  • The purpose of this research is to investigate adult's perception of elderly parents care and differences of related variables between family structures. There were 1,258 participants(age 45; male=601, female=657; 1,111=nuclear, 147=extended). The measures yielded Cronbach α=.67~.95, inter-judger reliability= 95.1%, Kappa=.95. The results showed that, first, there were no significant differences between two family structures in terms of SES excepting academic career. Second, there were significant differences between two family structures in family relation, psychological characteristics. That is, adults in the extended family, versus those in the nuclear family, provide greater emotional support to children, sacrificed more towards children, and have greater expectations for children supporting them when they retire. Also, adults in the extended family displayed greater self-efficacy and happiness. Third, there were significant differences between two family structures in caring for elderly parents. Adults in the extended family apportioned a greater parent's allowance, and more number of meals with parents, and spent more time talking with parents, and displayed greater degree of filial piety and more caring behavior towards parents. Fourth, as for the perception of caring for elderly parents according to family structure, when adults were asked about "the best way to care for parents", the most frequent response was providing a peace-of-mind for parents. As for "the most difficult aspect of caring for parents", differences in opinions followed by financial difficulty were the most. As for "the best aspects of caring for parents", the most frequent responses were good for children's upbringing and family harmony. Based on the results, suggestions for further research have been discussed.

  • Human mind consists of what he or she knows, namely 'a portion of awareness', as well as of what he or she does not know, namely 'a portion of unawareness'.1) Self refers to both consciousness and unconsciousness, whereas self-growth seems to be an ability with which a human being appropriately faces with the hidden desire and resistance of unconsciousness for himself and maintains its balance and unification with consciousness harmoniously. On this account, examination on character's unconsciousness seems to be an important methodological means to prospect for the original looks of self, based on character's internal psychology, and to grasp the change and growth throughout the course. Study subjects, namely and , are quite similar in internal/external factors around the leading character. Two girl leading characters, who have nested in parental influences and boundaries, confront with unfamiliar circumstances under the abrupt absence of parents. In order to resist contradictory and irrational situations there and to restore all the things to its original places, both carry out a hard adventure. Interestingly, both characters are similar in their unconscious characteristics, but they take different channels for their journey, confronting attitudes and changes of internal self. The purpose of this study was to examine the concrete origin of two characters' unconsciousness and then comparatively analyze the role of leading character's unconsciousness in the drama and its effects on the whole work. Therefore, the author tried to prove such a hypothesis as the probability and persuasiveness of story could be found out through establishing a character of higher completion degree and connecting between situations and events that are most appropriate for character's internal unconscious psychology.

  • The traveler's travel pattern has significantly changed due to the social and economic changes. The travel time among the traveler's pattern is the limited resource. The travelers are trying to maximize the utility of travel with the least travel cost. So, the travelers travel with their own travel time budget in mind, which they can pay or choose to pay for the optimal maximization of the utility of the individuals. This research is to group and extract the specific factors which affect the travel time budget by utilizing the CART analysis method, which enables the analysis of traveler's characteristics and their interrelationship based on the data collected from "2002 Household Travel Practice Research" and then try to derive a model for estimating the traveler’s travel time budget. The result of CART analysis shows that the factors which affect the travel time budget include the traveler's age, size of house, type of house, type of employment, job and relation to the head of household. Considering the affecting factors derived, I developed an estimation model. From that model, we found that the age, size of house and type of house were positively (+) related to the travel time budget while the homeworking people who have less travel frequency as a type of employment were negatively (-) related to it. In particular, from the point of type of job, the housewives, children not yet old enough to attend schools and people who are working in the agricultural, or marine product industries were found to have the negative (-) value while the people who have the administrative, office, management jobs were found to have the positive (+) value.

  • Recently, there has been a change in consumer culture. The paradigm is changing from a consumption model that used to emphasize rationality to an ethical consumption model that focuses on sustainability. Such a change in consumption patterns has also been seen in the cosmetics industry, but studies to empirically assess this trend are incomplete. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to empirically identify the impact of ethical consumption proprieties on attitudes and purchasing intentions for ethical cosmetics. To achieve the aim of this study, 506 adult women residing in Korea were selected as subjects and surveyed. To identify the demographic characteristics of the study participants, a technical statistical analysis and frequency analysis were conducted. To check the validity and reliability of the measuring tools, an exploratory factor analysis was performed, and the Cronbach's α factor was calculated. The analysis method was analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 and the Amos 25.0 statistical analysis programs. The results of this study are as follows. First, ethical spending tendencies had a positive impact on attitudes toward ethical cosmetics. Specifically, interest in ethical issues, altruism, and business ethics perception have had a positive impact on attitudes toward ethical cosmetics. However, consumer effectiveness had no significant impact on attitudes toward ethical cosmetics. Second, attitudes toward ethical cosmetics had a positive effect on purchasing intentions. This study found that for the spread of ethical cosmetics and ethical consumption trends varied according to the age and that attitudes toward ethical cosmetics and differences in purchasing intentions should be kept in mind. It also showed that attitudes toward ethical cosmetics affect purchasing intentions. The results of this study suggested that the analysis of adult women, the main consumers of cosmetics, by age was meaningful for finding the factors for growth in the macroscopic ethical cosmetics industry and that the industry could raise its ethical awareness. If such tasks are systematically established, ethical cosmetics are thought to be able to actively solve social problems and lead a mature cosmetics industry.

  • Various input data required for water quality modeling have considerable impacts on modeling results and relevant analysis due to the absence of data standardization and lack of data accuracy. With this in mind, this study mainly focused on the designing Korean Reach File for more effective water quality modeling through the supply of database composed with accurate hydraulic and hydrologic data. The Korean Reach File is the hydraulic database with the locational information of individual reaches, and each reach represents the stream reach of homogeneous hydraulic characteristics. In detail, it has reach code designating each stream reach, and topological information including catalog unit, segment, marker and index. It was also designed considering linkage of existing codes such as stream name and stream code. The devised reach code was implemented to Kyungan River at the City of Gwangju of Kyunggi Province and the results showed that the reach code could effectively support the input database integrating basic numerous data required for water quality modeling based on a criterion as well as easier linkage and utilization with existing database. In addition, more systematic water quality management was enabled through the linkage of existing data such as treatment facilities, pollutant data, and management institutes using the reach codes defined for each stream section. In the future, more efforts need to be made to adopt the reach code as the national standard data thereby enabling utilization of numerous relevant database through the assigning of reach code to individual stream reaches nationwide.

  • The Garlic having antibiosis is added to the most cuisine and used to treat dysentery and diarrhea for So-um-in(少陽人). The fact that the garlic, a Kind of Hun-chae, has warm and thermal characteristics couId be proved by a natural ecoIgical action of a fIy, Delia antiqua Meigen. OriginalIy San(蒜) designated Sosan(小蒜), a native species in Korea. But as Daesan(garlic)(大蒜) was imported, it meant both of Sosan(小蒜) and Daesan(大蒜). Now it means only Daesan(大蒜). This process of change of meaning was reviewed by focusing on the Dong-ui-bo-gam(東醫寶鑑). The San-20-mae(蒜二十枚) appearing in the Dangun mythology(檀君神話) should be interpreted not to 'garlic 20 piece(마늘 20개)' but to 'Dal-lae 20 roots(달래 20뿌리)'. It is possible to explain that the hibernant bear compared with the active tiger overcame the animality and the bestiality with perseverance in the dark cave so that it could be transformed to a human at the 21stday, the culmination number of Yang(陽). The garlic decame an abstaining food at sacrificial rituals because it arouses the sexual desire and excites person,s mind. High dose of raw garlic may cause harmful side effects in So-yang-in(少陽人) and Tae-um-in(太陰人) having a thermal characteristic.

  • The foraminiferal researches carried out on the bottom sediments of the Korean Yellow Sea were reviewed. They began from the materials collected in the mid-1960. Most of the study materials were obtained from the gravity or piston corers as well as from the grab samplers. However, relatively long cores were obtained by a drilling ship in the mid-1990. The paleoenvironmental and sea-level histories associated with the foraminiferal changes were the main topics of the foraminiferal researches. Micropaleontological characteristics were also revealed. Sediments were supplied through the input of the rivers and streams from the adjacent mainland China and Korean Peninsula since the Holocene. Although the open sea has influenced off Mokpo now, it had influenced off Kunsan in mid-Holocene which was clearly seen from the occurrence of planktonic foraminifera. However, more advanced methods of study adopting geochemistry such as an absolute age estimate, an isotope analysis and an analysis of elements in combination with other fields of studies related with foraminiferal ecology should be applied to foraminiferal researches to reveal marine geological phenomena, such as climatic fluctuations and related marine environmental changes, in more detail. Additionally, it should be kept in mind that paleontolgical research including foraminifera is essential to the understanding of the recent as well as ancient environmental changes of the earth.

  • Objective : Hyperostosis in meningiomas can be present in 4.5% to 44% of cases. Radical resection should include aggressive removal of invaded bone. It is not clear however to what extent bone removal should be carried to achieve pathologically free margins, especially that in many cases, there is a T2 hyperintense signal that extends beyond the hyperostotic bone. In this study we try to investigate the perimeter of tumour cells outside the visible nidus of hyperostotic bone and to what extent they are present outside this nidus. This would serve as an initial step for setting guidelines on dealing with hyperostosis in meningioma surgery. Methods : This is a prospective case series that included 14 patients with convexity meningiomas and hyperostosis during the period from March 2017 to August 2018 in two university hospitals. Patients demographics, clinical, imaging characteristics, intraoperative and postoperative data were collected and analysed. In all cases, all visible abnormal bone was excised bearing in mind to also include the hyperintense diploe in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T2 weighted images after careful preoperative assessment. To examine bony tumour invasion, five marked bone biopsies were taken from the craniotomy flap for histopathological examinations. These include one from the centre of hyperostotic nidus and the other four from the corners at a 2-cm distance from the margin of the nidus. Results : Our study included five males (35.7%) and nine females (64.3%) with a mean age of 43.75 years (33-55). Tumor site was parietal in seven cases (50%), fronto-parietal in three cases (21.4%), parieto-occipital in two cases (14.2%), frontal region in one case and bicoronal (midline) in one case. Tumour pathology revealed a World Health Organization (WHO) grade I in seven cases (50%), atypical meningioma (WHO II) in five cases (35.7%) and anaplastic meningioma (WHO III) in two cases (14.2%). In all grade I and II meningiomas, bone biopsies harvested from the nidus revealed infiltration with tumour cells while all other bone biopsies from the four corners (2 cm from nidus) were free. In cases of anaplastic meningiomas, all five biopsies were positive for tumour cells. Conclusion : Removal of the gross epicentre of hyperostotic bone with the surrounding 2 cm is adequate to ensure radical excision and free bone margins in grade I and II meningiomas. Hyperintense signal change in MRI T2 weighted images, even beyond visible hypersototic areas, doesn't necessarily represent tumour invasion.

  • The 2002 World Cup cheering in front of Seoul City Hall and Seoul Plaza design competition provided an opportunity for the discussion of a variety of discourses regarding our plaza culture. The Gwanghwamun Plaza constructed in 2009 also generated discussions for questions on the function of our plaza as a symbolic, humanistic and utilized place. The questions on whether we have created a plaza culture or what should be done for the design of our plaza are still being explored. The reason is that our plazas were constructed without social consensus regarding identity of our plaza while we are influenced by western plaza ideas. The principle of our plaza culture and shape is not yet discussed and determined. The emergence of discussion sparked by the Gwanghwamun Plaza and the Seoul Plaza can be seen as a positive phenomenon. If we can continue to build creative discourse, we will be able to establish our plaza cultures soon. In this context, the Ansan Gwangduk-ro theme plaza design can be a significant material to be discussed. The design competition for the plaza was held in 2009 and it is followed by the construction of the plaza in late 2010. Considering cultural and spatial issues on our plaza in mind, the project will be explained and the identity of the contemporary design will also be explored.
