A Study on the Extraction of Car License Plate and Separation of Character Region Using DCT (DCT를 이용한 차량 번호판 추출 및 문자영역 분리에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes the methods which segment more efficiently the car license plate and the character region by using 1-D DCT. In the car images, a license plate region and a character region of the license plate can be distingushed by the regular high frequency components from the car images. In this method, it is shown that the regular high frequency componets are extracted by using DCT and license plate region is segmented in the car image and the caracter region is then seperated at the extracted license plate by using the previously extracted regular high frequency components. Some experiment results of the various images are shown. It has been shown from the results that the car license plates and the character regions can be segmented more exactly and efficiently than conventional methods.

  • Korean entertainment programs have attempted to change formats to reflect the viewers' preference for the unexpected progress of narrative. Casts have used their public identity and it contributes to strengthen the realism by providing their realistic reactions. This study is to advance understanding of entertainment characters' characteristic by classifying character types and analyzing main types that have been appeared repeatedly. This study suggests securing diversity of entertainment characters by noticing character types appearing at low frequency in classification.

Analysis of User's Eye Gaze Distribution while Interacting with a Robotic Character (로봇 캐릭터와의 상호작용에서 사용자의 시선 배분 분석)

  • In this paper, we develop a virtual experimental environment to investigate users' eye gaze in human-robot social interaction, and verify it's potential for further studies. The system consists of a 3D robot character capable of hosting simple interactions with a user, and a gaze processing module recording which body part of the robot character, such as eyes, mouth or arms, the user is looking at, regardless of whether the robot is stationary or moving. To verify that the results acquired on this virtual environment are aligned with those of physically existing robots, we performed robot-guided quiz sessions with 120 participants and compared the participants' gaze patterns with those in previous works. The results included the followings. First, when interacting with the robot character, the user's gaze pattern showed similar statistics as the conversations between humans. Second, an animated mouth of the robot character received longer attention compared to the stationary one. Third, nonverbal interactions such as leakage cues were also effective in the interaction with the robot character, and the correct answer ratios of the cued groups were higher. Finally, gender differences in the users' gaze were observed, especially in the frequency of the mutual gaze.

Consumers' Cognition and Buying Behavior of Sports Brand Character (스포츠 브랜드의 캐릭터에 대한 소비자 인식과 구매행동)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the consumers′ cognition and buying behavior on sports brand character. Since the character industries are booming, this study focused on the source and the expression method of sports brand characters that are already known to consumers. Subjects of this study were university students who were interested in sports brand characters, living in Seoul and Kyenggi-do. The questionnaire were developed based on the previous studies. Data were analysed by Frequency analysis, ANOVA, Duncan Test, and Spearman′s Rho. The results were as follows: 1. The most preferred source of sports brands character was "illustrated human figure"(i.e. a famous athlete like Michael Jordan). And the most favorite expression method of character was the combination of letter and symbol as the character of ASICS and NIKE. 2. The important design factors of sports brand character were the symbolism and aesthetics. The consumer recognized NIKE as the most well-designed character design. 3. Consumers′ preference of sports brand was found to be NIKE, REEBOK, ADIDAS, and FILA, in order. The reasons for preference were the design, the brand image, and the quality. On the other hand, the most frequently purchased brand was NIKE, FILA, and ADIDAS in order. Most of the purchase took place in the brand outlet store, and the consumers usually came with their friends for purchase of sports brand. The display of store was the consumers′ major source of information. 4. The preference group of sports brand character recognized more importantly color, design, brand, and especially fashionability than the non-preference group. And the most important criteria for brand selection were design, price, and comfort orderly. 5. Female consumers recognized more importantly color, design, brand, and others′ recommendations than male consumers. The aged consumers recognized importantly durability, comfort, and quality.

  • We propose expert system for restoration the original character form of ancient relics based on image processing and computer graphics. Letters engraved in relief like relics and intaglio like curved tombstones and letters engraved in plane or curved part of cultural asset may have been broken by a lot of rubbed copy, a long time and tide. In this paper, we suggest a new method for extracting and recovering the broken letters of cultural asset into an original form by using Z-map, morphological filter, and high frequency filter. Based on the suggested method. we develop the character recovering system.

A Survey on Middle School Teachers' Perception of Character Education (인성교육에 대한 중학교 교사들의 인식 조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception of middle school teachers of character education and to suggest implications for middle school character education. A total of 161 middle school teachers in Korea were surveyed and their responses were analyzed by frequency analysis and descriptive statistical analysis on the approach to character education, problem of character education, general view on character education, constituent of character education program, and teaching and learning method, First, character education was intended to be carried out through life instruction and subject education. Second, the problem of character education is that it is not carried out properly because senior school is given priority. Third, the overall view of character education is becoming more and more problematic for the personality development of students. Fourth, character components to be taught in character education program are consideration, manners, self-control, and responsibility. Fifth, the teaching and learning methods for character education were ranked in order of reflection, mutual learning, experiential activities, and student centering. Sixth, the proper period of the character education program should be continuous throughout school life with consent for continuous and repetitive education. Based on this, it is suggested that it is more important to consider how to organize character education for guidance throughout life and for curriculum than to develop it as one time program.

  • The electromagnetic (light) waves have a limitation to penetrate media, ie, water and sea-bottom layers, due to high energy attenuation, but acoustic (sound) waves play as the good messenger to gather the underwater target information. Therefore, the acoustic methods are applied to almost all of ocean equipments and technology in terms of in-water and sub-bottom surveys. Generally the sound character is controlled by its frequency. In case that the sound source is low frequency, the penetration is high and the resolution is low. On the other hand, its character is reversed at the high frequency. The common character at the both of light and sound is the energy damping according to the travel distance increase.

The Clinical Study on Childhood Common Cold in Four Seasons (계절별(季節別) 증상(症狀)을 중심으로 한 소아감모(小兒感冒)의 임상적 고찰)

  • Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the character of childhood common cold according to four seasons. Methods: We made an investigation into medical record of 432 children under fifteen years of age who visited pediatrics or emergency room suffering from common cold. We analyzed the principal and secondary symptoms of the children classifying four seasons by $SPSS^{\circledR}$ 12.0 for windows. Results: Male to female ratio were 1.42:1, the average of age was 3.86 years old. Distribution of principal symptoms was that nasal discharge was 231(56.1%), cough was 233(54.1%), nasal obstruction was 162(39.3%), secretion and sputum were 126(30.6%), fever was 121(29.4%), and headache was 13(3.2%). Out of these fever occurred in high frequency during spring and summer, nasal obstruction occurred in high frequency during spring and autumn. Distribution of secondary symptoms was that throat pain was 93(22.6%), otalgia was 39(9.5%), vomiting was 35(8.5%), abdominal pain was 30(7.3%), anorexia was 23(5.6%), sweating was 21(5.1%), diarrhea was 19(4.6%), and startle was 11(2.7%). Out of these otalgia occurred in high frequency during spring and summer, diarrhea occurred in high frequency during autumn and winter. Conclusions: A few symptoms can be the character according to four seasons.

A Study of the character Chi(瘛) in Huangdineijing(黃帝內經) (『황제내경(黃帝內經)』의 '계(瘛)' 자(字)에 대한 고찰)

  • Objective : This study was undertaken to refine the concept of the character Chi(瘛) in Huangdineijing(黃帝內經), find out the difference between Chi(瘛) and Zhi(瘈) and help use them correctly. Methods : This study researched the types and frequency of Chi(瘛) used in Juzhenfangsongbanyinben(聚珍倣宋版印本) edition of Huangdineijing(黃帝內經) and the mixed usage of Chi(瘛) and Zhi(瘈) by comparing some versions of the work. I discerned the meanings of Chi(瘛) and Zhi(瘈) by using opinions of annotators and dictionaries etc. Results & Conclusion : The character Chi(瘛) was used a total of 26 times in Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經). Chi(瘛) appeared by itself just 5 times, whereas it was used as a compound such as in Chizong(瘛瘲), Shunchi(瞤瘛), Xianchi(癎瘛) the rest of the time. Even though Chi(瘛) and Zhi(瘈) were mixed in their use, it appears that the character Chi(瘛) had to be used for the symptomatic myoclonus(筋間代性痙攣症狀) of a chronic convulsion(慢驚風), and the character Zhi(瘈) had to be used for rabies(狂犬病).
