  • Single-ring circular array antennas can be applied to direction finding systems in order to use nose-section in other purposes, and the interferometry is a proper direction finding method to those systems. We usually make the interferometer baseline long enough to achieve good angular accuracy. However, an interferometer with baseline longer than a half-wavelength has the ambiguity problem. In this paper, we present a novel method for solving the ambiguity problem in interferometry systems. This technique is based on the amplitude comparison method and the space division table, and it can place a target within the angular region in which the ambiguity problem does not occur by roughly estimating direction-of-arrival. The Monte Carlo simulation results show that proposed method can effectively remove the ambiguity problem in the system.

  • Swirling flows are related to the spiral motion in the tangential direction in addition to the axial and radial direction using several swirl generators. These type of flows are used in combustion chambers to improve flame stability, heat exchanger to enhance heat transfer coefficients, agricultural spraying machines and some vertical pipes to move slurries or transport of materials. However, only a few studies three dimensional velocity profiles in a vertical pipe have been reported. In this present paper, 3 dimension particle image velocimetry(PIV) technique was employed to measure the velocity profiles in water along a vertical circular pipe with Reynolds number from 6000 to 13,000. A tangential inlet condition was used as the swirl generator to produce the required flow. The velocities were measured with swirling flow in the water along the test section using the PIV technique.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an analytic model which can describe the behavior or concrete compressive member strengthened by CFS(Carbon Fiber Sheet) with various cross-sectional shapes such as circular. square, and octagonal and various laminate angles. The failure criterion of laminated CFS is based on Tsai-Wu failure criterion. The stress strain model of confined concrete compressive member is based on an equation proposed by Mander. The effective lateral confining pressure is considered and modified according to various cross-sectional shapes. Octagonal cross-section shows the best results in the aspect of ductility, while circular does in compressive strengthening effects. In addition, [0/0/0/0] laminate in which the direction of fiber is parallel to the direction of principal stress shows the superior strength and ductility than other laminates. The analytic results show that strength and ductility of the analytic model depend on the cross-sectional shapes as well as the laminate angles.

  • The study suggests a method to analyze the vibration of the multi-stepped beam having the different circular cross-sections. The rotatory inertia, the shear deformation and the torque applied at both ends of the beam are considered in the governing equation. The complex displacement and the variable separation are introduced to derive the solution of the equation of each uniform beam element having constant cross-section. Then boundary conditions are applied to solve the total system. This method uses the mathematically exact solutions unlike numerical method such as the finite element method in solving the problem having the simultaneous differential equations of Timoshenko beam theory. the natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes are precise, especially the mode shapes are continuous.

  • In this study, effect of horizontal in situ stress on failure mechanism around underground openings excavated in isotropic, elastic rock zones is investigated. For estimating the plastic zone occurrence, an induced stress influence area approach (Bray Equations) was modified to define critical stress ratio according to the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. Results obtained from modified calculations were compared with results of some other analytical solutions for plastic zone thickness estimation and the numerical modelling (finite difference method software, FLAC2D) study. Plastic zone and its geometry around tunnels were analyzed for different in situ stress conditions. The modified equations gave similar results with those obtained from the other approaches. However, safer results were calculated using the modified equations for high in situ stress conditions and excessive ratio of horizontal to vertical in situ stresses. As the outcome of this study, the modified equations are suggested to use for estimating the plastic zone occurrence and its thickness around the tunnels with circular cross-section.

  • Concrete filled steel tube (CFST) structures have recently seen wide use in China, but studies of the shear problem of CFST are inadequate. This paper presents an experimental study on the shear capacity of circular concrete filled steel tube (CCFT) specimens with and without axial compression force. Shear capacity, ductility, and damage modes of CCFTs were investigated and compared. Test results revealed the following: 1) CCFTs with a small shear span ratio may fail in shear in a ductile manner; 2) Several factors including section size, material properties, shear span ratio, axial compression ratio, and confinement index affect the shear capacity of CCFTs. Based on test results and analysis, this paper proposes a design formula for the shear capacity of CCFTs.

  • The basis number of a graph G is the least positive integer $k$ such that G has a $k$-fold basis. In this paper, we prove that the basis number of the cartesian product of a path with a circular ladder, a M$\ddot{o}$bius ladder and path with a net is exactly 3. This improves the upper bound of the basis number of these graphs for a general theorem on the cartesian product of graphs obtained by Ali and Marougi, see [2]. Also, by this general result, the cartesian product of a theta graph with a M$\ddot{o}$bius ladder is at most 5. But in section 3 we prove that it is at most 4.

  • This present experimental study has dealt with the heat transfer characteristics of plastic particle slurry which flows in a circular tube. This type of slurry is suggested for heat transfer enhancement effect cause by random and vortex effect of plastic particle dispersed in water. As a result, the thermal boundary layer becomes thin so the heat transfer coefficient on the tube wall more increase compare to pure water flow. This experimental test section was composed with stainless pipe which has the length of 2000mm, inner pipe diameter of 14mm and outer pipe diameter of 60mm. The most effective and important parameter of this experiment is plastic packing factor(PPF). The focuses of these results are pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient. As results, the friction factor of plastic particle slurry becomes higher at laminar flow region than pure water because of buoyancy effect of plastic particle but the local heat transfer coefficient becomes higher.

  • The objective of the present study is to reveal thermal characteristic of microcapsulated lauric acid slurry, which have high latent heat during phase change from solid to liquid, in circular pipe. Test were performed with microcapsulated lauric acid slurry in a heating test section with a constant heat flux boundary condition. Local Nusselt number and the effective thermal capacity were measured. As the size of microcapsulated lauric acid were increased, Local Nusselt number of microcapsulated lauric acid slurry were increased. The effective thermal capacity of microcapsulated lauric acid slurry was 0.5 times than it of water
