This paper presents design and construct of flat type step-down piezoelectric transformer for the application to AC-adapters. This piezoelectric transformer operated in resonance vibration mode. In this paper, Finite element method(FEM) was used for analysis piezoelectric transformers. Vibration mode and electric field of piezoelectric transformer at resonance frequency were simulated. Using this simulation, we manufactured flat type piezoelecric transformer and measured its output characteristics. As results, output power was linearly increased by increasing input power at resonance frequency. And it was found that the transformer exhibited an output power of 11.4[W] at 60[V] input voltage. From these results, we expect that this piezoelecric transformer can be applied to AC adapters.

In this study, we compared the VacCAD and VacTran, commercial vacuum simulators, to investigate the simulation applicability and efficiency as vacuum simulation software. It was verified on reliability and simplicity of simulation modelling, and characteristics of the pump combinations, pumping down curves, and employed vacuum materials. First, usability of simulation schematics was estimated through the modeling tools and the overall simulation characteristics of each simulator were compared to evaluate the applicability in practice. Simulation reliability of each simulator was also probed by comparing the pumping performance characteristics of commercial high vacuum system models. In addition, the degree of tolerances on both simulators was also evaluated through pumping down analysis considering outgassing effect due to chamber material variations. The higher effectiveness and expediency of VacCAD than VacTran has been presented, and it was also expected that the utilization of VacTan in vacuum applications to be increased due to the higher availability of modelling variations.
We have explained Process and electrical characteristics of a step-down Rosen type piezoelectric transformer for AC-adapter. When the electric voltage is applied to the driving piezoelectric vibrator notarized in the thickness direction, then output voltage is generated at the generating piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the thickness direction due to the piezoelectric effects. Output voltage and current from a single-layered piezoelectric transformer were measured under the various condition of loads and frequencies It was shown from experiments that output voltage has increased and resonance frequency has changed according to various resistor loads. Output current has decreased inversely proportional to the loads
A hydrogen liquefaction equipment by direct cooling has been designed and built at KIST. Cool-down characteristics and liquefaction performance of the equipment have been investigated. The hydrogen liquefaction equipment consists of a GM refrigerator, a liquefaction velssel, a radiation shield and a cryostat. It is found that the hydrogen starts to be liquefied in the liquefaction vessel after 40~50 minutes of cool-down from the gas state of 270K. The effect of natural convection phenomena of charged gas in liquefaction vessel on the cool-down characteristics is evaluated by comparing with those in vacuum of liquefaction vessel. It is seen that the cool-down time of a liquefaction vessel is substantially increased in vacuum environment of liquefaction vessel. The experiments have been performed for 1~5 atm of hydrogen pressure to investigate the influence of hydrogen pressure on the liquefaction rate and figure of merit(FOM). It is found that both liquefaction rate and FOM are increased as the charged hydrogen pressure is increased.
Background : The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency domain characteristics of ground reaction forces during quiet standing on inclined surfaces twenty healthy individuals(10 elderly women $68.78{\pm}3.29$ years and 10 young women $20.90{\pm}0.74$ years) participated. Methods : Subjects stood in quiet stance over a force platform positioned in one of three different fixed positions: flat, down and up. Healthy participants completed with eyes open for 120 s trials. Evaluation of postural control were generally based on the interpretation of center of pressure(COP) time series. The COP have been determined using an experimental setup with 3D kinematic and the ground reaction force system. All the data were expressed means and standard deviation by using SAS package program. Results : SEF 50% were not significant in AP and ML direction according to surface slope of both groups. SEF 95% were showed highest frequency in AP direction on down slope of both groups. MEF were not significant all direction according to surface slopes of elderly women. There was no difference between young and elderly women. Conclusion : Elderly women used to ankle strategy during a quiet stance according to COP perturbation of AP direction showed more expanded than ML direction. SEF 95% were showed highest frequency on down slope in elderly women who showed more used ankle strategy for postural control on down slope.

This paper focuses on the seismic performance of pallet-type steel storage rack structures in their down aisle direction. As evidenced by experimental research, the seismic response of storage racks in the down-aisle direction is strongly affected by the nonlinear moment-rotation response of the beam-to-column connections. In their down-aisle direction, rack structures are designed to resist lateral seismic loads with typical moment frames utilizing proprietary beam-to-column moment-resisting connections. These connections are mostly boltless hooked type connections and they exhibit significantly large rotations resulting in large lateral frame displacements when subjected to strong ground motions. In this paper, typical hooked boltless beam-to-column connections are studied experimentally to obtain their non-linear reversed cyclic moment-rotation response. Additionally, a compound type connection involving the standard hooks and additional bolts were also tested under similar conditions. The simple introduction of the additional bolts within the hooked connection is considered to be a practical way of structural upgrade in the connection. The experimentally evaluated characteristics of the connections are compared in terms of some important performance indicators such as maximum moment and rotation capacity, change in stiffness and accumulated energy levels within the cyclic loading protocol. Finally, the obtained characteristics were used to carry out seismic performance assessment of rack frames incorporating the tested beam-to-column connections. The assessment involves a displacement based approach that utilizes a simple analytical model that captures the seismic behavior of racks in their down-aisle direction. The results of the study indicate that the proposed method of upgrading appears to be a very practical and effective way of increasing the seismic performance of hooked connections and hence the rack frames in their down-aisle direction.
The 'NREL Phase VI' model with a 10.06m diameter was tested in the NASA Ames tunnel to make a reference data of the computational models. The test was conducted at the one rotational speed, blade tip speed 38m/s and the Reynolds number of the sectional airfoils in that test was around 1E6. The 1/5 scale down model of the 'NREL Phase VI' model was used in this paper to study the power characteristics in low Reynolds number region, 0.1E6 ~ 0.4E6 which is achievable range for the conventional wind tunnel facilities. The torque generated by the blade was directly measured by using the torque sensor installed in the rotating axis for a given wind speed and rotational speed. The power characteristics below the stall condition, lambda > 4, was presented in this paper. The power coefficient is very low in the condition below the Re. 0.2E6 and rapidly increases as the Re. increases. And it still increases but the variation is not so big in the condition above the Re. 0.3E6. This results shows that to study the performance of the wind turbine blade by using the scaled down model, the Re. should be larger than the 0.3E6.
Cadmium telluride (CdTe) is one of the most attractive photovoltaic materials due to its low cost, high efficiency and stable performance in physical, optical and electronic properties. Few researches on the influences of uniform surface on the photovoltaic characteristics in large-area CdTe solar cell were not reported. As the preceding study of the effects of thickness-uniformity on the photovoltaic characteristics for the large-area CdTe thin film solar cell, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process was investigated for an enhancement of thickness-uniformity. Removal rate of CdTe thin film was 3160 nm/min of the maximum value at the 200 $gf/cm^2$ of down force (pressure) and 60 rpm of table speed (velocity). The removal rate of CdTe thin film was more affected by the down force than the table speed which is the two main factors directly influencing on the removal rate in CMP process. RMS roughness and peak-to-valley roughness of CdTe thin film after CMP process were improved to 96.68% and 85.55%, respectively. The optimum process condition was estimated by 100 $gf/cm^2$ of down force and 60 rpm of table speed with the consideration of good removal uniformity about 5.0% as well as excellent surface roughness for the large-area CdTe solar cell.
To achieve good cryogenic circumstances by Gifford-McMahon cryocooler, we have to constitute optimal conditions with various factors for G-M cryocooler. In this study, cool-down characteristics were presented with some factors using brass matrix mesh (1st stage) and Pb ball (2nd stage) as regenerator materials for the heat exchangers. The effects of the variations of Helium gas pressure and cycle frequency on the cooling capacity of G-M cryocooler are investigated experimentally. The presented results could be summarized as follows : 1) As the steady state pressure increases, 'no load temperature' decreases but cooling capacity increases. 2) It is confirmed that the characteristics of the specific heat of the regenerator materials agree well with the cool-down characteristics of 10 K cryocooler.
Voltage step-down characteristics of Ring/Dot type piezoelectric transformer were examined with increasing input voltage from $10\;V_{pp}$ to $140V_{pp}$. Then the output load resistance was fixed to $125\;\Omega$. The voltage gain showed constant value till the input voltage of $70\;V_{pp}$. And then it linearly decreased till the input voltage of $140V_{pp}$. The output voltage of fabricated piezoelectric transformer increased with increasing input voltage. And driving frequencies when the output voltage was maximum value were changed according to input voltage. Frequency shifts and temperature rise of fabricated sample showed 2 kHz, $13^{\circ}C$, respectively when input voltage was changed from $10\;V_{pp}$ to $140V_{pp}$. Because of the temperature rise of fabricated piezoelectric transformer, the step-down characteristics of it was deteriorated above the input voltage of $70\;V_{pp}$.
