Chlorination of Uranium Dioxide for the preparation of Uranium Tetrachloride (사염화우라늄 제조를 위한 이산화우라늄의 염소화반응)

  • 사염화우라늄 제조를 위해 염소가스와 탄소를 이용한 이산화우라늄의 염소화반응에 대하여 연구하였다. 이론적측면에서 열화학적 자료를 이용한 계산을 통하여 일어날 수 있는 반응들을 확인하였으며, 염소화반응이 진행되는 동안 초래될 현상에 대하여 검토하였다. 실험결과로 부터 반응온도, 반응시간 및 질소가스 주입비율이 사염화우라늄 제조에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 평가하였다. 순수한 이산화우라늄을 사용한 사염화우라늄 제조공정에서의 적절한 반응시간과 반응온도는 각각 약 2시간과 50$0^{\circ}C$-$700^{\circ}C$범위였으며, 질소가스의 적정 주입량은 염소가스의 약 50%로 나타났다.

  • When surfactants meet chlorine bleaches not only in the washing drums but also through the whole path from the stream to the river, it is not difficult to expect that they produce the harmful substances like DBPs. Furthermore considering wastewater that is contaminated by surfactants is used to discharge into drinking water sources via sewer system, it also can be imagined that residual surfactants would contribute to the some extent of DBPs' formation during chlorine disinfection in water treatment plants. Although the main behavior observed was the formation of chloroform during the reaction of LAS with free chlorine, the other manifest behaviors like the trends of pH, MBAS, free chlorine, the mole concentration of benzene ring and etc. were also investigated.

Cyanobacterial Toxins, Drinking Water and Human Health

  • The occurrence of toxic cyanobacterial blooms has been reported worldwide and poses a threat to human health through drinking water exposure. The toxins they produce are highly water soluble and can leach into the water body. To eliminate any risk of drinking water exposure, removal of these toxins is essential before the water is consumed. Conventional water treatment techniques such as chlorination, if managed well, can be effectively used to remove some of these toxins, however, saxitoxin and its derivatives pose a problem. Little toxicological data are available to evaluate the real threat of these toxins.

  • We have synthesized some 2-(2-benzyloxybenzoyloxy)-and 2-(2,6-dibenzyloxybenzoyloxy)-acetophenones as intermediates for flavone synthesis. The reaction of polyoxygenated 2-hydroxyacetophenones with 2-benzyloxybenzoic acid or 2,6-dibenzyloxybenzoic acid in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and p-dimethylaminopyridine resulted in a good yield$(70{\sim}89%)$ of 2-(2-benzyloxybenzoyloxy)-acetophenones or 2-(2,6-dibenzyloxybenzoyloxy) acetophenones under milder conditions and in shorter time than the previous methods. This new methods using benzoic acids instead of benzoyl chlorides saves one reaction step of acid chlorination in comparision of the previous methods.

  • In order to improve the shrink resistance of wool, the fabric was treated with D.C.C.A.(Di-chloro Isocyanuric Acid) and Hercosett. The results obtained as follows, 1. The optimum condition for the shrink resistance of wool fabric was Hercosett concentration of about 2.0~2.5%(o.w.f), pH of 7, the curing temperature of about $140^{\circ}C$, and curing time of 3 minutes. 2. The physical properties with the experimental conditions, such as the tensile strength, bending strengh, crease recovery, tearing strengh were confirmed by measurements.

  • Achieving very low phosphorus levels in treated wastewater will require the installation of additional treatment. Phosphorus removal experiments by chemical coagulation were carried out for the effluent of wastewater treatment plant in this study. TP (total phosphorus) or phosphate were highly related to the addition of PAC (poly aluminium chloride) which is one of the inorganic coagulants. But, organic polymer did not significantly affect the phosphorus removal efficiency. Polymer affected the flocculation of particle especially particle matter less than 10 micrometer so, the number of micro particles was decreased by polymer dose. Chlorination would not affect on chemical coagulation process and TP and turbidity could be effectively removed by the co-addition of PAC and polymer.

  • This study aims to identify the relationship between characteristics of aqueous organic matter and chlorination by-products formation potential according to temporal effect of Juam reservoir in Sun-Choen. The molecular weight distribution and chemical composition of precursors and their relationship with disinfection by-products(DBPs) were investigated. Most of the organic matters was responsible for the major DBP precursors in the raw water are small compounds with a molecular weight less than IKDa, Aromatic contents determined by SUVA correlated well with DBPs, THMs, and HAAs formation. Especially, THMFP/DOC showed better correlation with SUVA than HAAFP/DOC and DBPFP/DOC with SUVA in Juam reservoir. Therefore, effective removal of small molecules or hydrophobic organic matter prior to disinfection process will significantly reduce the DBP concentration in the finished water.

  • The power semiconductor is widely used in the power plant or industrial field because of genealization and enlargement. It has been controlled and operated according to its own control method. Especially in case of Power plant, it plays a major role in AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator) or electro chlorination control circuits. Generally, they used in Analog control system at above field. But each SCR current value is different because of load unbalance or switching characteristic variations, it may cause power plant unit trip or system disorder according to SCR element burn out or bad operating condition. Therefore, in this paper a development of 3 phase current balance control algorithm is described. it gets over the past analog control system limit, controls SCR gate firing angle for 3 phase current balance.

  • N-Aryl-N'(4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyrimidinyl)guanidines (IIa-c) were prepared by cyclization of N-arybiguanides (Ia-c) with ethyl acetoacetate. Coupling of compounds (IIa-c) with the appropriate diazotized arylamine gave N-aryl-N'-(5-arylhydrazono-6-methyl-4-oxopyrimidin-2-yl) guanidines (IIIa-f). Whereas, their chlorination with phosphorus oxychloride followed by treatment of N-aryl-N'-(4-Chloro-6-methyl-2-pyrimidinyl)guanidimes (IVac) with the appropriate arylamine afforded the corresponding 4-arylamino derivatives (Vaf). Compounds (IIa-f) were also formed when compounds (1a-c) were treated with ethyl 2-arylhydrazono-3-oxobutyrates. The antimircobial testing of some of the prepared compounds against some pathogenic microorganisms revealed that only two have a marked effect against Escherichia coli.
