  • The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between rotation of the humerus and the shoulder movement in the sagital, coronal, and diagonal planes. Thirty normal subjects(15 male. 15 female)were tested using Cybex NORMTM Testing & Rehabilitation System (CYBEX Division of LUMEX, Inc., Ronkinkoma, New York). The subjects performed active shoulder flexion, abduction and PNF patterns. The range of motion(ROM) of the glenohumeral joint was measured three times. In order to assure the statistical significance of the results. the independent t-test. and a pearson's correlation were applied of the .05 and .01 level of significant. The results of this study were as follow ;1. There were statistically significant differences between shoulder flexion with humerus medial rotation and shoulder flexion with humerus lateral rotation(p <.01). 2. There were statistically significant differences between shoulder abduction with humerus medial rotation and shoulder abduction with humerus lateral rotation(p <.01). 3. There were statistically significant differences between PNF pattern(flex-abd-ext rot) with humerus medial rotation and PNF pattern with humerus lateral rotation(p < .01).For effective rehabilitation of the shoulder, physical therapists must have correct knowledge of shoulder movements. Physical therapists should consider these results when the goal of treatment is to increase ROM of the shoulder.

  • The aim of this cross sectional case control study was to examine the serofrequency and serointensity of Toxoplasma gondii (Tg) IgG, IgM, and DNA among patients with schizophrenia. A total of 101 patients with schizophrenia and 55 healthy controls from Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor, Malaysia and University Malaya Medical Center (UMMC) were included in this study. The diagnosis of schizophrenia was made based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV). The presence of Tg infection was examined using both indirect (ELISA) and direct (quantitative real-time PCR) detection methods by measuring Tg IgG and IgM and DNA, respectively. The serofrequency of Tg IgG antibodies (51.5%, 52/101) and DNA (32.67%, 33/101) among patients with schizophrenia was significantly higher than IgG (18.2%, 10/55) and DNA (3.64%, 2/55) of the controls (IgG, P=0.000, OD=4.8, CI=2.2-10.5; DNA, P=0.000, OD=12.9, CI=2.17-10.51). However, the Tg IgM antibody between patients with schizophrenia and controls was not significant (P>0.005). There was no significant difference (P>0.005) in both serointensity of Tg IgG and DNA between patients with schizophrenia and controls. These findings have further demonstrated the strong association between the active Tg infection and schizophrenia.

  • In 2016, as a part of the research program 'Survey of Korean Indigenous Species', diverse environmental samples were collected from various sources of freshwater, seawater, soil, wetland, reclaimed land, sand, pine forest, plant root, ginseng field, solar saltern, and caves. Thousands of bacterial strains were isolated from the diverse samples and identified based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses. The present study, as a phylogenetic subset of the primary research program, reports 24 unrecorded bacterial species in Korea that belong to the orders Rhizobiales and Sphingomonadales in the class Alphaproteobacteria. Based on the high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities (>98.8%) and formation of a robust phylogenetic clade with the closest type species, it was determined that each strain belonged to each independent and predefined bacterial species. There is no official report that these 24 bacterial species have been described in Korea; therefore, 10 species of nine genera in the order Rhizobiales and 14 species of seven genera in the order Sphingomonadales are described for unreported alphaproteobacterial species in Korea. Gram reaction, colony and cell morphology, biochemical properties, and isolation sources are also provided in the species description section.

  • A science museum responds independently based on the exhibits and exhibition environments as the visitors are different in purposes, interests and demands. Therefore a science museum should be designed keeping it in mind that there are various ways for visitors to perceive and use the exhibition spaces and exhibits. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the characteristics of sensory receptors for the exhibits in National Museum of Nature and Science's Global Gallery, Tokyo, in terms of information transmission and to identify the nature of exhibit medium that can affect the perception and recognition of the exhibits by visitors. Through these 9 sensory receptors, human recognizes first with visual, auditory and olfactory senses and reacts using vestibular organ, proprioceptor (stretch), tangoreceptor, themoreceptor, taste and olfactory senses. Human uses these information processing to recolonize the external environment. This process is similar to the visitor's information transmission process for the exhibition medium. By dividing the analysis results per exhibition theme and developing the information transmission processing types per sensory receptor, we could understand that the distribution conditions are closely connected with the composition of the exhibition scenario in the exhibtion area. Especially, the understanding of how the information transmission is made through sensory receptors could can be the criteria that determines on the factors that can identify the exhibition purposes of a science museum which are eduction and understanding.

  • To investigate detergency of various woven fabrics in relation to the detergents and washing temperature. cotton, polyester/cotton (p/c), nylon, acetate, and polyester were soiled in aqueous artificial ($carbon-CCl_4$) soil. Each fabric was washed with soap, alkaline and neutral synthetic detergents at $30^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ respectively. The results obtained may be summerized as follows; 1. In soap, ascension of temperature had the most important effect upon washing efficiency and the higher the temperature was, the higher the washing efficiency was showed in all fabrics. And in case of alkaline synthetic detergent, nylon and p/c fabrics were much more difficult to clean at higher temperature and also acetate and polyester had the best efficiency at $40^{\circ}C$. Detergency of neutral detergent was good but the effect of temperature in neutral detergent was less than in soap. 2. Washing efficiency of cotton was less than that of others. 3. The higher the temperature was, the higher the washing efficiency of cotton in all detergents, and the best was in soap. In p/c, detergency of neutral detergent was good but effect of ascension of temperature was lower than in soap. In nylon, washing efficiencies of alkaline synthetic detergent and neutral detergent were excellent at 30°C but detergency of soap at $60^{\circ}C$ was best. In case of acetate, detergency of all detergents was about the same at $30^{\circ}C$ but that of soap at $60^{\circ}C$ was best. In polyester at $30^{\circ}C$, efficiency of neutral detergent was excellent but that of soap was more excellent at higher temperature and the best detergency of alkaline synthetic detergent showed at $40^{\circ}C$. In general. the higher the temperature is, the higher the washing efficiency of soap is. But when synthetic fibers of nylon and polyester are washed with synthetic detergents, washing at lower temperature is advisable.
