Color removal of dyeing wastewater is becoming more important due to intensive limitation on color unit of effluent water, so this study was to investigate an efficient color removal of dyeing wastewater. We found that bittern+iron chloride(II) inorganic coagulant developed by Kabool research center is much higher than any other inorganic coagulants for color removal. Optimum pH of this coagulant was 10.5 and removed more than 90% for color removal efficiency. The results showed that COD and color unit of effluent water was average 60mg/L and 200~250 units when continuous activated sludge test after coagulation with this coagulant has done. From the results of the experiments, the application of bittern+iron chloride(II) inorganic coagulant can save the operating cost of wastewater treatment plants.
This paper was investigated to clarify the possibility of a biodegradation of materials adsorbed on different porous granular-activated carbons (GACs) such as coal-& coconut-based GAC. Total organic carbon, humic substance and ammonia were used to compare their removal efficiencies. The objective of this study is to determine the adsorption capacity of bioregenerated GAC. When raw water reacted with chloride, the yield of THMs increased as a function of the input amount of chloride. The formation of trihalomethanes (THMs) was investigated in water treated with chlorine when humic acid was used as THM precursor. As the input amount of chloride in raw water increased by two or five-fold to remove the $NH_3$, the chloroform of the THMs significantly increased also five or ten-fold. It was found that the chloroform was significantly removed by the treatment of biological activated carbon (BAG) in comparison with the ozone treatment, and the removal efficiency of THMs in coal-typed GAC was $10-30\%$ better than coconut-typed GAC due to the biological degradation on the surface of the activated carbons.
The atmospheric pressure plasma treatments ($Ar/O_2$ and $Ar/N_2$) of activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were carried out to introduce hydrophilic functional groups on carbon surfaces in order to enhance the hydrogen chloride gas (HCl) adsorption. Surface properties of the ACFs were determined by XPS and SEM. $N_2$/77 K adsorption isotherms were investigated by BET and D-R (Dubinin-Radushkevich) plot methods. The HCl removal efficiency was confirmed by HCl detecting tubes (range:1~40 or 40~1000 ppm). As experimental results, it was found that all plasma-treated ACFs showed the decrease in the pore volume, but the HCl removal efficiency showed higher level than that of the untreated ACFs. This result indicated that the plasma treatments led to the conformation of hydrophilic functional groups on the carbon surfaces, resulting in the increase of the interaction between the ACFs and HCl gas.
This study was conducted to investigate the antitoxic effects of Radix Menispermi extracts against cadmium toxicity. The experimental rats were divided into 5 groups such as control group, cadmium alone treatment group and simultaneous treatment groups of cadmium and three doses of Radix Menispermi extracts. Each group was administered with different dose of Radix Menispermi extracts such as 0.55 mg, 1.10 mg, 1.65 mg/kg wet weight in pallets for 12 weeks. Cadmium Chloride $(CdCl_2)$ was administered by 4 mg/kg body weight. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The simultaneous administration of cadmium and Radix Menispermi significantly more decreased cadmium concentration in liver tissues compared to the administration of cadmium only (P < 0.05). 2. When blood were measured, no significantly difference in haemoglobin, haematocrit, erythrocyte values compared to the administration of cadmium only. 3. The simultaneous administration of cadmium and Radix Menispermi more increased metallothionein concentration in liver than the administration of cadmium only (P < 0.05). 4. There were the histopathological slight changes in the liver and kidney tissues of rats.
Inorganic chemical treated wood was prepared by impregnation of calcium or magnesium chloride ($CaCl_2$ or $MgCl_2$) solution and immersion in saturated solution of ammonium fluoride ($NH_4F$) as a reactant in order to make an introduction of a refractory fluorides with fungicidal and insecticidal effects in wood. The weight percent gains (WPGs) were increased with increase in concentration of calcium chloride or magnesium chloride solution, and were higher in treatment with calcium chloride than with magnesium chloride. Inorganic substances were produced mainly in the lumina of tracheides. These substances were proved to be the calcium fluoride or magnesium fluoride by the energy dispersive X-ray analyzer in conjunction with a scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDX). The treated wood showed good decay resistance because the weight losses were hardly occurred by the test fungi such as Tyromyces palustris and Trametes versicolor. The fire resistance effect was superior to the treated wood compared with that of the untreated wood.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of chemical blend additives (a combination of ferrous sulfate and aluminum chloride) on decreasing pathogens in poultry litter. A total of 240 broiler chickens were assigned to 4 chemical treatments with 4 replicates of 15 chickens per pen. The four chemical blend additives were a control (no treatment), 25 g ferrous sulfate + 75 g aluminum chloride/kg poultry litter, 50 g ferrous sulfate + 100 g aluminum chloride/kg poultry litter and 100 g ferrous sulfate + 150 aluminum chloride/kg poultry litter. During the 6-wk experimental period, there were significant differences in both E.coli and Salmonella enterica for weeks 4 through 6, but not at weeks 1 and 3, respectively. Consequently, using chemical blend additives that serve as methods to control strict environmental regulations reduced pathogens in poultry litter.

In this study, we reported the effect of porcine pancreas lipase treatment in the presence of a calcium chloride and Triton X-100 on moisture regain and wettability of PET fabrics. The moisture regain of PET fabrics in the presence of 0.5% surfactant showed a 1.5-fold decrease, compared to the absence of it. Triton X-100 acted as an inhibitor to porcine pancreas lipase hydrolytic activity. The moisture regain and wettability of porcine pancreas lipase treated PET fabrics improved when more than 10mM of calcium chloride was added to the treatment solution. Porcine pancreas lipase treatment caused voids and cracks on PET fabrics.

Using alkali treatment solution, neutrality treatment solution and acid treatment solution, the surface corrosion layer of copper plates and bronze plates that have been artificially corroded using HCl, $H_2SO_4$ and $HNO_3$ solutions were removed. In the case of alkali treatment solution, only air oxidation in the form of black tenorite and white cuproous chloride remained without being removed. In the case of using a neutrality treatment solution, a anhydrous type layer of reddish brown cupric chloride remained without being removed, together with this black and white corrosion substance. In the case of using an acid treatment solution, this red corrosion substance also remained, but all of the oxide was removed on the surface of the specimen that was treated by alternatively using alkali treatment solution and acid treatment solution. In the case of this treatment solution with the order of alkali-acid, oxidation no longer proceeded only through the distilled water cleaning process after treatment, thereby showing that oxidation from the cleaning solution no longer proceeded.

Molinate, a thiolcarbamate herbicide widely used for control weeds in paddy soil, has been suspected for a possibile transportation into surface water due to its relatively high solubility in water. This study was performed to know that how much molinate could be removed during treatment processes for drinking water. The removal effciency of molinate in water was negligible in treatment process of polyaluminium chloride for coagulation. Molinate was gradually decreased up to 60.2% during contact time of 4 hours when chloride, an disinfectant used in water treatment system was treated. And in an hour treatment of ozone, molinate removal ranged $28.9%{\sim}58%$ However by treatment system of granular activated carbon, molinate was removed 93.9 to 100% at all concentrations used with a range of concentrations of granular activated carbon treated. The removal effciency of whole system simulated with removal efficiencies of molinate in each step of treatment processes was 99.5%. Therefore, if molinate happen to come into water treatment facilities, it could be removed effectively through the treatment processes.
Waste aluminum dross was processed to prepare alum with sulfuric acid, and poly aluminum chloride(PAC) with hydrochloric acid. Metallic aluminum remained in the waste dross was dissolved into the sulfuric acid solution, and the solution could be used as alum for water treatment chemicals after adjusting the required alumina concentration and pH of the solution. Also, it was dissolved into the hydrochloric acid solution and processed to make PAC solution. Compared with the conventional method for preparation of alum and PAC using aluminum hydroxide, material cost could be saved in this method. Also, there is an additional merit in view of recycling of the waste aluminum dross by reducing the amount of waste disposed to landfill.
