Analytical Solutions of Birefringence and Dichroism Spectroscopy for the Jg = 0 → Je = 1 Transition

  • We present accurate analytical solutions of the lineshapes of birefringence (rotation) and dichroism (absorption) spectroscopy for a circular anisotropic medium composed of atoms of the transition $J_g=0{\rightarrow}J_e=1$. The susceptibility of a weak probe beam was analytically calculated and was averaged over a Maxwell-Boltzmann velocity distribution. The lineshapes of the two spectroscopies were then presented in analytical forms at arbitrary values of the linewidths of the inhomogeneous (Doppler) broadening and the homogeneous (natural) broadening of the atoms.

  • Hydroforming is a forming process enabling circular metal tubes to be produced in complex cross sections along curved axial paths With the availability of advanced machine design and control They offer advantages over stamped sheet metal in lower tooling cost and structural mass The technology is relatively new so that there is no large knowledge base to assist the fundamentals of tube hydroforming technology. The purpose of this paper is found that adaptive bending condition and contact condition for bended part has uniform thickness distribution.

지오그리드로 보강한 성토지반의 응력분포 (Stress Distribution under a Geogrid-Reinforced Soil Pad)

  • 얕은 기초의 침하는 기초에 가해지는 상재 하중의 지반에 전달될 때 분포되는 응력의 특성과 크기에 관련되어 일어난다. 일반적으로 지반의 보강재로 사용되는 지오그리드로 두께가 작은 토체를 보강하면 지중에 전달되는 응력을 재분포시켜 감소시킨다. 이 논문에서는 현장시험을 통하여 여러 층의 지오그리드로 토체를 보강시 토체 상부에 가해지는 원형 등분포 하중하에서 토체의 응력 분포를 측정하였다. 인천국제 공항 건설 현장의 준설 매립 구간에서 행하여진 이 시험을 통하여, 지오그리드로 보강된 토체의 하중 분포는 기초에 가해지는 하중 강도와, 보강재 포설층수, 토체의 두께의 함수로 나타낼 수 있다.

  • The inductances of air-core solenoid magnets with circular cross sections depend on the geometric structure and winding number. For the calculation of the inductance of these magnets, Grover's table is normally used. This study presents a method to calculate the inductance using finite element method. The result of the computation agrees well with those found in the literature. Inductances of solenoid magnets with nonuniform winding distribution of complicated shapes can also be computed using this method.

Waveguide Applicator System for Head and Neck Hyperthermia Treatment

  • The main purpose of this article is a complex hyperthermia applicator system design for treatment of head and neck region. The applicator system is composed of four waveguides with a stripline horn aperture and circular water bolus. The specific absorption rate (SAR) and temperature distribution from this applicator in various numerical phantom models was investigated. For used targets, the treatment planning based on the optimization process made through the SEMCAD X software is added to show the steering possibilities of SAR and thereby temperature distribution. Using treatment planning software, we proved that the SAR and temperature distribution can be effectively controlled (by amplitude and phase changing) improving the SAR and temperature target coverage approximately by 20 %. For the proposed applicator system analysis and quantitative evaluation of two parameters 25 % iso-SAR and $41^{\circ}C$ iso-temperature contours in the treatment area with the respect to sensitive structures in treatment area were defined. To verify our simulation results, the real measurement of reflectivity coefficient as well as the temperature distribution in a homogenous phantom were performed.

우리나라 전통 숯의 물리.화학적 특성 (Characteristics of Physical and Adsorption of Korean Traditional Charcoal)

  • The water purification was very important in Korea which has not sufficient water resource and while adsorption method among the various methods to eliminate the water pollutants has been widely used by activated carbon. This study was conducted the basic experiment for hall distribution, pH, conductivity, electronic microscope, cation exchange and inorganic materials the adsorption capacity of Korean traditional charcoal which has similar characteristics to activated carbon of organic pollutants. As a result of observing Korean traditional charcoal with electronic microscope, it was found that it has porous structure, oak charcoal has circular structure, pine charcoal has square structure and bamboo charcoal has hexagonal structure, which has high void fraction per unit area because of its thin cell wall structure. As a result of experimenting hall distribution, hall distribution of bamboo high temperature charcoal is high as 0.269cc/g and has the greatest inorganic contents and cation exchange capacity(CEC) which are the important factor of chemical adsorption.

Photometric properties of the globular cluster system of the massive elliptical galaxy M86

  • We present a photometric study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the giant elliptical galaxy M86 in the Virgo Cluster, using the Washington $CT_1$ images taken at the KPNO 4 m telescope. The color distribution of the GCs in M86 is bimodal. The radial number density profile of the blue GCs decreases more slowly as the galactocentric distance increases than that of the red GCs. The density profile of the red GCs is similar to the surface brightness profile of M86 stellar halo. The blue GCs have a roughly circular spatial distribution, while the red GCs have a spatial distribution somewhat elongated, which is consistent with the distribution of the galaxy stellar light. M86 GCs have the negative radial color gradient because the number ratio of the blue GCs to the red GCs increases as galactocentric radius increases. The mean color of the red GCs is similar to that of the stellar halo. The bright blue GCs in the outer region of M86 reveal a blue tilt that the mean colors of the blue GCs get redder as they get brighter. We discuss these results in comparison with other giant elliptical galaxies in the Virgo Cluster.

Shear failure and mechanical behavior of flawed specimens containing opening and joints

  • Shear-induced instability of jointed rock mass has greatly threatened the safety of underground openings. To better understand the failure mechanism of surrounding rock mass under shear, the flawed specimens containing a circular opening and two open joints are prepared and used to conduct direct shear tests. Both experimental and numerical results show that joint inclination (β) has a significant effect on the shear strength, dilation, cracking behavior and stress distribution around flaws. The maximum shear strength, occurring at β=30°, usually corresponds to a unifrom stress state around joint and an intense energy release. However, a larger joint inclination, such as β=90°~150°, will cause a more uneven stress distribution and a stronger stress concentration, thus a lower shear strength. The stress distribution around opening changes little with joint inclination, while the magnitude varys much. Both compression and tension around opening will be greatly enhanced by the 30°-joints. In addition, a higher normal stress tends to enhance the compression and suppress the tension around flaws, resulting in an earlier generation and a larger proportion of shear cracks.

An approach for calculating the failure loads of unprotected concrete filled steel columns exposed to fire

  • This paper deals with the development of an approach for evaluating the squash load and rigidity of unprotected concrete filled steel columns at elevated temperatures. The current approach of evaluating these properties is reviewed. It is shown that with a non-uniform temperature distribution, over the composite cross-section, the calculations for the squash load and rigidity are tedious in the current method. A simplified approach is proposed to evaluate the temperature distribution, squash load, and rigidity of composite columns. This approach is based on the model in Eurocode 4 and can conveniently be used to calculate the resistance to axial compression of a concrete filled steel column for any fire resistance time. The accuracy of the proposed approach is assessed by comparing the predicted strengths against the results of fire tests on concrete filled circular and square steel columns. The applicability of the proposed approach to a design situation is illustrated through a numerical example.
