Chemical compositions of planetary nebulae are of interest for a study of the late stage of stellar evolution and for elemental contributions to the interstellar medium of reprocessed elements since possibly a large fraction of stars in 0.8 - 8 $M_{\bigodot}$ range go through this stage. One of the methods for getting chemical composition is a construction of theoretical photoionization models, which involves geometrical complexities and a variety of physical processes. With modelling effort, one can analyze the high dispersion and find the elemental abundances for a number of planetary nebulae. The model also gives the physical parameter of planetary nebula and its central star physical parameter along with the knowledge of its evolutionary status. Two planetary nebulae, NGC 7026 and Hu 1-2, which could have evolved from about one solar mass progenitor stars, showed radically different chemical abundances: the former has high chemical abundances in most elements, while the latter has extremely low abundances. We discuss their significance in the light of the evolution of our Galaxy.
X-ray photoelectron spectra have been obtained and comparisons have been made for 1-2-3 and 2-1-1 phases of YBaCuO compounds. The photoelectron binding energies of all the constituent elements are consistently larger for the 2-1-1 phase than for the 1-2-3 phase. The peak intensities reflect different stoichiometries of the two phases. For the superconducting 1-2-3 phase, its degradation in air and interaction with water and carbon dioxide were examined by taking core level spectra of all the elements. It appears that yttrium is the most affected by exposure to air, since it undergoes a rapid change to carbonate when water and subsequently carbon dioxide are introduced.
Master formulas for overlap integrals and the dipole moments involving |4p > atomic orbitals have been derived by the expansion method for spherical harmonics. The radial integrals for the hyperfine interaction have also been derived for |4p > atomic orbitals. The calculated values of the overlap integrals and dipole moment matrix elements by the expansion method for spherical harmonics for a hypothetical NO molecule are exactly in agreement with those of Mulliken's method. The radial integrals for the hyperfine interaction may be used to calculate the chemical shift for |4p > atomic orbitals.
Mineral composition and chemical properties of Hwangto (reddish residual soil) that used in feeding of cattles at Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, Korea were examined according to particle size separation such as gravel, sand, silt, coarse clay and fine clay. Mineral composition analyses reveal that gravel and sand are mainly composed of quartz and feldspars and that kaolin mineral and illite are dominant in clay and silt. Iron oxides are mainly included in fine clay. According to chemical analyses of major elements, Al, Fe and $H_2O$ contents are increased with decreasing of particle size. This trend well agrees with increase of clay minerals in smaller particles, Chemical analyses of trace elements indicate that contents of Zn, Rb, Sr, Ba, Pb significantly differ with particle sizes. Ba and Sr are included in feldspars since these elements are abundant in sand containing abundant feldspars. Pb and Sm are abundant in sample before particle size separation, but the contents are significantly decreased after separation. Therefore, most of these elements appear to be existed as removable phase. Nb, La, Th, Ce are more abundant in silt. The contents of all the other trace elements tend to be increased in smaller particles containing more clay minerals. The contents of changeable cations and teachable elements in acid and alkali solutions are high in clay samples. All the above results indicate that using the portion of smaller particle of Hwangto for livestock feed rather than bulk Hwangto can improve cation exchangeable capacity, ion leaching capacity and sorption properties.
Isotope-dilution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to determine trace amounts of Cd, Cu, Pb, Ni and Zn in sediment. Sediment samples were dissolved by microwave digestion with addition of mixed acid ($HNO_3$, HF and $HClO_4$). Lead was determined after separation of alkaline and alkaline earth metals by an ammonium pyrrolidenedithiocarbarmate (APDC) solvent extraction. The other elements were determined after separation of iron, tin and titanium by hydroxide precipitation. Recovery efficiency of the analyte elements was not satisfactory, but most of matrix elements causing the isobaric interference could be effectively eliminated by the separation. Good agreement was achieved with the certified values in the analysis of the two sediment reference materials.

In this paper, We studied the change of surface and variation of elements on both electrodes of hydrogen generator of alkaline electrolysis in use of FE-SEM and SIMS. We used the stainless steel 316(600 ${\mu}m$) as electrode in condition of 25%KOH, $60^{\circ}C$ Temperature. The results show that the intensity of elements (C, Si, P, S, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Mo) of Positive Electrode are decreased as much as about $10^1{\sim}10^3 $than the original electrode. Thickness of Positive Electrode is decreased about 40 ${\mu}m$ after chemical reaction. The negative electrode, however, shows a slight variation in the intensity of elements (C, Si, P, Fe, Ni, Mn, Mo) but Change of thickness and surface' shape of electrode show nothing after chemical reaction. The change in thickness and variation of Stainless Steel 316 cause the lifetime of electrode to be shorted. We also observed hydrogen, oxygen, potassium in both electrodes. Especially, The potassium is increased in proportional with depth of positive electrode. this means the concentration of alkali solutions is changed. and so we have to supply alkaline solution to generator in order to produce same quantity of hydrogen gas continuously. we hope that this study gives a foundation to develop the electrode for hydrogen generator of alkaline electrolysis.
The dependencies of the chemical element abundances in stellar atmospheres with respect to solar abundances on the second ionization potentials of the same elements were investigated using the published stellar abundance patterns for 1,149 G and K giants in the Local Region of the Galaxy. The correlations between the relative abundances of chemical elements and their second ionization potentials were calculated for groups of stars with effective temperatures between 3,764 and 7,725 K. Correlations were identified for chemical elements with second ionization potentials of 12.5 eV to 20 eV and for elements with second ionization potentials higher than 20 eV. For the first group of elements, the correlation coefficients were positive for stars with effective temperatures lower than 5,300 K and negative for stars with effective temperatures from 5,300 K to 7,725 K. The results of this study and the comparison with earlier results for hotter stars confirm the variations in these correlations with the effective temperature. A possible explanation for the observed effects is the accretion of hydrogen and helium atoms from the interstellar medium.

Europium activated yttrium oxide ($Y_2O_3$ : Eu) is extensively applied to red phosphor for Flat Panel Display because of its high efficiency and the thermal and chemical stability. Flat Panel Display screen which have a high resolution and high efficiency needs to the phosphors of ideally small size spherical particle. In this study, we prepared a $Y_2O_3$ : Eu phosphor using polymeric precursor methods and investigated the codoping effect by introducing the group 1 or 2 elements to $Y_2O_3$ : Eu phosphor in view of improvement of luminance efficiency.
Background: The chemical characterization of metallic alloys and oxides is conventionally carried out by wet chemical analytical methods and/or instrumental methods. Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is capable of analyzing samples nondestructively. As a part of a chemical quality control exercise, Zircaloys 2 and 4, nimonic alloy, and zirconium oxide samples were analyzed by two INAA methods. The samples of alloys and oxides were also analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and direct current Arc OES methods, respectively, for quality assurance purposes. The samples are important in various fields including nuclear technology. Methods: Samples were neutron irradiated using nuclear reactors, and the radioactive assay was carried out using high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry. Major to trace mass fractions were determined using both relative and internal monostandard (IM) NAA methods as well as OES methods. Results: In the case of alloys, compositional analyses as well as concentrations of some trace elements were determined, whereas in the case of zirconium oxides, six trace elements were determined. For method validation, British Chemical Standard (BCS)-certified reference material 310/1 (a nimonic alloy) was analyzed using both relative INAA and IM-NAA methods. Conclusion: The results showed that IM-NAA and relative INAA methods can be used for nondestructive chemical quality control of alloys and oxide samples.
