It is essential to understand the spray characteristics of injectors for the development of liquid rocket engine systems. In this study, the image processing methods for the measurement of the spray characteristics such as spray angle, breakup length and drop size of Gas-Centered Swirl Coaxial(GCSC) injectors have been investigated. The charge-coupled device (CCD) camera with a stroboscope was used to capture the spray images. It is to be hoped that this methods could contribute to acquisition of reliable and worthwhile data for the design of injectors. Moreover, this image processing method will be verified by comparison with other experimental results.

A digital hologram generated by a computer calculation (computer-generated hologram or capture using charge-coupled device [CCD] camera) is one of the most expensive types of content, and its usage is expanding. Thus, it is highly necessary to protect the ownership of digital holograms. This paper presents an efficient visual security scheme for holographic image reconstruction with a low scrambling cost. Most recent studies on optical security concentrate their focus on security authentication using optical characteristics. However, in this paper, we propose an efficient scrambling method to protect a digital hologram. Therefore, we introduce in this paper several scrambling attempts in both the spatial domain and frequency domain on the basis of the results of analyzing the properties of the coefficients in each domain. To effectively hide the image information, 1/4, 1/256, and 1/16,384 of the original digital hologram needs to be scrambled for the spatial-domain scheme, Fresnel-domain scheme, and discrete cosine transform-domain scheme, respectively. The encryption schemes and the analyses in this paper can be expected to be useful in the research on encryption and other works on digital holograms.

This paper proposes a dimming method and a hybrid LED driving circuit suitable for the ultra high definition (UHD) broadcasting. There are major two problems during the dimming control for traditional LED broadcast lightings; one is a flicker that occurred when camera filming to these lightings, and the other is that linear control is impossible for LED luminous intensity under 10% due to LED electrical characteristics. The proposed dimming method and the driving circuit are designed to solve two problems simultaneously. For high level dimming control region from 10 to 100%, the analog control method was applied to the switching regulator constructed by MOSFET operated in the saturation region. For low level dimming control region under 10%, the fast PWM control method with the linear regulator constructed by MOSFET in the ohmic region was used. We verified experimentally that the dimming method is able to control the luminous intensity linearly from 1 to 100% and the flicker disappears on images taken by the charge coupled device (CCD) and the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) cameras. Therefore, the proposed method is suitable for the UHD broadcasting.
KOMPSAT-1 (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite ? 1) EOC (Electro Optic Camera) raw images are radiometrically corrected on ground based on the characteristics of EOC. They consist of each CCD (Charge?Coupled Device) pixel’s calibration slope which was measured on ground, electrical gains which are applied to amplify for increasing output pixel counts. Currently, radio-metrically corrected EOC images with calibration slope have still shown defective features by residual stripes. So, it should be compensated by adjusting the calibration slope. In this paper, the adjustment of current calibration slope for de-striping EOC images is addressed and test results are shown.
In this study, the performance of a gold biosensor combined with light microscope imaging system (GB-LMIS) was comparatively evaluated against enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for detecting Salmonella under simulated chilling condition. The optimum concentration of antiSalmonella polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) was determined to be 12.5 and 100 ㎍/ml for ELISA and GBLMIS, respectively. GB-LMIS exhibited a sufficient and competitive specificity toward three tested Salmonella among only. To mimic a real-world situation, chicken was inoculated with Salmonella cocktail and stored under chilling condition for 48 h. The overall growth of Salmonella under chilling condition was significantly lower than that under non-exposure to the chilling condition (p < 0.05). No significant differences in bacterial growth were observed between brain heart infusion and brilliant green broth during the enrichment period (p > 0.05). Finally, both GB-LMIS and ELISA were employed to detect Salmonella at every 2-h interval. GB-LMIS detected Salmonella with a competitive specificity by the direct observation of bacteria on the sensor using a charge-coupled device camera within a detection time of ~2.5 h. GB-LMIS is a feasible, novel, and rapid method for detecting Salmonella in poultry facilities.

In this paper, we propose a new illumination-robust drowsy driver monitoring system with single CCD(Charge Coupled Device) camera for intelligent vehicle in the day and night. For this system that is monitoring driver's eyes during a driving, the eye detection and the measure of eyelid movement are the important preprocesses. Therefore, we propose efficient illumination compensation algorithm to improve the performance of eye detection and also eyelid movement measuring method for efficient drowsy detection in various illumination. For real-time application, Cascaded SVM (Cascaded Support Vector Machine) is applied as an efficient eye verification method in this system. Furthermore, in order to estimate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we collect video data about drivers under various illuminations in the day and night. Finally, we acquired average eye detection rate of over 98% about these own data, and PERCLOS(The percentage of eye-closed time during a period) are represented as drowsy detection results of the proposed system for the collected video data.

In this paper, a new encryption method for a binary image using Phase modulation and Fourier transform is proposed. For decryption we use the characteristics of square law detector. In encryption process, a key image is obtained by phase modulation of 256 level random pattern and its Fourier transformation, and input image is encrypted by Fourier transforming the multiplication of the phase modulated random pattern and phase modulated input image. The encrypted image and key image have only phase information, so they can not be copied or counterfeited and the original image can not be decrypted without the key image. To reconstruct the original image, each phase mask of the key image and the encrypted image must be placed on each path of the Mach-Zehnder interferometry with Fourier transform lens and the output image is obtained in the form of intensity in the CCD(Charge Coupled Device) camera. The real-time decryption is possible in the proposed system by use of a LCD as a phase modulator and a CCD camera as an intensity detector. The proposed method shows a good performance in the computer simulation and optical experiment as an encryption scheme.

We proposed an eye gaze tracking system under natural head movements. The system consists of one CCD(charge-coupled device) camera and two front-surface mirrors. The mirrors rotate to follow head movements in order to keep the eye within the view of the camera. However, the mirror controller cannot guarantee the fast head movements, because the frame rate is generally 30Hz. To overcome this problem, we applied Kalman filter to estimate next eye position from the current eye image. In the results, our system allowed the subjects head to move 60cm horizontally and 40cm vertically, with the head movement speed about 55cm/sec and 45cm/sec, respectively. And spatial gate resolutions were about 4.5 degree and 5.0 degree, respectively, and the gaze estimation accuracy was 92% under natural head movements.

3D data are in great demand for pedestrian navigation recently. For pedestrian navigation, we needs to reconstruct 3D model in detail from people's eye. In order to present spatial features in detail for pedestrian navigation, it is indispensable to develop 3D model not only in outdoor environment but also in indoor environment such as underground shopping complex. However, it is very difficult to acquire 3D data efficiently by mobile mapping without GPS. In this research, 3D shape was acquired by Laser scanner, and texture by CCD(Charge Coupled Device) sensor. Continuous changes position and attitude of sensors were measured by IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit). Moreover, IMU was corrected by relative orientation of CCD images without GPS(Global Positioning System). In conclusion, Reliable, quick, and handy method for acquiring 3D data for indoor environment is proposed by a combination of a digital camera and a laser scanner with IMU.

Our aim was to simulate ocean waves in a small-size wave flume and observe the motion of a cylindrical floating body placed in an offshore environment. To precisely visualize the oscillation of the body, a set of light-emitting diode illuminators and high-speed charge-coupled device camera were installed in the flume. Spectral analysis was performed of the movement of the floating body. The wave generator and absorbers worked well to simulate stable regular waves. As the period of the oncoming waves changed, the movement of the floating body substantially differed when tethered to a tension-leg mooring cable. In particular, when connected to the tension-leg mooring cable, the natural frequency of the floating body suddenly appeared at 0.391 Hz as the wave period was increased.
