  • In discriminant analysis, we consider a special pattern which contains a block of missing observations. We assume that the two populations are equally likely and the costs of misclassification are equal. In this situation, we consider the bootstrap confidence intervals of the error rate in the circular models when the covariance matrices are equal and not equal.

  • A series of experimental results on thin mild steel plates clamped at the boundary subjected to gas detonation shock loading are presented. Detonation occurred by mixing Acetylene (C2H2)-Oxygen (O2) in various volume ratio and different initial pressure. The applied impulse is varied to give deformation in the range from 6 mm to 35 mm. Analytical modeling using energy method was also performed. Dependent material properties, as well as strain rate sensitivity, are included in the theoretical modeling. Prediction values for midpoint deflections are compared with experimental data. The analytical predictions have good agreement with experimental values. Moreover, it has been shown that the obtained model has much less error compared with those previously proposed in the literature.

  • Sky simulator is a effective daylighting design tool that can evaluate three dimensional performance of lighting. Especially, the dome type sky simulator offer reliable and reproducible daylighting performance with different standard sky models. Recently, K university has developed the dome type sky simulator(sky dome) with the diameter of 6.5m and the height of 3.7m. The sky dome consists of a group of 145 large steel panels with 72 halogen lamps which are arranged in a circular array. The luminance distribution of the sky dome can be calibrated by changing the angle and the brightness of the lamps respectively. To allow more reliable prediction and evaluation of daylighting through the sky dome, It is essential to validate the sky luminance distribution of the sky dome. This study consider the validation of the comparisons between the measured and the calculated luminance values for the CIE standard overcast sky. Also, the error rate between the measured and the calculated luminance values were compared to the previous studies. The results indicated that the K university sky dome can reproduce reliable CIE standard overcast sky with the average relative error rate of 4.4% and root-mean-square error(RMSE) of 5.4%.

  • APSK (Amplitude Phase Shift Keying) digital modulation is characterized by the circular positioning of the transmission symbols in the constellation diagram. Due to such structural characteristics, the peak-to-average power ratio of the APSK modulation is lower than that of the QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), and the amount of performance degradation over nonlinear channels can be mitigated. The APSK modulation scheme has recently been adopted as satellite communication system standards including the DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite, Version 2). In this paper, a BER (Bit Error Rate) upper bound approximation formula is derived using the channel model with the output power saturation characteristics, and its accuracy is demonstrated. Using the derived formula, the input power level that minimizes the BER is determined. The optimized performance based on the radii ratio of the 16APSK constellation and the channel saturation level is also presented.

  • When back analysis is used for the assessment of an operating subsea tunnel safety in various measurement information such as stress, water pressure and tunnel lining and ground stiffness degradation, the reliable results within tolerable error rate can be obtained. By utilizing a commercial geotechnical analysis program FLAC3D, back analysis can be performed with a DEA which has already been successfully validated in previous studies. However, relative more time-consumption is the drawback of this approach. For this reason, this study introduced beam-spring model-based on FEM solver which uses less analysis time relatively. Beam-spring program capable of structural analysis of a circular tunnel section was developed by using Python language and combined with the built-DEA. From the measurement datum, expected to estimate the stability of an operation tunnel close to real-time.
