Application of Laparospic Ultrasonography in Surgery of Small Renal Cell Carcinoma

  • Purpose: : To assess the clinic value of application of laparospic ultrasonography (LU) in partial nephrectomy of small renal cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: From 2007 to 2011, 28 small renal cell carcinoma patients in ou clinic underwent laparoscopic partial nephrectomy with LU. For comparison with preoperative conventional ultrasound and CT, we collected ultrasonic performance of the affected side kidney, renal tumor location, size, echo change, blood supply situation and the relationship with the surrounding tissue. Results: LU could more clearly show the tumor interior structure and blood supply, as well as the relationship with the surrounding tissue. It also can provided doctor assistance with real-time tumor resection, reducing operative complications. Conclusions: LU can clearly show tumor internal structure and blood supply, which is helpful for explicit diagnosis. Moreover, it supplies accurate information for surgeons and assists surgery. Therefore LU has an important guiding value in partial nephrectomy for small renal cell carcinoma.

A meso-scale approach to modeling thermal cracking of concrete induced by water-cooling pipes

  • Cooling by the flow of water through an embedded cooling pipe has become a common and effective artificial thermal control measure for massive concrete structures. However, an extreme thermal gradient induces significant thermal stress, resulting in thermal cracking. Using a mesoscopic finite-element (FE) mesh, three-phase composites of concrete namely aggregate, mortar matrix and interfacial transition zone (ITZ) are modeled. An equivalent probabilistic model is presented for failure study of concrete by assuming that the material properties conform to the Weibull distribution law. Meanwhile, the correlation coefficient introduced by the statistical method is incorporated into the Weibull distribution formula. Subsequently, a series of numerical analyses are used for investigating the influence of the correlation coefficient on tensile strength and the failure process of concrete based on the equivalent probabilistic model. Finally, as an engineering application, damage and failure behavior of concrete cracks induced by a water-cooling pipe are analyzed in-depth by the presented model. Results show that the random distribution of concrete mechanical parameters and the temperature gradient near water-cooling pipe have a significant influence on the pattern and failure progress of temperature-induced micro-cracking in concrete.

Right-to-Left Displacement of an Airgun Lead Bullet after Transorbital Entry into the Skull Complicated by Posttraumatic Epilepsy : A Case Report

  • Penetrating head injury is a serious open cranial injury. In civilians, it is often caused by non-missile, low velocity flying objects that penetrate the skull through a weak cranial structure, forming intracranial foreign bodies. The intracranial foreign body can be displaced due to its special quality, shape, and location. In this paper, we report a rare case of right-to-left displacement of an airgun lead bullet after transorbital entry into the skull complicated by posttraumatic epilepsy, as a reminder to colleagues that intracranial metal foreign bodies maybe displaced intraoperatively. In addition, we have found that the presence of intracranial metallic foreign bodies may be a factor for the posttraumatic epilepsy, and their timely removal appears to be beneficial for epilepsy control.

광양항 제품부두의 접안 기준 현황 및 외국 기준 검토

  • 광양항 제품부두를 필요한 대부분의 부두의 접안 기준은 재화중량톤을 기준으로 하고 있음. 부분 적재 등이 있을 때 재화중량톤기준으로 하면 선석 운영상 체선 및 비용이 발생이 생기므로 배수톤수를 기준으로 할 필요가 있다. 우리나라의 경우 울산항에서 접안기준 개선이 있었고 외국의 경우에도 배수톤수를 기준으로 하고 있으므로 이를 광양항제품부두에 적극 적용할 필요가 있다.

  • The structural defects of a heart often reflects the sounds that the heart produces. This paper describes heart sound analysis method using Wavelet transform and average Shannon energy. This can extract the features of heart sounds in various disease identify the heart sounds. Experimental results show that the presented method has potential application in detecting various heart diseases.

  • In the present note, we deal with $L^2$ harmonic 1-forms on complete submanifolds with weighted $Poincar{\acute{e}}$ inequality. By supposing submanifold is stable or has sufficiently small total curvature, we establish two vanishing theorems for $L^2$ harmonic 1-forms, which are some extension of the results of Kim and Yun, Sang and Thanh, Cavalcante Mirandola and $Vit{\acute{o}}rio$.
