와 2차 ${\surd}$직사각형과 황금분할비례의 선호비례조사 등 2차에 걸쳐 전개된 설문의 결과는 ${\surd}$직사각형들의 비례에서 1 : 1.414의 ${\surd}$2직사각형 가로비례에 가장 높은 선호도를 나타내고 있으며 황금분할비례와 대비한 선호도에서는 황금분할비례가 약간 우수한 선호율을 나타냄으로서 경제적 효율성을 갖는 기능적인 비례인 ${\surd}$2직사각형 가로비례가 고전적 미적 기준인 황금분할비례를 대체하지 못하고 있음을 확인하였다.

오페라 "파우스트"의 무대의상 디자인 - 군중들을 중심으로 - (A Study on The Stage Costume Design of Opera $\lceil$Faust$\rfloor$ - Focused on The Crowd -)

  • Modernization movement has affected classical operas. Today, classical operas are often re-interpreted from the modern perspective and played differently only with the storyline maintained. Also, operas are increasingly performed outside traditional theaters as the boundaries between stage and audience become less obvious. Accordingly, stage costumes are being differently designed than before. New attempts are being made to look costumes in a harmony with increasingly streamlined stage machinery. This helps increase public attention on operas, consequently promoting the opera industry. This study examines modernization of opera costumes. For this study, the author worked as one of costume design staff for "Faust," which was played in Sungnam Art Center from November 24, 2005 to November 27, 2005 in commemoration of the opening of the center. The following outcomes of the crowd are drawn from this study. A variety of splendid pink dresses, ribbons, dolls, hand mirror, and hair bands were used to express haughty girls with "Princess Syndrome." Fashion models, the envy of all woman, wore fashionable clothes including luxury dresses, fur-coats, high heels, purses, and hats, Models also had big shopping bags and gift boxes to symbolize shopping lovers in a modern society. Gay men wore tight leather trousers and vest and sleeves shirts with deeply cut neckline to express their preference for feminie style. their clothes were splendid colors that normally women liked such as gold, purple, light green, scarlet, and silver. Soldiers were in combat uniform representing their participation in the war. In particular, clothes stained with dirt, iron helmet, crutches, and canteens were used to vividly express soldiers coming back home from the war. Modern opera costumes now help reduce the time and space between stage and audience, improve economic efficiency, and meet the audience's needs for various style.

현대(現代)의 독자(讀者)와 과거(過去)의 문학(文學) (The Modern Reader and The Past Literature)

  • It is not a simple topic how let the modern readers read the past literature in the these days of digital. But even though the changes of the times, we must not let 'the paper-books(the thing written with letters)' disappear because of 'the audio-visual texts(the thing made with digital media as drama-opera, animated cartoon, animated image)'. The Electronic medias should be used so as helping for us to understand contents of the paper-books. Because of them, the paper-books must not be expelled. It is no need certainly for the reading materials to be made with Paper-books. For example, the electronic-books in order to read also would not become problems. Moreover, the electronic-books to be made with various electronic media can also provide the audio-visual materials for readers well to understand contents of the books. For that reason, the electronic-books would be helped to read effectively. Besides after reading the original texts, the readers to try the 'rewriting', with using the meanings for oneself to get from the texts would be able to make a synopsis or story-telling for other art performances. These works are things positively to be stimulated, because of giving the achievement motivations to the readers. To conclude, the audio-texts reading and the visual-texts reading should be developed so that the paper-books to be revitalize. And though the modern readers dislike to read the paper-books, We should try to make the audio-visual texts base on the paper-books. Therefore the paper-books and audio-visual texts are inter-complementary relationships, not competitive relationships.

그래핀 기반 3단자 NEMS 스위칭 소자 설계 및 동작 시뮬레이션 연구 (Design and Simulation Study on Three-terminal Graphene-based NEMS Switching Device)

  • 본 논문에서는 그래핀의 우수한 전기적 기계적 특성을 이용하여 정전기 인력에 의하여 휘어지는 그래핀이 수직 팁 게이트에 접촉 여부에 따라서 스위칭이 이루어지도록 조절할 수 있는 3단자 그래핀 NEMS 스위칭 소자에 대하여 연구하였다. 전형적인 MEMS 제작 공정을 이용하여 3단가 그래핀 NEMS 스위칭 소자 제작을 위한 공정을 설계하였고, 그 동작의 핵심 역학은 그래핀에 작용하는 정전기력과 그래핀 자체의 탄성력에 의하여 스우칭의 기계적인 동작이 설명될 수 있었다. 전기적인 동작에서는 그래핀과 핀 전극 사이의 접촉에 의한 접촉 전류와 그래핀이 전극에 접촉하지 않았음에도 그래핀과 핀 전극 사이의 강한 전기장으로 인한 방출전류가 흐를 수 있을 것으로 예상되었다. 실제 기계적인 동작에서 원자단위에서의 움직임을 분석하기 위하여 분자동력학 시뮬레이션 방법을 사용하여 수직 팁 게이트를 가지는 그래핀 기반 3단자 NEMS 스위치 동작에 관하여 연구하여, 기계적인 동작에 따라서 발생되는 다양한 현상들을 분자동력학 시뮬레이션을 통하여 연구함으로써 원자단위에서 이루어지는 다양한 역학들을 살펴보았다.

<온달설화>의 서사적 구조를 활용한 결혼이주여성을 위한 문학치료 방안 탐색 (Exploration of literary treatment for married immigrant women using the narrative structure of )

  • 본 연구는 <온달설화>를 활용하여 국내 결혼이주여성의 건강한 정체성 확립을 위한 문학치료적 접근을 시도했다. 연구에서는 국제결혼 이주여성들의 한국문화 적응과정에서 건강한 정체성형성의 어려움에 대하여 제시하고 온달설화의 서사적 구조를 활용한 문학치료적 대안을 제시하였다. 연구에서는 검증된 서사인 고전문학을 활용하여 결혼이주여성들의 건강한 자기서사를 이끌어 낼 수 있게 도와주며 나아가 건강한 정체성 재확립에 대한 가능성을 그들의 인간관계를 중심으로 구성하였다. 연구에서는 자기서사를 통하여 건강한 정체성 확립을 위한 문학치료적 대안을 마련함으로써 그들이 행복한 삶을 주체적으로 꾸려나갈 수 있다는 자신감을 줄 수 있을 것이라고 판단하였다. 이 연구를 통하여 결혼이주여성을 건강한 정체성 확립을 위한 프로그램구성에서 고전문학을 활용하여 그들의 한국문화 이해 그리고 한국어능력 향상까지 기대효과를 걸 수 있다는 것이 긍정적인 부분으로 부각시킬 수 있었다.

풀러렌 셔틀 소자로 그래핀 나노리본 트렌치 응용에 관한 분자동력학 시뮬레이션 연구 (Application of Graphene Nanoribbon Trench for C60 Fullerene Shuttle Device: Molecular Dynamics Simulations)

  • 최근 그래핀을 이용한 나노전자소자에 대한 많은 연구들이 다양한 분야에서 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 분자동력학 시뮬레이션 방법을 사용하여 그래핀 나노리본 트렌치 구조를 이용한 풀러렌 분자 셔틀 소자로의 활용 가능성에 대하여 연구하였다. 그래핀 나노리본 트렌치 구조는 그 나노미터 규모의 분자 저장이 가능한 공간을 만들 수 있어, 이 공간을 활용하여 나노전기전자소자를 제작할 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다. 그래핀 나노리본 트렌치로 흡수된 풀러렌 분자는 외부 작용력의 방향에 따라서 그 위치를 그래핀 나노리본 트렌치 내부에서 조정할 수 있게 되기 때문에, 이를 이용하여 그래핀 나노리본 트랜체 내부에서 플러렌의 위치 조정으로 디지털 정보를 저장할 수 있다. 풀러렌 분자가 그래핀 나노리본 트렌치 내부에서 고랑을 따라서 이동과정에서 다양한 운동에너지 역학이 작용되는 것을 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서는 그래핀 나노리본 트렌치에 흡수된 풀러렌 분자는 나노전지전자소자의 오실레이터, 정보저장소자, 센서 등 다양한 첨단 분야에서 활용가능하다는 것을 연구하였다.
