Polyaniline Emeraldine salt (PANI-salt) prepared by the common chemical oxidative polymerization caused the corrosion of the metallic injection mold by protonic acid such as HCl which used as a dopant. PANI-salt, polyaniline doped with dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA), was obtained by the emulsion polymerization in nonpolar organic solvent, toluene. In this study DBSA was used as a dopant along with a surfactant. PANI-salt and high impact polystyrene (HIPS) have a good solubility in toluene. Blends with different ratio of PANI and HIPS were prepared through a solution-cast blending. The structure of PANI-salt was characterized by FT-IR and UV-Vis. The morphology, thermal, and electrical properties for PANI-HIPS blends were investigated. Injection molded under $103^{\circ}C$, 120 psi, PANI-HIPS showed the highest electrical conductivity ($6.02{\times}10^{-5}\;S/cm$) after blending PANI (50 mL) and HIPS (1 g).
Processable conducting polyaniline derivative with free amine functional groups was successfully synthesized from the monomer o-phenylenediamine in aqueous hydrochloric acid medium using ammonium persulfate as an oxidative initiator. The synthesized poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD) in critical condition was found to be completely soluble in common organic solvents like dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N-dimethyl formamide etc. From the intrinsic viscosity measurement, the optimum condition for the polymerization was established. The polymer was characterized by ultraviolet visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ($^1HNMR$) and thermogravimetric (TGA) analyses. The weight average molecular weights of the synthesized polymers were determined by the dynamic light scattering (DLS) method. From the spectroscopic analysis the structure was found to resemble that of polyaniline derivative with free amine functional groups attached to ortho/meta position in the phenyl ring. However, very little ladder unit was also present with in the polymer chain. The moderate thermal stability of the synthesized polymer could be found from the TGA analysis. The average DC conductivity of $2.8{\times}10^{-4}S/cm$ was observed for the synthesized polymer pellet after doping with hydrochloric acid.

Water-soluble, chiral conducting, poly(diphenylamine) (PDPA) nanocomposites were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of diphenylamine in the presence of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as a template and camphor sulphonic acid (CSA) as the chiral inductor, Composites were formed as stable aqueous dispersions under different experimental conditions, such as DPA to PAA molar ratios, PAA molecular weight, etc. Circular dichroism(CD) spectra of the composites indicated the induction of chirality to PDPA. Compared to simple chiral PANI, the PDPA/PAA/CSA nanocomposites showed a different Cotton effect. The appearance of a CD band in the composite was complimentary to the bisignate, exciton-coupled band in the UV-Visible spectrum. FTIR spectra indicated the intimate mixing of PDPA and PAA.
Laccase catalyzes the oxidation and polymerization of aromatic compounds in the presence of molecular oxygen. Studies were conducted to characterize the use of polyethylene glycol (PEG) as an additive to keep up the enzymatic stability. The enzymatic activities highly remained and bisphenol A (BPA) was rapidly converted in the presence of 5 mg/l of PEC. These effects were accomplished with PEG of molecular weight 3,350. A linear relationship was found between the quantity of BPA to be converted $(10-120\;{\mu}M)$ and the optimum dose of PEC required for greater than $95\%$ conversion. This result suggests that it is the interaction between the PEG and the reaction products. In the optimum dose of PEG, the aeration of reaction mixture neither enhanced the conversion of BPA nor retarded the inactivation of the enzyme.

Flexible composite films of $V_2O_5$ and conductive polypyrrole ($V_2O_5$/PPy) were grown by facile electrochemical polymerization, wherein an anodization potential was applied to the substrate electrode in an electrolyte solution containing pyrrole monomer and dispersed $V_2O_5$ particles. The coating of polypyrrole (PPy) on the surface of $V_2O_5$ particles was induced by the oxidative catalytic action of $V_2O_5$ during the electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole. PPy in the composite film connects the isolated $V_2O_5$ particles. This results in the formation of conductive networks in the composite film cathode, thereby enhancing the Li+ ion diffusion to the surface of the isolated $V_2O_5$ particles and thus increasing the accessibility of the $Li^+$ ions. The specific capacity tests of the Li rechargeable batteries revealed that the discharge capacity of this composite film cathode was higher, i.e., $497\;mAhg^{-1}$, than that of $V_2O_5$/PPy powder or pristine $V_2O_5$.

Polycarbosilanes containing diacetylene and organosilacyclic groups, such as poly(1,1-diethynyl-1-silacyclopent-3-ene), poly(1,1-diethynyl-3-triethylsilyl-1-silacyclopent-3-ene), and poly(1,1-diethynyl-1- silacyclobutane), were synthesized by the Glaser oxidative coupling polymerization reactions of 1,1-diethynyl-1-silacyclopent-3-ene, 1,1-diethynyl-3-triethylsilyl-1-silacyclopent-3-ene, and 1,1-diethynyl-1-silacyclobutane, respectively. These materials are almost insoluble in usual organic solvents such as $CHCl_3$ and THF. The polymers were characterized by using several spectroscopic methods in solid state. FTIR spectra of all the polymeric materials show that the characteristic C≡C stretching frequencies appear at 2146-2170 $cm^{-1}$, in particular. The polymers in the solid state show that the strong maximum excitation peaks appear at 255-257 nm and the strong maximum fluorescence emission bands at 401-402 nm. About 71-87% of the initial polymer weights remain at 400 ℃ in nitrogen according to thermogravimetric analysis.
A conjugated spirocyclic polymer was synthesized via the cyclopolymerization of 1,1-dipropargyl-1- silacyclohexane with various transition metal catalysts. The monomer, 1,1-dipropargyl-1-silacyclohexane was synthesized by Grignard reaction of 1,1-dichloro-1-silacyclohexane with propargyl magnesium bromide. This polymerization proceeded well to give the corresponding poly(1,1-dipropargyl-1-silacyclohexane). The catalytic activity of WCl6 was found to be similar with that of MoCl5. The structure of polymer having the conjugated backbone with silacyclohexane moieties was characterized by such instrumental methods as NMR (1H-, 13C-), IR, and UV-visible spectroscopies. The resulting polymers were mostly yellow or light-brown powders, depending on the catalyst systems used. This polymer was completely soluble in halogenated and aromatic hydrocarbons such as chloroform, 1,2-dichloromethane, benzene, toluene, and chlorobenzene, etc. The thermal and oxidative stabilities of polymer were also studied and discussed.
Poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether) (PPE) was synthesized using $Cu(NO_2)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$ or CuCl catalyst with various amounts of ligand and base in several different solvent systems. CuCl/1-methylimidazole/ammonium hydroxide was found to be an effective catalyst system which showed the highest polymer yield and molecular weight. The effects of catalyst/monomer ratio, different amine ligands, and the content of mono-functional reagent 2,4,6-trimethylphenol (TMP) additive on the polymer yield and molecular weight were investigated. Among the co-solvent systems used in this polymerization, chloroform/methanol 9/1(v/v) gave the highest polymer yield and molecular weight ($\overline{M_n}$ 55 K, $\overline{M_w}$ 92 K, PDI 1.7). The catalytic activity between CuCl and CuI was compared by oxygen-uptake experiments and the formation of sideproduct, 5,5'-tetramethyl-4,4'-diphenoquinone (DPQ), was analyzed by ultraviolet spectroscopy.
A novel $g-C_3N_4$/ZnO/stellerite (CNZOS) hybrid photocatalyst, which was synthesized by coupled hydro thermal-thermal polymerization processing, was applied as an efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst against Staphylococcus aureus. The optimum synthesized hybrid photocatalyst showed a sandwich structure morphology with layered $g-C_3N_4$ (doping amount: 40 wt%) deposited onto micron-sized ZnO/stellerite particles (ZnO average diameter: ~18 nm). It had a narrowing band gap (2.48 eV) and enlarged specific surface area ($23.05m^2/g$). The semiconductor heterojunction effect from ZnO to $g-C_3N_4$ leads to intensive absorption of the visible region and rapid separation of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs. In this study, CNZOS showed better photocatalytic disinfection efficiency than $g-C_3N_4/ZnO$ powders. The disinfection mechanism was systematically investigated by scavenger-quenching methods, indicating the important role of $H_2O_2$ in both systems. Furthermore, $h^+$ was demonstrated as another important radical in oxidative inactivation of the CNZOS system. In respect of the great disinfection efficiency and practicability, the CNZOS heterojunction photocatalyst may offer many disinfection applications.
