The goal of this study was to discover factors of difficulties on learning Brønsted-Lowry acid and base focusing viewpoint of each definition. To achieve this, we were targeting statement of textbooks and perception of teachers that have a decisive effect on students' learning. Analysis of textbooks was performed for chemistry I of high school and EBS(total 6 textbooks) which dealt with Brønsted-Lowry definition. And a survey was conducted on 24 science teachers who had Brønsted-Lowry definition teaching experience. According to the textbooks analysis, characteristics of statement way were (1) statement without viewpoint of each definition, (2) convergent statement to Arrhenius. And features of teachers' perceptions were (1) teachers who have the only one viewpoint, (2) teachers with unawareness on coexisting reason of various definitions. All of these can be explained by absence from understanding viewpoints of Arrhenius and Brønsted-Lowry. To promote students' Brønsted-Lowry learning, students should obtain viewpoints of each definition. So we suggest that pre-service teacher training curriculum and statement way of textbook should reflect viewpoints of each definition.
In this study, we surveyed pre- and post-perceptions of fourteen science teachers related to the atmosphere composition of molecules with different masses by the developed test. As a result of the test, the teachers were classified into two types of thoughts; One of them is considered the atmosphere to be a homogeneous solution, and the other is a thought that the composition ratio of the atmosphere was not homogeneous considering the different weights of particles. The two types were reclassified into three categories; one of them is considering large gravity effect, another is considering small gravity effect, and the other is considering medium scale gravity effect. Total six types of thoughts were found from the pre-test. After introducing crosscutting concepts which are related to the composition of atmosphere. The teachers discussed the phenomena with the molecular motion by weights of atoms and temperature, the homogeneity of the solution of air in chemistry domain. They also discussed with the relationship between mass and gravity and distance in physics domain. And the discussion included distribution of the atmosphere, convection phenomena, etc. After the discussion, the teachers changed their pre-conceptions to post-concoctions considering combined perspectives of gravity, mass, temperature, altitude etc. Through these changes, we are able to confirm the importance of crosscutting concepts covered in various disciplines. In the integrated science, we should help teachers to provide students with these types of thinking in order to form a coherent world-view and to carry out inquiry thinking as an intellectual tool.
The purposes of this study were to examine what kinds of educational activities were carried out during the practice teaching based on CoRe and to identify the role of CoRe and its influence on the development of expertise of student teachers. This study was performed as qualitative case study. The subjects of this study were one practice supervisor teacher and two student teachers. Data were collected through recording CoRe discussion process, student teachers' instructional scene, and semi-constructed interview, and analyzed by an inductive method. Student teachers noticed their own misconceptions, and clarified the concepts based on CoRe during the discussion with supervisor teacher. They also supplemented their lack of knowledge and made up new strategies through the process of sharing their ideas. During the discussion, the supervisor teacher conveyed his teaching experience based on his own orientations toward science teaching. In this course, CoRe plays roles as follows. Firstly, CoRe played a role as guiding supervisor teacher's coaching process. Secondly, CoRe helped for the supervisor teacher to recognize their own PCK. Thirdly, CoRe served as a tool of helping their communication. In turn CoRe proved to be a useful frame for teaching student teachers during practice teaching. Student teachers were provided with a useful framework for preparing lessons by developing CoRe for the topic they teach. Developing CoRe with supervisor teacher at the planning stage of lessons enhenced student-teachers' subject matter knowledge and their PCK including knowledge of science curricula and knowledge of student's understanding of science. Also student teachers understood the components of PCK and experienced the positive understanding toward students, teaching activities, and themselves as a science teacher.

The purpose of this study was to investigate teaching anxiety and the professional development of beginning secondary science teachers. For this study, a survey was conducted among beginning science teachers (N=83) with under five years of experience, and in-depth interviews with these five teachers were carried out. The survey tackled beginning secondary science teachers' anxiety levels by asking about their difficulties in teaching science classes, and results showed that the teachers' levels of teaching anxiety marked high. Levels of teaching anxiety in physics among subjects and in chemistry among experiments marked highest. To overcome teaching anxiety, teachers searched for information on the Internet or received help from their colleagues and veteran teachers. They revealed that plans for professional development as science teachers included receiving in-service training and joining teacher communities. In addition, the best type of required training program for professional development appeared to be lectures about teaching know-how from veteran teachers.
The goal of this study was to examine the current status of science teachers’ stage of concern (SOC) and level of use (LoU) on descriptive assessment and determine the relationship between SoC and LoU. To achieve this, concerns-based adoption model (CBAM) was used, and a survey was conducted on 138 science teachers. The data from this study were analyzed by frequency analysis, percentile analysis based on CBAM, χ2 test, and Spearman correlation analysis. SoC and LoU of the science teachers observed in this study are as follows. First, the science teachers’ overall SoC for the descriptive assessment was low and showed a typical pattern of the initial stage when the program was introduced. Second, LoU analysis on descriptive assessment showed that the “mechanical Use” (N=49, 35.5%) or “routine” (N=48, 34.8%) accounted for the majority. Third, the Spearman correlation between SoC and LoU on descriptive assessment was .299(p<.01). This suggests that teachers’ SoC needs to be increased in order to promote higher LoU on descriptive assessment, which requires new alternative measures.
This study examined secondary school science teachers' thinking on physical and chemical change. For this research, we analysed the answers of 80 secondary school science teachers. According to the result of the analysis, teachers had various opinions when they classified phenomena of dissolving ionic compound or diluting acid into phys-ical change and chemical change. Many teachers tended to classify similar phenomena into different change when those were represented with different focus. It means that teachers' opinions were not consistent.

The quality of science teachers is one of the most important factors to improve the science education in secondary schools. In this study the current status of preservice education of secondary science teachers was surveyed and the directions for the improvement were suggested as follows: 1. The purposes of departments of science education have to be partially revised to include other education programs related to science education than preservice training courses of science teachers. 2. Training courses of integrated science teacher should be organized differently from those of physics, chemistry, biology or earth science teachers because their requirements are different. 3. Strict standards of curricula for training science teacher have to be established and applied practically. 4. The curricula of departments of science education have to reflect the contents and the changes of secondary science education. 5. More credits to subjects on the science education, the nature of science, and the laboratory experiments should be taken in the preservice courses of science teachers. 6. Professors at the department of science education have to use various methods to teach inquiry lab and evaluation techniques so that students can experience them at the training courses. 7. The number of professors majoring in science education at the department of sciece education should be increased. 8. Enough research funds have to be supported to activate the researches in science education.

In this study, we investigated the characteristics of elementary school teachers' self-images of science teaching by using Draw-A-Science-Teacher-Test Checklist (DASTT-C). A survey was administered to 178 elementary school teachers in Seoul, Gyeonggi province, and Gangwon Province. It was found that elementary school teachers' self-images of science teaching for four science subjects (physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science) were more 'teacher-centered' than 'student-centered'. The results may imply that elementary school teachers' beliefs of science teaching tend to be more traditional than constructive. Therefore, there is a need to develop an effective education system for pre- and in-service elementary school teachers based on constructivism.
The molecular structure of cyclobutylmethyl ketone (c-$C_4H_7COCH_3$) has been investigated by molecular mechanics II (MM2). For the monosubstituted cyclobutane there are two possible ring conformations, the equatorial and axial form, but for the cyclobutylmethyl ketone the equatorial form is predominant conformation. For the $COCH_3$ moiety there are two stable orientations which are the equatorial-gauche and the equatorial-trans form. The equatorial-gauche form where the C = O bond is nearly eclipsing (torsional angle ${\angle}C4-C3-C2-O10=14.5^{\circ}$) one of the ${\alpha}$C-C bonds of the four-membered ring was preferred conformer with steric energy of 13.37 kcal/mol. The equatorial-trans form where the C = O bond is nearly eclipsing (${\angle}C4-C3-C2-O10=145.0^{\circ}$) the ${\alpha}$ C-H bond of the four-membered ring was less stable conformer with steric energy of 15.40 kcal/mol.
Enantiomeric separation of free amino acids has been achieved by a reversed phase liquid chromatography with addition of a Cu(Ⅱ) complex of N-alkyl-L-proline (alkyl: propyl, pentyl or octyl) to the mobile phase. The amino acids eluted were detected by a postcolumn OPA system. N-alkyl-L-proline was prepared and used as a chiral ligand of Cu(Ⅱ) chelate for the enantiomeric separation. The concentration of the Cu(Ⅱ) chelate, the organic modifier and pH affect the enantiomeric separation of free amino acids. The retention behaviour, varied with change in pH and the concentration of the Cu(Ⅱ) chelate, was different compared with those of the derivatized amino acids. The elution orders between D- and L-forms were consistent except histidine showing that L-forms elute earlier than D-forms. The retention mechanism for the enantiomeric separation can be illustrated by the stereospecificity of the ligand exchange reaction and the hydrophobic interaction between the substituent of amino acids and reversed phase, $C_18$.
