This study was conducted to obtain data and offer advice regarding dietary intake at kindergarten and to recommend dietary habits to prevent childhood obesity. The study was conducted in 85 children aged 4 to 5 years. Body weight and height, dietary intakes of lunch served at Kindergarten and questionnaires for dietary behaviors in Kyeongnam area were studied. All subjects were classified by their weight-length index (WLI). According to the standard WLI values, 41.2% of the children were within the normal value ($90{\leq}$WLI<110), 23.5% of the children were overweight ($110{\leq}$WLI<120), and 35.3% of the children were obese ($WLI{\geq}120$). The mean energy intake at lunch for kindergarteners was $287.1{\pm}13.4$ kcal in the normal group, $307.6{\pm}10.2$ kcal in the overweight group and $323.7{\pm}8.6$ kcal in the obese group. The percent energy of estimated energy requirement (EER) was 21.8%. The intake of protein, iron, zinc, vitamin A, and pyridoxine were significantly different by WLI (P<0.05). A comparison of nutrients in the lunch menu provided with those of 1/3 recommended intake (RI) showed that preschoolers took in fewer calories, calcium, and vitamin $B_2$, and that their deficiency rates were high (81.2%, 76.5% and 70.6% of recommended levels, respectively). There was a significant difference in the preference of fruits and milk and dairy products by WLI. Therefore, a nutritional education program and new guidance in the proper nutrition management for kindergarteners should be developed to enhance nutritional status during childhood.
This study examines 17 ex-offenders' wives who is receiving housing support from the Korea Rehabilitation Agency to understood the difficulties child-rearing experiences with the grounded theory. Based upon the research outcomes, supporting that needs for prisoners' wives who feel a huge burden on taking care of infants and preschool children by themselves was discussed. The prisoners' wives with children at school age and initial/middle adolescent need to get strong support due to not only the shock about husbands in prison but also the burden and stress that should follow the role as parents of students. Those late adolescent/adulthood who were supposed to follow their dreams, were required for their financial and emotional sacrifice. Result indicates children need to get support to form the right identity, not to get exhausted or shrink from being stigmatized and prejudiced as children of released prisoners.

This study investigated material the type(sewn-in stamped-on etc) of the label and its placement(location on the product) on children's clothing in order to survey consumer complaints to suggest the improvement. The data were collected from label-producing companies by surveying children's clothing displayed at department store as well as by questionnaire to 205 consumers who were mothers of preschool children. The results were as follows : 1. 100% polyester was the most used raw material for brand labels and nylon was for care labels. 2. Most brand labels were one piece labels and located inside the back of neck line by sewn-in either on the top on each sides or on all four sides, Care labels were usually sewn-in on the inside of left-side seam line. The texture of care label was softer than that of brand label and two pieces of care labels were widely used, 3. 67.3% of consumers complained of its stiffness while 36.1% of consumers complained of rough surface and edge 85.4% of consumers complained of an itch caused by brand labels and claimed to detach labels. For care labels 36.6% expressed displeasure of stiffness of labels while 39% complained of annoyance due to too many pieces of labels. 4. Major suggestions from the consumers were change of raw materials and relocation of brand labels. For the care labels changes of material form and type of labels were suggested and one piece of label and smaller size were preferable.
This study investigated parents' attitude about children's unbalanced diet. The subjects were 1,309 parents that their children attended at kindergarten or child care center in Kyoung-Ki province. The order of dislikes in 'vegetables and fruits' was as follows: all kinds of vegetables (56.6%), beans (17.6%), fruits (5.2%). In 'meat, fish, poultry', the order of dislikes was meats (38.2%), fishes (21.8%), milk (16.4%), eggs (10.0%). In 'cerelas', the order of dislikes was rice (31.0%), rice cakes (14.3%), noodles (11.9%). The several rationalizations for dislikes are 'taste' (19.1 %), 'food habit from younger age' (18.4%), 'lack of chances for trying new food' (16.0%) etc. To compared children's rationalizations for dislikes to their age group, the percentage of 'lack of chances for trying new food', 'strange food shape', 'lack of nutrition education' was significantly higher in 'below 5 years old' (<5) group than other groups (<6, <7) and 'sweety food' was significantly higher in 'below 7 years old' (<7) group than other groups (<6, <7)(p <0.05). In parents' attitude about children's unbalanced dietary habit, subjects answered that they try to make children understand to eat dislike food (73.9%), develop new recipe for children (14.0%), neglect children's food habit (6.2%). To compared parents' attitude for children's unbalanced diet by parents age, the percentage of 'try to make children understand to eat dislike food' was significantly higher in 'below 30 years old' (<30) group than other groups ($30{\sim}35,\;35{\sim}39,\;{\geq}40$) and 'developing new recipe' was significantly higher in 'over 40 years old' (${\geq}40$) group than other groups ($<30,\;30{\sim}35,\;35{\sim}39$)(p < 0.05). To compared parents' attitude for children's unbalanced diet by parents' occupation, the percentage of 'neglecting' was higher in employed group and 'developing new recipe' was higher in unemployed group than the other group. According to the results of the survey, it is necessary to make new educational materials for employed parents and young children and develop new recipes to use various kind of foods instead of forcing unpleasant foods on the children for the sake of unbalanced diet.
1. Recognition of subjects on oral health education, About the question if they know oral health education, those who said yes were 241(70.7%) and those who said no were 100(29.3%). The perception of subjects on oral health education, About the question if they executed oral health education in a kindergarten or a nursery, 254(74.5%) said yes and 87(25.5%) said no. And, about the question if they have ever executed oral health education out of a kindergarten or a nursery, 70(20.5%) said yes and 271(79.5%) said no. 3. Subjects' oral health behaviors and attitudes toward children, About the question if they have ever visited a dental office, 249(73.0%) said yes and 92(27.0%) said no. And, about the question if they watch their children's toothbrushing, 321(94.1%) said yes and 20(5.9%) said no. About the question if they examine if their children have decayed teeth, 213(62.5%) said yes and 128(37.5%) said no. And, about the question if they are interested in their children's oral health, 244(71.6%) said yes and 97(28.4%) said no. 4. It appeared that unemployed mothers executed oral health education to their children more compared with employed mothers(p < .01). 5. Execution of oral health education according to the recognition of oral health education and previous experiences of subjects, The execution of oral health education according to the recognition of oral health education was statistically significant(p < .001). 6. Execution of oral health education according to the subjects' oral health behaviors and attitudes toward children. The execution of oral health education according to the experience of visiting a dental office, watching children's toothbrushing and watching children's teeth was statistically significant(p < .01, p < .001).
This study aims to look for care quality factors reduce the daily stress of young children placed in care centers for long hours. Therefore, the research questions look into how the hours and care quality factors in child care centers affect young children's daily stress, and whether the care quality factor moderates the impact of the hours children spent in centers. The subjects in this study were 380 children from 3 to 5 years old from 10 child care centers. The Korean Preschool Daily Stress Scale(KPDSS) for children's daily stress and Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale-Revised(ECERS-R) for quality of each classroom of centers were implemented. The main findings were summarized as following: (1) The more hours he/she spent in the center, the more stress he/she had. Children who spent 9 hours or more had more stress than children with 7 hours or less. (2) Among the 7 quality factors including space and furnishings, personal care routines, language reasoning, activities, interaction, program structure, parents staff, the interaction level between a teacher and a child and the level of parents and staff had the most impact on children's daily stress. (3) The qualitative factors of child care, language reasoning level, interaction level, parental support, and level of teachers reduced children's daily stress which was affected by the hours they spent in centers. Thus in order to reduce the daily stress of children who attend more than 9 hours a day, it is crucial to promote language reasoning activities and interaction between teachers and children and to improve parental support and teachers' professionalism.
Epidemiological studies on the reinfetion pattern of Ascaris lumbricoides were undertaken by means of blanket mass chemotherapy and worm collection in a rural village in Korea, during 1977~1980. The study objectives were to determine the age (sex)-specific reinfection rate during 2, 4, 6 and 12 months through repeated mass chemotherapy with pyrantel pamoate, and to observe the familial aggregation tendency of the reinfected cases. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The age (sex)-reinfection curve revealed that the reinfection rate is much higher in younger individuals than in olders in all of 4 kinds of interval chemotherapy groups. The highest reinfection rate and the highest burden of reinfected worms were observed in preschool children, followed by primary school students. Such fluctuation in the age-specific reinfection rates was more pronounced in males than in females. 2. There was noted a significant tendency of familial aggregation among the reinfected cases. It is suggested that reinfection occurs never randomly but preferably to the members of certain household families. From these reinfection analyses, it is inferred that the principal mode of A. lumbricoides transmiSSIOn in the surveyed rural area is likely to be of 'dooryard type', in which case children and certain family members are more preferably reinfected. It is also suggested that the preschool children should be included in the primary targets of mass control programme.

Objective : This study aimed to create a Korea translation of the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI) and to then test the adapted version for construct validity. Methods : The translation and content validation process were conducted in accordance with a four-step process, namely translation, integration, content validity examination, and backward translation. The construct validity of the translated version was evaluated using the EASI for children aged 3~12 years with and without sensory integration problems, comparing the two groups as well as preschool and school-aged groups. The group comparison was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test in SPSS. Results : In terms of content validity, all 20 items averaged more than 3.17 points. Of the four EASI categories, there was a difference in Sensory Perception (p=0.044) between the typical and sensory integration groups, and there was a statistical difference between tactile and vestibular sensations. Between the preschool and school-aged children, statistical difference was observed in two categories, namely Praxis and Ocular-Postural-Bilateral Motor Integration. Conclusion : Based on its construct validity, the Korean version of EASI is suitable for use in research. The construct validity study highlighted items that explain differences between typical and diagnostic children and items that explain those differences by age. Our findings could therefore be considered when interpreting EASI results.
