Determination of several cationic surfactants in cosmetics has been investigated. Reverse phase ion pair chromatography was used to identify and quantitate cationic surfactants. Cationic surfactants analyzed in this experiment were cetylpyridium chloride, stearyltrimetylammonium chloride, bezalkonium chloride, benzyldicethylcetylammonium chloride, and bihenyltrimethyl ammonium chloride. The separation was achieved on a reverse phase coumn with 10mM HCl-acetonitrile eluent. In this condition, the most of cationic surfactants with exception of CPC and CTAC respectively with suppressed conductivity detector and UV detector connected in series. The calibration curves obtained by plotting the peak areas of the cationic surfactants were linear at levels ranging from 0.005 to 0.1% correlation coefficient, r=0.9988. The detection limits were 1 to 5ppm in sample solution. The average recoveries of cationic surfactants added to hair treatment cream and hair rinse in three to five experiments were 96.7 105.2% and relative standard deviations were 1.1-3.8%. The case that there were CPC and CTAC in same solution was also tested. CPC and CTAC which couldn't be separated on reverse phase column were quantitated with suppressed conductivity detector and UV detector connected in series. Recovery of CPC and CTAC were 101.6 and 89.2% respectively. The proposed method was applied to the determination of cationic surfactants in commercial hair treatment cream.
Objective of this Research was to determine the influence of foliar application of $CaCl_2$ or $K_2SI_2O_5$ and soil application of $CaCO_3$ or $SiO_2$ on growth and cut flower quality of Zantedeschia aethiopica 'Wedding March'. To achieve this, $CaCl_2$ or $K_2SI_2O_5$ were applied at six leaf stage with the concentration of 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2% and $CaCO_3$ or $SiO_2$ were applied as basal fertilization with the amount of 100, 200, 400kg per 10a or 50, 100, 200, 400kg per 10a respectively. Plant material was used Zantedeschia aethiopica 'Wedding March'. Among calcium chloride($CaCl_2$) and calcium carbonate($CaCO_3$), calcium chloride foliar application was more effective than calcium carbonate with basal fertilization to growth of common calla 'Wedding March'. In the 0.1% solution foliar application of calcium chloride, plant height, leaf length and length of cut-flower was more longer than control. Length of leaf petiole was more longer and leaf fresh weight was more heavier than control. The degree of petiole hardness was more effective in the 0.1% solution calcium chloride foliar application than any other treatment. In the silicate fertilization treatment, plant height of 50kg per 10a treatment was most highest as 73.9cm. also its length of leaf petiole and leaf fresh weight was more effective than any other treatment. The hardness of petiole was better in the 50kg per 10a silicate fertilizer treatment. The cell shape of leaf petiole was round and tissue was regular in the treatment of 0.1% calcium chloride and 50kg per 10a silicate fertilizer but the cell of control was irregular round type. Macro element content of calcium was more amount in the treatment of silicate 50kg per 10a basal fertilization. The infected ratio of Erwinia was no relation with lime and silicate fertilizer treatment. Lime fertilizer treatment is effective for growth and flowering of Calla than silicate fertilizer and the suitable concentration was 0.1%.
Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) has been used for the only edible oil in Korea. We carried out the field experiment in order to investigate the possibly combined effects of mepiquat chloride (MC) and trinexapac-ethyl (TE) on oil composition, lignan content, seed yield and endogenous gibberellins content of flax cultivar. Plant growth retardants mepiquat chloride (300 and 600 ppm) and trinexapac-ethyl (100, 200 and 300 ppm) were foliar-sprayed to flax plant at 50days after seeding. The plant height was decreased in the combination of mepiquat chloride 600 ppm with trinexapac-ethyl 100, 200 and 300 ppm. Mepiquat chloride treatment combined with trinexapac-ethyl observed the highest response on seed yield, followed by mepiquat chloride 300 ppm with trinexapac-ethyl 100 ppm, mepiquat chloride 300 ppm with trinexapac-ethyl 200 ppm and mepiquat chloride 300 ppm with trinexapac-ethyl 300 ppm. Lignan content was increased in all of the combination treatments. It concludes that the combination of mepiquat chloride 300 ppm with trinexapac-ethyl 300 ppm will be useful to increasing oil and lignan content in flax plants.

Contamination of soil by deicing salt is among the important environment problems due to their toxicity and negative impact to human health and the environment. One of the effective methods for cleaning the soil from deicing salts is desalination using soil amendment-phytoremediation continuum treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine how much of the pH, EC control and Ca2+, Na+, Mg2+, and K+ taken up soil amendments and Miscanthus sinensis, and to evaluate the effect of salt reduction and growth improvement as affected by soil amendment in high concentration of calcium chloride (CaCl2) deicing salts. Results indicated that the addition of soil amendments was decrease the EC and pH, also significantly reduce the leaching of Ca2+, Na+, Mg2+, K+, a chloride ions related deicing salts, compared to the control for CaCl2 10 g/L treatment. It also resulted in an enhanced plant growth and higher plant height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaves, fresh weight and dry weight in Hydroball treatment + Miscanthus sinensis planting continuum treatment compared to the treatment that planted Miscanthus sinensis only. Therefore, we concluded that soil amendments might be attributed to an accumulation of deicing slats in the roadside soil, resulting in the improvement of Miscanthus sinensis growth.
Germination and early elongation of rice after germination were investigated in anoxic air treatment, nitric oxide gas treatment, and six concentrations of mercuric chloride solutions to determine the effects of limited oxygen environment, nitric oxide, and inhibited water flux through cell membrane in $17^{\circ}C$. Anoxic air treatment affected germination of tested six varieties very little. However root elongation rates were severely inhibited while shoot growth was affected less. Reductions in shoot and root elongations demonstrated genotypic variations. Nitric oxide delayed the germination of rice even though it didn't affect the final percent germination. Elongations of root and shoot were inhibited in nitric oxide treatment. The inhibitor effect of nitric oxide on the shoot elongation of rice was less severe, while nitric oxide completely inhibited the root emergence of rice. Concentrations of $HgCl_2$ greater than $300{\mu}M$ dramatically reduced the rate and percentage of germination when compared to distilled water treatment. The reduced percent germination showed the greatest variation among rice varieties in $500{\mu}M$ solution of mercuric chloride. Ansanbyeo, Jinheung, and Odaebyeo were affected less by $HgCl_2$, Nonganbyeo and Sangmibyeo were intermediate, and the germination of Andabyeo was greatly reduced by $HgCl_2$. Root elongation of germinated rice seedlings was more sensitive to oxygen deficits, nitric oxide, and $HgCl_2$ treatments than germination and shoot elongation. In conclusion, poor seedling establishment of rice sown in flooded paddy soils, in which the oxygen supply to the seeds is restricted, appears to the result of limited root elongation rate.

Anthracnose of papaya fruit caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is one of the most economically important postharvest diseases. Hot water immersion (HW) and calcium chloride (Ca) treatments have been used to control papaya postharvest diseases; however, the effect of the combination HW-Ca on the pathogen growth and the development of the disease in infected papaya fruit has been scarcely studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the HW-Ca treatment on the in vitro growth of C. gloesporioides conidia and the quality of infected papaya. In vitro, the HW-Ca treated conidia showed reduced mycelial growth and germination. In vivo, the HW-Ca treatment of infected papaya delayed for 5 days the onset of the anthracnose symptoms and improved the papaya postharvest quality. The combined treatment HW-Ca was better than any of the individual treatments to inhibit the in vitro development of C. gloeosporioides and to reduce the negative effects of papaya anthracnose.
Hydroxyapatite (HAP) containing hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) as a cationic surfactant was prepared by a precipitation method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and micropore physisorption analyzer were used for characterizing the crystal phase, morphology and specific surface area of HAP and CTAC-HAP. After thermal treatment, the specific surface area of both pure HAP and CTAC-HAP were reduced. The sharp rod morphology of CTAC-HAP was changed into a round shape with a smaller aspect ratio after the heat treatment. The morphological change by thermal treatment was also observed in pure HAP. Therefore, the morphological change and decrease of the specific surface area suggested that pores from the removal of CTAC during thermal treatment were not retained.
This study was designed to investigate the antibody production to sheep red blood cells(SRBC) and proliferation of mitogen-stimulated spleen cells in Balb/c mice which received cadmium chloride. The mice were divided into three independent groups which were one control and two experimental groups by the cadmium treatment or not. No specific treatment was done for the control group. One of two experimental groups, which is called 'pre-treatment group' in this paper, was subcutaneously injected with low dose of cadmium chloride(0.5 mg/kg/day) for 5 consecutive days before the primary SRBC immunization. The other called 'non-pretreatment group' was only pretreated with normal saline. Both experimental groups were intraperitoneally injected with high dose of cadmium chloride(5 mg/kg) 8 hours before the primary immunization. Mice were intraperitoneally immunized twice with 2% SRBC suspension containing $10^8$ cells. The results obtained were as follows, 1. The PFG responses to SRBC were significantly increased in two experimental groups, cadmium pretreatment and non-pretreatment compared with that of control group(p<0.05). 2. The total antibody titers to SRBC in cadmium treated groups were similar to that of control group, but titers of IgG antibody were significantly elevated(p<0.01). 3. The proliferation response of spleen lymphocytes to various mitogens was suppressed in proportion to the concentration of cadmium and the degree of cadmium accumulation in liver was increased in the cadmium treated groups. These results suggest that cadmium chloride could affect on mouse immune response, especially its cell mediated immune response could be decreased while its humoral immune response could be increased, which may not be influenced by the administration methods or pretreatment of cadmium to mouse.
The present study concerns quantitative assessment of chloride extraction, repassivation and structural behavior of concrete. Concrete specimen ($160{\times}160{\times}1000mm$) was fabricated with 3 steel bar located in the middle with 20 mm of the cover depth, containing 5.0% of chloride to accelerate corrosion process, then to be subjected to electrochemical treatment. The current density accounted for $750mA/m^2$ at 2, 4 and 8 weeks. As a result, it was found that an increase in the duration of the treatment resulted in an increase in the chloride extraction, accounting for 64.7-83.7% for the specimen at 8 weeks treatment. It implies that a portion of bound chlorides would turn free to be removed, considering the binding capacity of cement about 50-60% to total ones. Even after the treatment, the corrosion was still active; the corrosion rate was $6.5mA/m^2$ and 330 mV vs. SCE in the potential. For structural behavior, the maximum load was increased by corrosion on the steel bars, which was subsequently lowered by the treatment, but still higher than for control.
Cobalt chloride ($CoCl_2$) treatment of cells in vitro has been shown to induce cellular changes that are similar to those seen following hypoxia. To identify genes that are differentially expressed in response to treatment with $CoCl_2$, we compared the mRNA expression profiles of PC-3 cells that were treated with $CoCl_2$ with those of untreated PC-3 cells, using specific arbitrary primers and two anchored oligo(dT) primers provided in the ACP-based GeneFishing kits. The results of this study demonstrated that the puromycin-sensitive aminopeptidase (PSA) gene was down regulated in PC-3 cells that were treated with $CoCl_2$. This downregulation of PSA expression, in turn, suppressed the proliferation, migration, and invasion of PC-3 cells, as well as the secretion and expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9).
