The study examined whether small group filial therapy for maladjusted young children and their mothers would improve children's interpersonal relationships. Two mother-child pairs participated in the program consisting 12 group parent education sessions by a therapist and 6 sessions of supervised play therapy. All 18 sessions ran 85-90 minutes once a week. Results showed positive changes on initiated interactions, co-play, emotional closeness and manifest joy in mother-child play interactions. Scores of playfulness rated by two trained observers during weekly group play time for the children showed improvement in terms of physical, social, and cognitive spontaneity, manifest joy and humor. Quality of children's interpersonal relationships in routine life of home and preschool was enhanced according to reports of mothers and preschool teachers.
This study compared children's daily activities In the preschools of middle-and lower-income communities. 22 children, evenly divided by community and children's gender, were observed for 3 hours on 5 consecutive days. The observers followed the target child, gathering data during 30-second "windows" every 4 1/2 minutes. A total of 750 observations were used in the analyses. The findings show the variation in children's activities as a function of community differences. In the case of academic activities, children of middle-income community were more exposed to and engaged in play with academic objects more than children of the of low-income community. A reverse tendency, however, was found in academic lessons. Children of low-income community were more exposed to work than their counterparts. Children of middle-income community were engaged in child-adult conversation more than those of low-income community. In addition, children of the middle-income community initiated their involvement in play and conversation more than their counterparts, though no difference was found in children's initiation of activities.
This case study investigated the assessment and treatment of bilingual children using a 4.5 year old bilingual child. We also compared treatment methods for bilingual children in the U.S. and in Korea, respectively. Given the lack of unbiased assessment tools, it was difficult to evaluate the child properly. In addition, the study of the linguistic characteristics of bilingual children have not been researched extensively in Korea. As a result, there were limitations in assessing the child. However, once all requisite information had been gathered, he was assessed as a bilingual child with specific language impairment (SLI) and his skill in both languages was considered equivalent. During treatment sessions, the child exhibited diverse linguistic characteristics and interesting error patterns which were not evident in monolingual SLI. However, it was difficult to assess whether the error patterns exhibited by the subject were attributable to his own bilingual characteristics or not. This was further complicated by the lack of previous research on the bilingual child's linguistic characteristics. His progress differed from one area to another. Furthermore, we illustrated some of the limitations in assessing bilingual children and proposed several considerations that should be met before treatment is initiated.
This ethnography explored, the emergent writing and literacy of two-year-old children in classroom. The specific purpose of the study focuses on toddler's text appropriation from text environment and on social interaction between teachers and toddlers. The result showed that toddlers appropriated writing signs or words from their own text-environment and used it as the instrument for social interaction and communication. Specifically, they initiated social interaction by giving messages of their appropriated signs to adults as teachers, who were easily capable of communication. This led to all toddlers' involvement in message exchange in the classroom. Toddlers' marks of scribbles were also consisted of different kinds of lines and circles. Those marks have different meaning and. symbolic systems: drawing and writing graphics. Even though drawing and writing graphics developed as different symbol systems in toddlers' marks, each system helped to extend each other.
Two hundred and sixty-six mothers with preschool and primary school children filled out TV diaries for three days around the TV turning-off campaign day initiated by YMCA. TV diaries were designed to record the TV programs watched by family members as well as the focused child's activities every 15 min. 121 families participated in the campaign voluntarily and 145 families served as the control group. The campaign group watched less than the control group even before the campaign day and differed in several family backgrounds primarily due to the difference of family members' ages in both groups. Despite participating in the campaign, 53.9% of the families among the campaign group watched TV and 35.5% of the children in these families watched TV on the campaign day. TV watching time measured by the questionnaire was significantly higher than the estimates by diary method. Participating children in the campaign increased in activities such as reading, indoor play, as well as video watching. In the campaign group, TV watching time on the next day of the campaign increased slightly than the day before it. Preschool and primary school children's activities as well as the watched TV programs were analyzed separately for two groups. In addition, total TV on-time and coviewing patterns by the focused child with the family members were analyzed in relation to the child's other TV watching patterns as well as their related variables.

The purpose of this study is to research support systems of the community child care services for optimum work-family balance. For this purpose, the questionnaire to be completed combined four areas: the workplace, school, community and home. Then questions concerning demographic factors and community-related aspects were analysed for this article. After analyzing 197 questionnaires, supplementary questions were asked, by interview to 10 samples. Full-time working wives (eg. working from 9am to 6pm) who have 1 or more children under 10 years old, living in Seoul and Gyeonggi province were collected as samples. The results were as follows: First, child care from family and relatives, and community services was properly used during the week, but dual working parents took complete charge of child care on Saturdays. Second, emergency child care was usually provided by the family, while relatives and community child care services were used less. Third, parents spent 17% of their monthly income on total child care expenditure. Fourth, community child care services were not used often, but the level of satisfaction with them was very high. Finally, they used relatives' services for safety reasons and community services for location, and only based on informed decisions. Therefore, Saturday child care programmes need to be initiated to help physically and mentally tired parents, with more general provision of positive and diverse public support systems.
In this study, the problem of child care gaps has arisen due to the expansion of women's entry into the workforce and the increase in working couples, and the care cliff phenomenon after children enter elementary school has been identified as one of the causes of women's career disconnection and low birth rates, and child care services have been initiated to solve care problems and balance work and family. The importance of childcare services to the safety and well-being of children has been highlighted by the restrictions on school attendance and the absence of caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The government has been making policy efforts to reduce the gap in child care, but problems with the effectiveness and efficiency of the child care system have arisen due to unstable target selection and delivery systems by ministries and projects in the implementation of child care services. Therefore, this study examines the child care services implemented by each ministry to reduce the blind spots of after-school care services in the community and prepare efficient operation plans for various delivery systems, and seeks directions for the development of child care services.
Taking the perspective of children's welfare, this study aimed at critically analyzing the system of notification disposition which institutionalized children have experienced. Notification disposition is a juvenile justice process that, when a child (10 th 18 years old ) has been delinquent or is at risk for delinquency, is initiated without investigation or prosecution procedures by direct notification to a judge from the caregivers, school principals, chief probation officers, or directors of child care institutions. The data used in the analysis included case records of probation offices, and court sentencing documents of juvenile protective dispositions. Results showed that notification cases were initiated by directors of child shelters/care institutions. The most common reasons of notification were theft, runaway, physical violence, drinking, and smoking. Furthermore, there were more controversial reasons, such as "bad influence on another institutionalized children", "showing no remorse", "no sense of guilt"and "challenge of rearing in institutions" Based on the results, we discussed three problematic aspects of the direct notification system by directors of childcare institutions : (1) too much reliance on the judicature judgment of juvenile court; (2) less stability of the judicial status of notified children, and (3) inadequacies of the notifying eligibility for directors of child care institutions.

This study was initiated to develop a uniform design suitable for child inpatients. The experimental hospital inpatient uniform design was developed based on the results of the prior studies. The panel was composed of 5 experienced nurses and 5 clothing specialists. They evaluated the function of the experimental inpatient uniforms developed in this study. The experimental hospital gown design was reformed based on the panel's evaluation.1'hen the child inpatients performed the wear test for the reformed experimental hospital gown. The results of the study are as follows; 1. The child inpatient hospital gown design of the most hospitals were similar to the adult patient's uniform : the V-neckline shirts with full length set-in sleeves. The bottom was full length pull-on pants. The fabric was white cotton with blue hospital logo and stripe print in most cases. 2. The panel's specialty affected the evaluation of the uniform design. The nurses concerned about the durability after washing and ease for medical treatment. The clothing specialists cared about the features related to the clothing construction and ease for physical movement of body. 3. The most preferred hospital inpatient uniform design by the panels was the shirts or one- piece gown with three-quarter length sleeve and overarm seam opening. 4. The researchers developed one-piece dress gown for the children under two years old. Three different size pajamas were developed for children 2∼5 years old,5∼8 years and 8∼12 years old.
The purpose of this ethnographic study was to observe and understand interactions of toddlers and teachers in context. Specific questions were "What are the motives and features of the interactions between toddlers and teacher?" Subjects were twenty 2-year-old daycare children and their teachers. Methods covered 11 weeks of interviews and participatory observation. The major findings were that the interactions between toddlers and teachers was mainly initiated by toddlers and consist of physiological and emotional needs, conflict mediation and participation in play. As toddler get to the age of self-recognition but still need adult's assistance, the co-existence of dependence and independence was evident. Children used a variety of verbal and non-verbal signals with both positive and non-positive overtons.
