  • The characteristics of fatigue cumulative damage and fatigue life of 8-harness satin woven CFRP composites with a circular hole under constant amplitude and 2-level block loading are estimated by Stochastic Makov chain model. It is found in this study that the fatigue damage accumulation behavior is very random and the fatigue damage is accumulated as two regions under constant amplitude fatigue loading. In constant amplitude fatigue loading the predicted mean number of cycles to a specified damage state by Markov chain model shows a good agreement with the test result. The predicted distribution of the fatigue cumulative damage by Markov chain model is similar to the test result. The fatigue life predictions under 2-level block loading by Markov chain model revised are good fitted to the test result more than by 2-parameter Weibull distribution function using percent failure rule.

  • In this study, the prediction of the fatigue life as well as the extimation of the characteristics of fatigue cumulative damage on GFRP under random loading were performed. The constant amplitude tests and the ramdom loading test were carried on notched GFRP specimens with a circular hole. Random waves were generated with a micro-computer and had wide band spectra. Since it is useful that the prediction of fatigue life ot the given load sequences is based on S-N curves under constant amplitude loading, the estimation of equivalent stress is done on every random waves. The equivalent stress wasat first estimated by Miner's rule and then by the proposed model which was based on Hashin-Rotem's comulative damage theory regarding nonlinear fatigue cumulative damage behavior. The fatigue lives were predicted from each equivalent stress evaluated. And each predicted fatigue llife was compared with experimental results. The number of cycles of random loads were counted by mean-cross counting method. The reuslts showed that the fatigue life predicted by proposed model was correlated well with the experimental results in comparison with Miner's model.

  • This research deals with the analytical solution of a curved beam with different shapes made of functionally graded materials (FGM's). It was assumed that modulus of elasticity is graded along the thickness direction of curved beam based on a power function. The beam was loaded under pure bending. Using the linear theory of elasticity, the general relation for radial distribution of radial and circumferential stresses of arbitrary cross section was derived. The effect of nonhomogeneity was considered on the radial distribution of circumferential stress. This behavior can be investigated for positive and negative values of nonhomogeneity index. The novelty of this study is application of the obtained results for different combination of material properties and cross sections. Achieved results indicate that employing different nonhomogeneity index and selection of various types of cross sections (rectangular, triangular or circular) can control the distribution of radial and circumferential stresses as designer want and propose new solutions by these options. Increasing the nonhomogeneity index for positive or negative values of nonhomogeneity index and for various cross sections presents different behaviors along the thickness direction. In order to validate the present research, the results of this research can be compared with previous result for reachable cross sections and non homogeneity index.

  • With the increase of the production of energy from renewable, it becomes important to look at techniques to store this energy. Therefore, a single winding bearingless flywheel motor (SWBFM) specially for flywheel energy storage system is introduced. For the control system of SWBFM, coupling between the torque and the suspension subsystems exists inevitably. It is necessary to build a reasonable radial force mathematical model to precisely control SWBFM. However, SWBFM has twelve independently controlled windings which leads to high-order matrix transformation and complex differential calculation in the process of mathematical modeling based on virtual displacement method. In this frame, a Maxwell tensor modeling method which is no need the detailed derivation and complex theoretical computation is present. Moreover, it possesses advantages of universality, accuracy, and directness. The fringing magnetic path is improved from straight and circular lines to elliptical line and the rationality of elliptical line is verified by virtual displacement theory according to electromagnetic torque characteristics. A correction function is taken to increase the model accuracy based on finite element analysis. Simulation and experimental results show that the control system of SWBFM with radial force mathematical model based on Maxwell tensor method is feasible and has high precision.

  • In this article, an analytical solution is presented for the steady-state axisymmetric thermal stress distributions in a composite hollow cylinder. The cylinder is composed of two isotropic and anisotropic materials which is subjected to the thermal boundary conditions of convective as well as radiative heating and cooling on the inner and outer surfaces, respectively. The solution of the temperature is obtained by means of Bessel functions and the thermal stresses are developed using Potential functions of displacement. Numerical results are derived for a cylinder which is similar to a gas turbine combustor and showed that the maximum temperature and thermal stresses (radial, hoop, axial) occurred in the middle point of cylinder and the values of thermal stresses in anisotropic cylinder are more than the isotropic cylinder. It is worthy to note that the values of the thermal conditions which estimated in this research, not to be presented in any other papers but these values are very accurate in calculation.

  • In this study, two common types of laterally supported castellated beams are considered as design problems: beams with hexagonal openings and beams with circular openings. The main goal of manufacturing these beams is to increase the moment of inertia and section modulus, which results in greater strength and rigidity. These types of open-web beams have found widespread use, primarily in buildings, because of great savings in materials and construction costs. Hence, the minimum cost is taken as the design objective function and the Colliding Bodies Optimization (CBO) method is utilized for obtaining the solution of the design problem. The design methods used in this study are consistent with BS5950 Part 1 and Part 3, and Euro Code 3. A number of design examples are considered to optimize by CBO algorithm. Comparison of the optimal solution of the CBO algorithm with those of the Enhanced Charged System Search (ECSS) method demonstrate the capability of CBO in solving the present type of design problem. It is also observed that optimization results obtained by the CBO algorithm for three design examples have less cost in comparison to the results of the ECSS algorithm. From the results obtained in this paper, it can be concluded that the use of beam with hexagonal opening requires smaller amount of steel material and it is superior to the cellular beam from the cost point of view.

  • Understanding three-dimensional structure and parameters (e.g., radial velocity, angular width, source location and density) of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) is essential for space weather forecast. In this study, we determine CME mean density in solar corona and near the Earth. We select 38 halo CMEs, which have the corresponding interplanetary CMEs (ICMEs), by SOHO/LASCO from 2000 to 2014. To estimate a CME volume, we assume that a CME structure is a full ice-cream cone which is a symmetrical circular cone combined with a hemisphere. We derive CME mean density as a function of radial height, which are approximately fitted to power-law functions. The average of power-law indexes is about 2.1 in the LASCO C3 field of view. We also obtain power-law functions for both CME mean density at 21 solar radii and ICME mean density at 1AU, with the average power-law index of 2.6. We estimate a ratio of CME density to background density based on the Leblanc et al.(1998) at 21 solar radii. Interestingly, the average of the ratios is 4.0, which is the same as a default value used in the WSA-ENLIL model.

  • Cells can communicate in a variety of ways, such as by contacting each other or by secreting certain factors. Recently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been proposed to be mediators of cell communication. EVs are small vesicles with a lipid bilayer membrane that are secreted by cells and contain DNA, RNAs, lipids, and proteins. These EVs are secreted from various cell types and can migrate and be internalized by recipient cells that are the same or different than those that secrete them. EVs harboring various components are involved in regulating gene expression in recipient cells. These EVs may also play important roles in the senescence of cells and the accumulation of senescent cells in the body. Studies on the function of EVs in senescent cells and the mechanisms through which nonsenescent and senescent cells communicate through EVs are being actively conducted. Here, we summarize studies suggesting that EVs secreted from senescent cells can promote the senescence of other cells and that EVs secreted from nonsenescent cells can rejuvenate senescent cells. In addition, we discuss the functional components (proteins, RNAs, and other molecules) enclosed in EVs that enter recipient cells.

  • The aim of this work is to analyze and predict the wave propagation behavior of the carbon nanotube reinforced composites (CNTRC) beams within the framework of various higher order shear deformation beam theory. Using the Euler-Lagrange principle, the wave equations for CNTRC beams are derived, where the determining factor is to make the determinant equal to zero. Based on the eigenvalue method, the relationship between wave number and circular frequency is obtained. Furthermore, the phase and group velocities during wave propagation are obtained as a function of wave number, and the material properties of CNTRC beams are estimated by the mixture rule. In this paper, various higher order shear beam theory including Euler beam theory, Timoshenko beam theory and other beam theories are mainly adopted to analyze the wave propagation problem of the CNTRC beams, and by this way, we conduct a comparative analysis to verify the correctness of this paper. The mathematical model provided in this paper is verified numerically by comparing it with some existing results. We further investigate the effects of different enhancement modes of CNTs, volume fraction of CNTs, spring factor and other aspects on the wave propagation behaviors of the CNTRC beams.
