  • In this study, the picture book reviews shown in Korean periodicals were analyzed to provide the developmental foundation for picture book reviews and expand the professional area of librarians as the producers of book review. Through the literature research and the Delphi Technique the desirable standard of book reviews was suggested, the contents in domestic book review mediums were analyzed for the rightness of describing based on the standard of the book review and henceforward the way of development was suggested. The result from analysis of book review showed that the outstanding book reviews should be more produced based on the desirable standard of book review and the evaluative statements should be developed more than the descriptive statements. Depending on the mediums the contents of the book review were different by the book reviewers' occupations, so the book reviewers should develop their professional knowledges in literature and art. Because the longer book review made the outstanding book review with the rightness of the desirable standard of book review, the certain quantity of book review should be needed and the role of librarians as the book reviewers should be further extended.

The subjects were 78 children 4 to 5 years of age in Seoul. Instruments were the researcher's revised form of the Story Construction from a Picture Book, TRSR (Teachers' Ratings of Students' Reading) designed by van Kraayenoord & Paris (1996), and the revised form of the WLAT (Written Language Awareness Test, Kim, 1995). The findings showed that (1) the story construction total scores were significantly correlated with WALT scores and the subcategory scores were intercorrelated with each other. (2) The story construction total scores differed by age, and (3) the 2 phase scores were higher than the 1 phase scores.

  • "Gup Yu Bang" is the first Korean book that specialized in pediatrics. It was written by Jo Jeong-jun on the 25th year of King Young Jo in the Choson dynasty. He quoted a lot of information from "Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun" by Yi-cheon in the Myung dynasty and "Xiao Er Yao Zheag Zhi Jue" by Qian Yi in the Song dynasty, but he added his own opinions and clinical experiences to the book. In addition to that, the book explains not only symptoms and prescriptions but also the etiology and pathology of children's diseases. In particular, he showed a great deal of creativity in his book called "Dong Bang Six Fu's Qi Principle" After studying "Gup Yu Bang", I have drawn the following conclusions. 1. Prevention is more important than treatment in pediatrics. 2. When we make a diagnosis, facial inspection has priority. 3. In terms of treatmemt, Wu zang is a general rule. Therefore, we should focus on Wu zang and Pi Wei. 4. The following terms definition symptom cause prescription clinical example prevention are to be explained with reference to the nature or symptoms of the disease. 5. We can see that smallpox was more widspread than the measles in the period of King Young Jo. 6. Even though he was influenced by "Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun", "Xiao Er Yao Zheag Zhi Jue", and "Dong eui bo gam", his own explanation is clearer in his book called "Gup Yu Bang" which is based on his own clinical experiences. 7. "Gup Yu Bang" is a practical and experiential book.
