  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of fascia chuna therapy in the treatment of piriformis syndrome. Methods A literature search was conducted using 8 databases to identify all randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) that investigated fascia chuna therapy as a treatment for piriformis syndrome. The selected studies are analyzed the risk of bias through Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results Among 37 articles that were searched, 3 RCTs met our inclusion criteria and were included in this analysis. These studies demonstrated positive results of Fascia Chuna Therapy with respect to the reduction of pain scale and functional scale compared with other treatment methods. Conclusions Based on results, fascia chuna therapy could be effective in piriformis syndrome. However there are limitations that the number of selected studies was small and risk of bias was unclear. More well-designed RCTs are required to provide clearer evidence.

  • Objectives : The present study examines indications and treatment techniques of Chuna manual therapy. Methods : We searched the clinical studies on Chuna manual therapy through 5 korean web databases, 2 journals.(key word 'chuna') After selecting appropriate clinical studies(Bongchuna, massage, side effect, contraindication are excepted), we analyzed them according to diseases, Chuna techniques, type of clinical trials. Results : 101 studies are selected and analyzed. They studied about cervical(26%), thoracic(12%), lumbar (29%)spinal disorders, temporomandibular joint disorders(4%), pelvic region disorders(4%), upper(6%), lower extremity(5%) disorders and other diseases(15%). Spinal disorders are studied frequently. Mild techniques like supine position both hand cervical spine flexion distraction, JS supine position cervical spine distraction, flexion distraction technique are used more frequently than adjustment by thrust. Conclusions : We have to enhance education and training about techniques that are frequently used and studied. Research and improvement of infrequently used techniques are needed. In-depth research about side effects and contraindication is needed. Highquality clinical research and systematic review should be needed to prove the therapeutic effect of Chuna treatment.

  • Objectives This study aimed to systematically review the effect of manual therapy including Chuna for fever in children. Methods Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on the treatment of Chuna therapy for fever in children were selected among studies published until May 2024 in six databases. Cochrane's risk of bias tool was used to evaluate the quality of selected studies and Revman 5.4.1 was used for the synthesis of results. Results 26 RCTs were finally selected and analyzed. The meta analysis showed excellent clinical effectiveness of manual therapy including Chuna. The total effective rate(TER) of manual therapy including Chuna and Chuna with conventional treatment is statistically higher than control group of conventional treatment. And, time until fever disappear of manual therapy including Chuna and Chuna with conventional treatment is statistically shorter than control group and daily amount and frequency of using ibuprophen is also statistically lower than control group. Conclusions This systemic review and meta analysis shows reliability, clinical effectiveness and significance of Chuna treatment for fever in children. However, the quality of the studies were somewhat low and there are some uncertainties in the result analysis due to heterogeneity between studies. More high quality clinical trials would be required.

  • Objectives : A rare case of dural tear ensuing after a cervical Chuna Manipulation Treatment leading to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage in the lower cervical and upper thoracic spine was found, so we report it. Methods : A 32-year-old woman presented with back and neck pain in 1 days earlier. The patient undertook a cervical Chuna Manipulation Treatment. After this maneuver, the patient complained of an orthostatic headache with nausea. The patient's headache worsened, and lying down gave the only measure of limited relief. In Brain CT and MRI study, nonspecific finding was detected. In Cistemography study, CSF leakage at lower cervical or upper thoracic area was detected. Results and Conclusions : It is supposed that this patient suffered a dural tear and CSF leakage secondarily due to a cervical Chuna Manipulation Treatment. From this case, we can understand the etiology of dural tear to some extent and consider the complication of Chuna Manipulation Treatment. In the future, more study, research and prospective trial for complications of a cervical Chuna Manipulation Treatment is needed.

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effects of Chuna Craniosacral therapy on headaches. Methods : 1. A combination of keywords, such as headache and Chuna Craniosacral therapy, were searched based on studies published in 11 databases (Pubmed, CAJ, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, KMBASE, KISS, KISTI, NDSL, RISS and DBPIA) up to October 31st, 2019. 2. The subjects were randomized controlled clinical studies using Chuna Craniosacral therapy. 3. We used the Cochrane perverse assessment tools for quality assessment. Results : 1. Six randomized controlled clinical studies were selected, and all 404 patients were evaluated. 2. As a result of the meta-analysis, Chuna Craniosacral therapy and scalp acupuncture showed no difference in treatment effect. 3. Chuna Craniosacral therapy showed a significant difference in treatment effect compared to Maitlands mobilization. 4. Chuna Craniosacral therapy showed a partial difference in treatment effect compared to low intensity magnetotherapy. 5. Chuna Craniosacral therapy group showed a significant effect on pain reduction compared to the untreated group. 6. All six papers showed a high degree of bias risk, with no mention of side effects or adverse events. Conclusion : This study provided only a limited assessment of the curative effects of Chuna Craniosacral therapy's headache treatment. However, there was no mention of side effects, and given the therapeutic effects analyzed in individual papers, it is believed that Craniosacral therapy can be used safely to treat headaches.
