A Study on the Intergenerational transmission of the Family Violence: the Relationship between the Parental Violent Behavior and Child's Aggression (가족 폭력의 세대간 전이에 관한 연구: 부모의 폭력 행동과 아동의 공격성 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the intergenerational transmission of the family violence. The focus of the study is on the effect of the parental violent behavior on the child's aggression. For this purpose, 266 6th grade children in Seoul are classified into the two groups according to their aggression rated by their teachers. The results are as follow: 1. There are social class differences in the level of the child's aggression, experience of parent-to-child violence and parental marital violence. 2. Experiencing parent-to-child violence and parental marital violence greately affected the level of the child's aggression. The effects are greater for the children who observed parental marital violence than who experienced child violence. 3. Father-to-mother violence rather than mother-to-father violence affected the level of the child's aggression, especially for the boys.

  • This study examined the intergenerational transmission of family violence. The main focus of this study was on the effect of an experience of childhood violence and the witnessing of interparental violence on the future spouse and child violence. Two hundred and forty-two married couples and 50 married couples with indicted husbands and their wives were surveyed. The results showed that Husbands who had experienced childhood violence from their father and witnessed their father's violence towards their mother tended to inflict more physical violence on their wives than those who did not experience such events. Wives who witnessed violence between both parents' tended to receive more physical violence from their husbands than those who did not witness such events. In addition, wives who did not experience childhood violence but at the same time witnessed interparental violence tended to receive more physical violence from their husbands than those who did not witness such events. Husbands who experienced childhood violence from their mother and both parents and husbands who witnessed their father's violence toward their mother tended to be more violent towards their children than those who did not experience such events. Wives who experienced childhood violence from their mother and father and wives who witnessed violence between both parents tended to be more violent towards their children than those who did not experience such events. These results partially support that the transmission of family violence across generations and show the differential effects of gender and the violent parent's gender on family violence.

Child abuse, violences in school and childrens adjustment (아동학대 및 학교에서의 폭력경험과 아동의 적응)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of child abuse, teachers violence, and peer victimization on childrens adjustment. The 451 subjects(238 boys and 213 girls) were selected from the 5th graders of elementary schools and 2nd graders of middle schools in Pohang City. The subjects reported child abuse, teachers violence, victimization by peers, self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, Cronbach $\alpha$, t-test, and multiple regression. The main findings of this study were as follows: (1) Boys were more focused on physical.emotional abuse, physical.verbal victimization, and physical violence by teacher than girls. (2) Elementary school students were more focused on violence by teacher and peers than middle school students. (3) Influences of child abuse, teachers violence, and peer victimization on childrens self-esteem, depression, and anxiety had difference among subtypes of child abuse, teachers violence, and peer victimization.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how adolescent children's exposure experience of domestic violence influences their psycho-social maladjustment. The SPSS 10.0 for Windows was used to analyze data obtained through 589 adolescents who attend middle school in Gwangju area. Major findings are as follows: 1. Domestic violence exposure in adolescent children was considerably serious; 84.4% child abuse by parents, 66.0% witness of father-to-mother abuse. 2. Child abuse and wife abuse had close relation in occurrence and severity. 3. Internalizing problems, externalizing problems, and social competence of adolescents were different by the victim of child abuse, the witness of wife abuse, and the style of domestic violence exposure. 4. Domestic violence exposure had a positive impact on the adolescent children's psycho-social maladjustment.

The Influence of Marital Conflict on Child Abuse (부부갈등이 자녀학대에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the study is to examine the realities of the child abuse, to analyze the relation between marital conflict and child abuse, and to screen their causes. For the data set 521 elementary school children and mothers living in pusan were chosen. The data were analyzed with the SPSS statistical package using $X^2$, the one-way ANOVA. the factor analysis, and the path analysis. The main results are as follows. Frist, in most of families there are child abuse. Second, among family environmental variables, the father's dissatisfaction with job, the family's social-economic status, violence observation, violence experience influence the child abuse. Third, marital conflict influences marital violence and child abuse, marital violence influences child abuse.

Empathy, Awareness and Attitudes toward Violence among Elementary School Students (초등학생의 공감 정도와 폭력에 대한 인식 및 태도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate empathy, awareness, and attitudes toward violence among elementary school students. Methods: The participants were 195 fifth and sixth grade students in Y elementary school. The data collection period was from June 24 to July 4, 2019. Results: Empathy scores significantly differed according to participants' gender and need for education on violence prevention. Attitudes towards violence (permissive and neglectful) significantly differed according to students' grade and need for education on violence prevention. Empathy was negatively correlated with permissive attitudes toward violence (r=-.26, p<.001) and neglectful attitudes toward violence (r=-.24, p=.001). Conclusion: The results of this study are expected to be utilized as basic data for education on violence prevention through empathy.

  • This study examine the effects of exposure to family violence on adolescent's school violence toward peers and whether attitude toward school violence mediate in the process to provide theoretical basis for prevention and treatment for the problems of adolescent who exposed to child abuse and interparental violence. Total 1140 adolescent answered were collected from and grade in middle school students to and grade in high school students in Seoul and Kyung-gi. Frequency analysis was done to assess the actual condition of school violence, child abuse, interparental violence, attitude toward school violence. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the effects of exposure to family violence on adolescent's school violence and the mediating role of attitude toward school violence in the process. The results of this study are: (1) exposure of child abuse have strong positive influences on adolescent's school violence, (2) attitude toward school violence mediate family violence and school violence.

  • In a divorced family, child-centered custody evaluation is essential to ensure the child's best interests and healthy adaptation. A mental health professional's role and involvement are required in gaining an in-depth understanding of various environments and dynamics surrounding the child and family. Domestic violence, including child abuse and intimate partner violence (IPV) or parental alienation syndrome (PAS), is often observed in cases of custody evaluation in high-conflict divorced families, sometimes accompanied by allegations. Such cases warrant an extremely careful approach by the evaluator, who needs to be competent in interpreting the familial dynamics based on a reasonable context understanding. Genuine professionalism is a must for a custody evaluator to best help the child and carry out a high-quality custody evaluation process, and evaluators need to be ready for this task through adequate preparation and empowerment. This article is devoted to examining custody evaluation in divorced families in cases of IPV, child abuse, and PAS.

The Development of a CD-ROM and an Educational Program for the Prevention Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence in Preschool Children (성희롱/성폭력 예방교육 프로그램 및 CD-ROM개발 - 유아(3~6세)용 -)

  • This study was to developed to create a CD-ROM and an educational program for the prevention of sexual harassment and violence and to contribute to the perception and add to the coping of the victims of sexual harassment and violence as well as the child, parents, and teachers. Method: The study's methods were literature reviews, surveys, and assessments of the negotiation process for educational needs of sexual harassed and abused children. Result: The sexual harassment and violence prevention program will contain four subjects : 1) sexual development of a preschool child, 2) characteristics of sexual harassment and violence of a preschool child, 3) safe sex, early detection of sexual violence syndrome, and coping strategies. The CD-RON was composed from three sites. The first was a child site, the second was a parent/teacher site, and the third was a game site for evaluations. The child site consisted of 10 possible scenarios of sexual harassment and violence that a child could experience. The parent/teacher site consisted of knowledge and information for prevention and coping strategies for sexual harassment and violence. At the end of each situation question and answer sections that were used for formative evaluation. Also, the game site could be a summative evaluation. Conclusion: The effects of this program and the CD-ROM were based of the promotion of reverence for humanity and gender equality for preschool childen. Eventually, children, parents, and teachers will have prevention and coping ability that will reduce the occurrence of sexual harassment and violence in Korea
