The paper considers a spectrum sharing cognitive radio (CR) network coexisting with a primary network under the average interference power constraint. In particular, the secondary user (SU) is assumed to carry delay-sensitive services and thus shall satisfy a given delay quality-of-service (QoS) constraint. The secondary receiver is also assumed to be equipped with multiple antennas to perform maximal ratio combining (MRC) to enhance SU performance. We investigate the effective capacity of the SU with MRC diversity under aforementioned constraints in Nakagami fading environments. Particularly, we derive the optimal power allocation to achieve the maximum effective capacity of the SU, and further derive the effective capacity in closed-form. In addition, we further obtain the closed-form expressions for the effective capacities under three widely used power and rate adaptive transmission schemes, namely, optimal simultaneous power and rate adaptation (opra), truncated channel inversion with fixed rate (tifr) and channel inversion with fixed rate without truncation (cifr). Numerical results supported by simulations are presented to consolidate our studies. The impacts on the effective capacity of various system parameters such as the number of antennas, the average interference power constraint and the delay QoS constraint are investigated in detail. It is shown that MRC diversity can significantly improve the effective capacity of the SU especially for cifr transmission scheme.
We developed a multicast communication packet radio protocol using a time-sharing tablet system ("wireless token ring") to achieve the efficient exchange of files among packet radio terminals attached to swans. This paper provides an overview of the system and the protocol of the packet communications. The packet device forming the main part of the transceiver developed is the Texas Instruments CC2500. This device consists of one call-up channel and one data transmission channel and could improve error frame correction using FEC (forward error correction) with 34.8 kbps MSK and receiving power of at least -64 dBm (output 1 dBm at distance of 200 m using 3 dBi antenna). A time-sharing framework was determined for the wireless token ring using call sign ordinals to prevent transmission right loss. Tests using eight stations showed that resend requests with the ARQ (automatic repeat request) system are more frequent for a receiving power supply of -62 dBm or less. A wireless token ring system with fixed transmission times is more effective. This communication protocol is useful in cases in which frequency resources are limited; the energy consumed is not dependent on the transmission environment (preset transmission times); multiple terminals are concentrated in a small area; and information (position data and vital data) is shared among terminals under circumstances in which direct communication between a terminal and the center is not possible. The method allows epidemiological predictions of avian influenza infection routes based on vital data and relationships among individual birds based on the network topology recorded by individual terminals. This communication protocol is also expected to have applications in the formation of multiple in vivo micromachines or terminals that are inserted into living organisms.

In this paper, we propose a generalized processor sharing - dynamic resource allocation (GPS-DRA) scheme which allocates the required amount of resources to each hop dynamically in cellular-based multi-hop systems. In the hybrid-distributed system considered in this paper, a central controller such as a base station (BS) should allocate resources properly to each hop. However, due to changing channel condition with time, it is difficult to allocate as much amount of resources as each hop needs for transmission. GPS-DRA scheme allocates the required amount of resources dynamically to each hop based on the amount of resources used in previous frames by each hop. The amount of control overhead generated by GPS-DRA scheme can be very small because a central controller doesn't need to collect all link information for resource allocation. Our simulation results show that channel utilization increased about 16% and cell capacity increased about 65% compared to those of fixed resource allocation (FRA) scheme.

We define the incomplete medium sharing system as a multi-channel shared medium communication system where any types of constraints are imposed to the set of channels that may be allocated to any transmitter-receiver node pair. A set of distributed MAC schemes are proposed, all of which are based on the CSMA/CA scheme employed in IEEE 802. 11 WLAN standards. Distributed MAC schemes are proposed in three different forms, which can be differentiated by the number and the location of back-off timers; that is, (1) one timer for all queues destined for different receiver nodes, (2) multiple timers at individual transmission queues, (3) multiple timers for individual channels. Through an extensive set of computer simulations, the performances of the proposed MAC schemes show that the MAC scheme with timers at individual transmission queues outperform the others in terms of throughput and delay for most cases considered. The complexity of the proposed schemes is also compared, and the first scheme obviously turned out to be the simplest, and the complexity of the second and third schemes depends on the number of receiver nodes and the number of channels, respectively.

With explosion of wireless traffic it is required to further investigate the technologies on acquiring available spectrum resources and on sharing frequency with existing users. In 3GPP, it is started to study on feasibility and functional requirement of LTE standard in order to extend cellular services offered on only licensed band to 5 GHz unlicensed band. Operating scenario on LTE in unlicensed band is focused on carrier aggregation with licensed band, and the coexistence with Wi-Fi services in 5 GHz band is concerned as a major requirement. For a single global solution framework for licensed assisted access to unlicensed spectrum, listen-before-talk(LBT) mechanism of European regulation for fair access to channel under the coexistence environments is currently examined in 3GPP. In this paper, we evaluate two types of LBT, frame based equipment and load based equipment, with considering LTE carrier aggregation feature and performances of file transferred time and throughput.

Multihop lightwave networks are the optical-fiber based local communication systems that employ WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology to fully use the enormous fiber bandwidth without requiring any tunable tranceives. In this paper, we introduce a novel ShuffleNet topology, asymmetric bilayered ShuffleNet(ABS) topology as a multihop WDM network technique. For 1Gb/s transmission system, we compared ABS topology with previously reported ones in terms of common network parameters such as average number of hops, throughput, time delay, and network power function. Through the analysis, the performance of ABS topology was proven to be superior to the existing ones. To decrease the amount of hardware required for implementing ABS system, we also proposed a new WDM channel sharing scheme. For (2, 3) ShuffleNet topology system, the number of wavelengths needed in the system can be reduced dramatically from 96 to 4 by using new scheme.

In this paper, a multi-hop relaying transmission scheme is analyzed regarding its feasibility and potentiality in the IEEE 802.22-based cognitive radio (CR) environment. Shortly, basic design issues are addressed such as relay station (RS) deployment and a frame structure of physical channel to escape inter-hop interference. This paper mainly develops a radio resource management scheme based on spectrum sensing results aggregated from CR secondary nodes and improves the opportunistic spectrum sharing efficiency. In particular, a decision rule about a channel availability is made using a distributed sensing method. Subsequently, spectrum allocation and routing path decision procedures are proposed to establish a link from source to destination with a hop-by-hop manner. Simulation results show that the proposed multi-hop relaying scheme is substantially profitable in CR environments if the number of hops and RS deployment are designed in such a way that the spectrum sharing gain is larger than spectrum division loss which is inherently induced in multi-hop relaying systems.

In this paper, we analyze the distance between two systems, WiBro and WLAN, compared to standard interference probability for channel co-use in order to be used as a criteria in realization. Co-channel and adjacent channel interference probability and its effect of (WiBro) into Wireless LAN (WLAN) in TV White Spaces (TVWS) is evaluated through Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool(SEAMCAT) based on the Monte-Carlo simulation method. As a result, in the case of co-channel interference, the minimum distance between WiBro Mobile Station(MS) and WLAN User Equipment (UE) should be 210 m to allow the maximum transmitter power of WiBro UE of 25 dBm. The transmit power of WiBro BS have to be reduced to -4.96 dBm.
Multimedia applications are much more sensitive to QoS(Quality of Service) than text based ones due to their data continuity. In order to provide a fast moving MH(Mobil Host) using multimedia application with a consistent QoS,an efficient call admission mechanism is in need. This paper proposes the 2SCA(2-Step Call Admission) scheme based on cal admission scheme using pripority to guarantee the consistent QoS for mobile multimedia applications. A calls of MH are classified new calls, hand-off calls, and QoS upgrading calls. The 2SCA is composed of the basic call admission and advanced call admission; the former determines the call admission based on bandwidth available in each cell and the latter determines the call admission by applying DTT(Delay Tolerance Time), PQeueu(Priority Queue), and UpQueue(Upgrade Queue) algorithm according to the type of each call blocked at the basic call admission stage. In order to evaluate the performance of our mechanism, we measure the metrics such as the dropping probability of new calls, dropping probability of hand-off calls, and bandwidth utilization. The result shows that the performance of our mechanism is superior to that of existing mechanisms such as CSP(Complete Sharing Policy), GCP(Guard Channel Policy) and AGCP(Adaptive Guard Channel Policy).

In this paper, we analyze the sharing parameters in order to co-use of different communication systems in adjacent channels. We analyze the performance result according to various density of interfering transmitter and transmitter output in hetero systems. In order to get the relationship with between density of interfering transmitter and transmitter output, we consider the case that WiBro is an interfering transmitter an WLAN is a victim receiver. When the center frequency of WLAN is 687MHz and interferer density is 50/$km^2$, required guard band is 10MHz. Analyzed coexistence results may be widely applied into the technique developed to get the coexisting condition for wireless devices using many communication protocols in same frequency.
