Background: The purpose of this study was to effect of action observation with deep neck flexors strengthening exercise on pain and function in patients with chronic neck pain. Methods: Thirty patients with chronic neck pain were randomly action observation with deep neck flexors strengthening exercise group (AOT group; n=15) and deep neck flexors strengthening exercise group (FSE group; n=15). The intervention was applied for 50 minutes a day, 5 times a week for a total of 4 weeks. The intervention effect were evaluated before and after the intervention. visual analogue scale (VAS), pressure pain threshold (PPT), and Korea neck disability index (KNDI). Results: As a result of comparing within group, AOT group showed pre and post test, VAS (p<.01), PPT (p<.01), KNDI (p<.01) and FSE group VAS (p<.01), PPT (p<.05), KNDI (p<.01) significantly. In the comparison between the two groups, AOT group than FSE group in VAS, PPT and KNDI significantly (p<.05). Conclusion: Action observation with deep neck flexors strengthening exercise were founded to effective in reducing pain and improving function in patients with chronic neck pain. It is suggested as basic data of clinical intervention.
Background: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of manual therapy and therapeutic exercise on pain and body function in elder women with chronic low back pain. Methods: The patients with chronic low back pain were randomly divided 2 group. The experiment group (n=11) was taken manual therapy and therapeutic exercise program. The control group (n=10) was taken physical therapy program(hot pack with 30 minutes and ICT with 15 minutes and ultra sound with 15 minutes). Both groups intervention performed 3 session during 6 weeks. We measured the quadruple visual analogue scale, flexibility, static balance, leg strength subject of symptom before and after experiment. The significant test pared t-test according to applying the manual therapy and therapeutic exercise group and control group between group used independent t-test. Results: Pain assessment in the experimental group was significantly different between time and group. Flexibility test groups were not significantly different between time and group. The static balance was not significantly different for the time. Strength tests were also not significantly different for the time. Conclusions: According to the results, manual therapy and therapeutic exercise group it was found to be helpful in pain, flexibility, static balance, not strength in elderly patients with chronic low back pain.
Purpose : This study aimed to examine the effects of sling exercise therapy on the relief of low back pain and the cross-sectional area change of lumbar muscles by CT analysis for chronic low back pain patients. Methods : Forty-one patients with diagnosis of chronic low back pain was divided sling exercise therapy group(SEG) 19 subjects and conservative physical therapy group(CPG) 22 subjects. we randomized and treated them(subjects) for 12 weeks. As using visual analogue scale(VAS), we evaluated recovery accuracy of pain, and for investigating cross-section area change of lumbar muscles for before and after treatment we used computed tomography(CT). Results : This study were summarized as follows : 1) As treatment period, in each compared testing on VAS of SEG and CPG, the both group was significantly different(p<.05). 2) Compared testing on VAS of between-subject groups(SEG and CPG) were not significantly different(p>.05). 3) At SEG of before and after treatment, in compared testing on cross-section area size of lumbar muscles, All muscles of psoas major, quadratus lumborum, erector spinae and multifidus were significantly different(p<.05). At CPG, psoas major was significantly different(p<.05). But other muscles were not significantly different(p>.05). Conclusion : From this result, both sling exercise therapy and the conservative physical therapy are effect on decrease of pain for chronic low back pain patients. but Increasing of the cross-section area being proportioned with muscular strengthening of low back muscle is noticeable difference in SEG. Therefore, sling exercise therapy have affect both decreasing of pain for chronic low back pain patients and lumbar muscles strengthening.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a multi-disciplinary self-management intervention based on empowerment theory and to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention for older adults with chronic illness. Methods: A randomized controlled trial design was used with 43 Korean older adults with chronic illness (Experimental group=22, Control group=21). The intervention consisted of two phases: (1) 8-week multi-disciplinary, team guided, group-based health education, exercise session, and individual empowerment counseling, (2) 16-week self-help group activities including weekly exercise and group discussion to maintain acquired self-management skills and problem-solving skills. Baseline, 8-week, and 24-week assessments measured health empowerment, exercise self-efficacy, physical activity, and physical function. Results: Health empowerment, physical activity, and physical function in the experimental group increased significantly compared to the control group over time. Exercise self-efficacy significantly increased in experimental group over time but there was no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: The self-management program based on empowerment theory improved health empowerment, physical activity, and physical function in older adults. The study finding suggests that a health empowerment strategy may be an effective approach for older adults with multiple chronic illnesses in terms of achieving a sense of control over their chronic illness and actively engaging self-management.
Purpose : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sitting questionmark exercise (SQE) and brugger's relief exercise (BRE) on pain, ROM, proprioception, NDI in 60 Patients with Chronic Cervical Pain (CCP). Methods : In this study the VAS and NDI were used to investigate changes in pain and disability with SQE and BRE. The pre and post intervention intra group differences were analysed with a paired t-test for mean values, and the inter group differences were analyzed with an independent t-test for mean values. Results : The pain of both of groups was lowered with statistical significance. Pain of SQE group is lower than that of BRE group with statistical significance. ROM in both groups was improved, but there is no significant difference between two groups. NDI in both of groups were significantly decreased after the intervention, but there was no significant difference between groups. there was NDI ratio (%) significant difference between each groups. Conclusion : SQE intervention may be considered a more effective clinical approach for reducing pain and restoring proprioception in patients with CCP.
Purpose: This study investigated the effects of trunk exercise using less-affected extremities on gait and balance in chronic stroke patients. Methods: Thirty subjects with chronic stroke disease were divided into two groups: a trunk exercise group that used less-affected extremities (n=15) and a general trunk exercise group (n=15). All interventions were conducted 30 min a day, 6 times per week, for 3 weeks. Gait parameters were measured before and after the intervention using Zebris FDM-1.5. In addition, all subjects were evaluated using the Trunk Impairment Scale, the Berg Balance Scale, and the Functional Gait Assessment before and after the intervention. Results: Both groups showed improvements on all outcome measured pre- to post-intervention (p<0.05). The groups exhibited significant differences for TIS, BBS, FGA, gait speed, step length, and cadence at post-intervention (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that trunk exercise using less-affected extremities has therapeutic benefits on gait and balance in individuals with chronic stroke disease.

Methods:I divided into two groups who has chronic back pain; one is control group who was given a treatment at the hospital only and the other is experimental group who did another exercise after treatment at the hospital, and there were 10 people in each group. The manual therapy were given to all the patients in each group after applying a stupe and an electric treatment, but the experimental group conducted another exercise program at homes. All the exercise programs were applied to patients 12 times for 4 weeks totally. Results:SPSS for win version 12 was used for statistic analysis and independent t-test was used to find changes between two groups. VAS scale was used to show changes in pain between each group. The grade of pain was decreased between pre&post test to -5.60 in control group and -4.80 in experimental group but there wasn't significant difference between each group. Cobb's degree was used to compare the changes of scoliosis in lumbar and it was improved in each group but there wasn't significant difference between each group. The measurement of pelvic misalignment was decreased between pre&post test to -1.00 in control group and -2.00 in experimental group but it wasn't enough to show significant difference between each group. Conclusion:As you read the results above, for a chronic low back pain patient, application of the manual therapy showed that it has effect on decrease of low back pain, improvement of scoliosis in lumbar and pelvic misalignment. However, the effect of home exercise treatment was not sure about improvements for chronic low back pain patient. So I think there should need further study about the effect of home exercise treatment except the treatments at hospital and the thorough education for the exercise of lumbar should be done before the study for the accurate experiment.

Conclusion: As you read the results above, for a chronic low back pain patient, application of the manual therapy showed that it has effect on decrease of low back pain, increase of flexibility and endurance of extensor. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to research the effects on resistance CKC & OCK exercise method on lower limb muscle activity, in chronic stroke patients. Method : In this study, 18 patients with stroke caused by hemorrhage or infarction were participated. resistance exercise method was conducted in tow different group : one is a close kinetic chain exercise(CKC) group and the other is an open kinetic chain exercise(OKC) group. CKC with physical therapy was applied to 9 patients, and OKC with physical therapy was applied to 9 patients. Under the researcher's guidance, exercise for CKC and OKC group carried out 3 times a week for 30 minutes during 4weeks. Result : There was significantly different for the vastus lateralis, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscle activity within the intervention period both group. The vastus lateralis, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscle activity was significantly increased within the CKC group. The vastus leteralis and tibialis anterior muscle activity was significantly increased within the OKC group. Conclusion : It was confirmed in this study that the CKC exercise was more effective than OKC exercise in improving lower limb muscle activity of chronic stroke patients. This study seggested that CKC may be suitable for individuals with a chronic stroke. furthermore study should be made a lot of researches regarding in other method and varying conditions for many hemiplegic patients.
The purpose of this study were to compare the differences of isometric lumber extension strength and subjective pain degrees between obesity patients group and normal body fat group in disc surgical operated patients. The research purposed to indicate how isometric lumbar extension exercise for 12 weeks affected to lumbar strength and visual analogue scale of patients suffered by chronic back pain. The subjects were 65 low back pain patients(male 30, female 35)who had disease on lumbar in W hospital. The lumbar extension strength was measured at seven degrees of angles, which were $0^{\circ}$$12^{\circ}$$24^{\circ}$$36^{\circ}$$48^{\circ}$$60^{\circ}$ and $72^{\circ}$ before and after the exercise program. We got the results of subjective pain degree using the modified visual analogue scale(VAS) of Lawlis et al(1989) and measured the maximal isometric lumbar strength of all subjects using MedX lumbar extension machine. Results were as follows; After the exercise, the lumbar extension strength of normal body fat patients groups included males and female were greater than that of the obesity patients groups in all angles(p<.05). The visual analogue scale of chronic back pain patients was decreased significantly after the exercise(p<.05). The results showed the significance between the lumbar extension strength and the visual analogue scale of chronic back pain patients and showed that the isometric lumbar extension exercise decreased the subjective pain degrees of visual analogue scale with and increased lumbar extension strength. The correlation between the visual analogue scale and the %body fat of chronic back pain patients was no significant after exercise. Therefore, the lumbar extension strength exercise is needed for improvement of back strength, decrease of %body fat.
