  • This study investigates how EFL learners' chunking ability both in oral and silent reading affects reading comprehension, and how the chunking ability in silent reading relates to that of oral reading. The participants of this study consisted of 30 Korean university students taking a required 'English Reading' course. Chunking is a technique of grouping words into meaningful syntactic units for better understanding. Chunking was measured from pauses in oral reading. Results of this study suggest that the participants who can chunk properly both orally and silently display better comprehension of texts in general. However, chunking in silent reading was found to be a stronger indicator of improved reading comprehension. Also, the chunking skills in silent reading showed a statistically strong correlation with those observed in oral reading, suggesting that the chunking ability in silent reading may develop in parallel with that of oral reading. Oral as well as silent reading should be continuously practiced to improve reading comprehension of all levels of EFL learners, including low levels of learners. There is also a need to encourage students to read aloud with appropriate prosodic cues to help them read in meaningful units of words, therefore increasing EFL learners' comprehension not only in reading but also in listening.

  • Tests were conducted to obtain heat transfer coefficients during slush formation from 10% sucrose solution. The slush was made by scraping the ice formed on the cylinder. Cold brine was supplied inside of the evaporator cylinder to cool the outer surface. Below a certain brine temperature, which was $-5^{\circ}C$ in this study, the solution was supercooled, and suddenly turned into ice crystals. During slush formation, the heat transfer coefficient oscillated significantly, due to periodic removal of ice chunk form the surface. The average heat transfer coefficient during slush formation was 40~70% higher than that obtained during single phase cooling. The heat transfer coefficient was also affected by the brine temperature with increasing heat transfer coefficient at higher brine temperature.

  • Peer-to-peer (P2P) systems have proved the most effective and popular file sharing applications in recent years. Previous studies mainly focused on equal service and differentiated service strategies when peers have no initial data before their downloads. For an upload-constrained P2P file sharing system, we model both the equal service process and the differentiated service process when the initial data distribution of peers satisfies some special conditions. Moreover, we show how to minimize the time required to distribute the file to any number of peers. The proposed fluid-based models can reveal the intrinsic relations among the initial data amount, the peer set size, and the minimum last finish time. The closed-form expressions derived from the extended models can closely approximate chunk-based models and systems, especially for relatively large files. As an application of the extended models, we show how to provide differentiated service efficiently to multiple peer sets. Since no limits are imposed on the upload bandwidth of peers or the size of each peer set, we believe that our analytic process and the results achieved can provide not only fundamental insights into bandwidth allocation and data scheduling but also a helpful reference for both improving system performance and building an effective incentive mechanism for P2P file sharing systems.

  • The 18th Winter Universiade will be held in Muju in 1997. It is a good opportunity to inform the local foods of Muju to the inside and outside of Korea. First of all, we carefully investigated the quantity of all kinds of food material, their circulation ability, and cookery per year in Muju. We found about sixty kinds of food as many as restaurant. We presented how to improve such kinds of food as O-Chunk (fish porridge), Minmulmaeuntang, Kochunaengi chungsik, etc. and how to use the special products of Muju such as yam, kochunaengi, wasabi and wild herb. The many kinds of cookery were specialized to cooks through manual and actual skills. And then we held a food contest that twenty-two cooks took part in the contest and there were exhibitted forty-two kinds of foods. Finally, through discussion and food contest, Muju Sanchae Bibimbap (meal which mixed rice with wild plants), Muju Sanchae chungsik (meal which has various wild plants with rice), Muju Kochunaengi Chungsik (meal which has various wild plants and wasabi with rice), Ma Naengmyun (cold yam noodle) and Muju Minmulmaeuntang (hot fish porridge) were recommended.

  • In this work, we have presented ATSA, a hierarchical attention deep learning model for Arabic sentiment analysis. ATSA was proposed by addressing several challenges and limitations that arise when applying the classical models to perform opinion mining in Arabic. Arabic-specific challenges including the morphological complexity and language sparsity were addressed by modeling semantic composition at the Arabic morphological analysis after performing tokenization. ATSA proposed to perform phrase-chunks sentiment embedding to provide a broader set of features that cover syntactic, semantic, and sentiment information. We used phrase structure parser to generate syntactic parse trees that are used as a reference for ATSA. This allowed modeling semantic and sentiment composition following the natural order in which words and phrase-chunks are combined in a sentence. The proposed model was evaluated on three Arabic corpora that correspond to different genres (newswire, online comments, and tweets) and different writing styles (MSA and dialectal Arabic). Experiments showed that each of the proposed contributions in ATSA was able to achieve significant improvement. The combination of all contributions, which makes up for the complete ATSA model, was able to improve the classification accuracy by 3% and 2% on Tweets and Hotel reviews datasets, respectively, compared to the existing models.

  • Breastfeeding has been known as the best feeding practice to prevent allergies including atopic dermatitis (AD) However, the benefit on the prevention of allergic disease is still controversial. The objectives of this study were to examine the rate of sensitization to the protein of eggs, cow's milk and soy in exclusively breastfed infants and to evaluate antigen-antibody reaction between breast milk and serum of AD infant. Data on feeding and food hypersensitivity were obtained for 62 AD infants (32 male, 30 female) aged < 6 month who had visited Samsung Medical Center from September 2001 to May 2003. Food hypersensitivity was determined by measuring specific IgE to egg, cow's milk and soy. Specific IgE levels > 0.7 kU/L by CAP assay (Pharmacia, Uppsala, Sweden) were considered positive. The rates of sensitization in breastfed infants were $41.9\%$ (26/62) to egg, $30.6\%$ (19/62) to milk and $18.0\%$ (11/62) to soy. Immunoblotting analyses were performed using breast milk with the matched serum of seven AD infants (4 male/3 female). Binding patterns of AD infant's IgE to breast milk extract showed visible specific band for immunoglobulin, especially in case of a lactating mother who did not completely restricted ingestion of egg, milk and soy. These results indicate that sensitization to food allergen develops via breast milk feeding. Breast milk feeding should be recommended in infants at risk of developing allergic disease, but maternal intake of highly allergenic food might be restricted for prevention and treatment of food allergy among the babies with AD.

  • As the number of people using digital devices has increased, the digital forensic, which aims at finding clues for crimes in digital data, has been developed and become more important especially in court. Together with the development of the digital forensic, the anti-forensic which aims at thwarting the digital forensic has also been developed. As an example, with anti-forensic technology the criminal would delete an digital evidence without which the investigator would be hard to find any clue for crimes. In such a case, recovery techniques on deleted or damaged information will be very important in the field of digital forensic. Until now, even though EVTX(event log)-based recovery techniques on deleted files have been presented, but there has been no study to retrieve event log data itself, In this paper, we propose some recovery algorithms on deleted or damaged event log file and show that our recovery algorithms have high success rate through experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose the distributed cache management scheme to efficiently access small files in Hadoop Distributed File Systems(HDFS). The proposed scheme can reduce the number of metadata managed by a name node since many small files are merged and stored in a chunk. It is also possible to reduce the file access costs, by keeping the information of requested files using the client cache and data node caches. The client cache keeps small files that a user requests and metadata. Each data node cache keeps the small files that are frequently requested by users. It is shown through performance evaluation that the proposed scheme significantly reduces the processing time over the existing scheme.

  • Today, the scale of the computer software market has increased, and massive sized software has been developed to satisfy diverse requirements. In this context, software complexity is increasing and the quality of software is becoming more difficult to manage. In particular, software reuse is important for the improvement of the environments of legacy systems and new system development. In this paper, we propose a method to reuse modules that are certified by quality. Reusable levels are divided into code area (method, class, and component), project domain, and business levels. Based on the coupling and cohesion of software complexity, we propose a reusable module extraction mechanism with reusability metrics, which constructs a visualization of the "reusable module's chunk" based on the method and class levels. By applying reverse engineering to legacy projects, it is possible to identify reusable modules/objects/chunks. If these modules/objects/chunks are to be reused to develop an extension system or similar new system, we need to ensure software reliability in order to reduce the time and cost of software development.
