In this paper, we first analyze the differences of underwater acoustic (UWA) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems and conventional terrestrial OFDM system, and give a simple introduction of the backgrounds. By considering the real UWA channel environments, the measured channel data is used to generate the UWA channel model and calculate the relative parameters for underwater OFDM systems. Practical least square (LS) based channel estimation with linear interpolation are adopted to obtain the channel state information (CSI) at receiver side. As multi-input multi-output (MIMO) processing techniques, Alamouti code is implemented and evaluated to perform for space time block coding (STBC) and space frequency block coding (SFBC) for UWA OFDM systems with the MIMO configuration of $2{\times}1$, at the same time, $1{\times}2$ maximum ratio combining (MRC) is performed for the purpose of comparison. The simulation results show that, with perfect channel estimation, SFBC failed to work duo to the serious frequency selectivity of UWA channel environments. When the practical channel estimation is applied, in the case of STBC, the proposed 4-column pilot pattern gives better performance about 7dB than SISO system.

A multiple description coding (MDC) scheme for 3-D Data is presented. First, a plane-based 3-D data is split into two descriptions, each of which has identical contribution in 3-D surface reconstruction. In order to maximize the visual quality of reconstructed 3-D data, then, plane parameters are modified according to channel error condition. Finally, these descriptions are compressed and transmitted over distinct channels. In decoder, if two descriptions are available, we reconstruct a high quality 3-D data. If only one description is transmitted, however, 3-D surface recovery scheme reduces artifacts on erroneous 3-D surface, yielding a smooth 3-D surface. Therefore, the proposed algorithm guarantees acceptable quality reconstruction of 3-D data even though one channel is totally lost.

According to information theory, non-orthogonal transmission can achieve the multiple-user channel capacity with an onion-peeling like successive interference cancellation (SIC) based detection followed by a capacity approaching channel code. However, in multiple antenna system, due to the unideal characteristic of the SIC detector, the residual interference propagated to the next detection stage will significantly degrade the detection performance of spatial data layers. To overcome this problem, we proposed a modified power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (P-NOMA) scheme joint designed with space-time coding for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) NOMA system. First, with proper power allocation for each user, inter-user signals can be separated from each other for NOMA detection. Second, a well-designed quasi-orthogonal space-time block code (QO-STBC) was employed to facilitate the SIC-based MIMO detection of spatial data layers within each user. Last, we proposed an optimization algorithm to assign channel coding rates to balance the bit error rate (BER) performance of those spatial data layers for each user. Link-level performance simulation results demonstrate that the proposed time-space-power domain joint transmission scheme performs better than the traditional P-NOMA scheme. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is of low complexity and easy to implement.

OFDM technique uses multiple sub-carriers for the data transmission. Therefore, bit error rate increases because of inter-carrier interference caused by nonlinear high power amplifier and carrier frequency offset. Wireless OFDM transmission over multi path fading channels is characterized by small transmission gain in multiple sub-carrier frequency interval. Therefore bit error rate increases because of burst errors. Inter-leaver and convolution error control coding are effective for the reduction of this burst error. Pilot symbol is used for the channel estimation in OFDM systems. However, imperfect channel estimates in this systems degrade the performance. The performance of this convolution coding OFDM systems using inter-leaver, gauged by the bit error rate, is analyzed considering the nonlinear high power amplifier, carrier frequency offset and channel estimation error.

Recent studies have been received much attention on underwater laser communication, which is capable of high data rate. However, in underwater laser communication, distortions caused by absorption and scattering induced performance degradation. A typical way to improve performance is to apply channel coding technique. In the beginning of studies, simple methods such as RS and BCH coding techniques were applied. However, due to distance expansion and performance improvement, channel coding methods with low error probability such as LDPC coded method were applied. In this paper, we analyzed the performance according to the size of the code word N, the distance between the transceivers and the size of the M of the M-ary PPM modulation scheme. Simulation results show that parameter M of M-ary PPM is most effect on performance.
This paper addresses schemes which securely transmit voice and data information under the worst communication environment using the frequency hopping(FH) communication system to avoid monitoring or interference against enemy. In case of using the conventional FEC and bit interleaving scheme. the processing time for error control coding and bit interleaving due to system complexity is highly demanded. In this paper. the effective information coding scheme of maprity error correction and block interleaving compatible to the proposed FH communication system is proposed to transmit voice or data (I6Kbps. 4.8Kbps. 2.4Kbps. 1.2Kbps, O.6Kbps) under the worst FH communication channel. In transmitter. low rate data signals are configured to majority data blocks. and transmitted repeatedly to FH channel which are structured to 20Kbps hopping frame cells. In receiver. the received data are decoded block by block, and taken majority error correction. Consequently. burst or random errors are corrected at the block deinterleaver and the majority decoder. The proposed coder structure reduces the coding/decnding processing time as well as the jamming interferences, and further simplify the data processing complexity for FH communication. Improved performance of the proposed scheme was verified under simulated channel environments.

In this paper, a binary-coded physical-layer network coding (PNC) is considered when high-order modulation techniques are used at source nodes in wireless communication environments. In the conventional PNC schemes, tight power control and phase compensation are required at a relay node. However, they may not be feasible in practical wireless communication environments. Thus, we do not assume the pre-equalization in this paper, and we only utilize the channel state information at receiver (CSIR). We propose a signal detection method for the binary-coded PNC with high-order modulation, such as QPSK and 16QAM, at the source nodes, while the conventional scheme only consider the BPSK at source nodes. We also analyze the bit-error performance of the proposed technique in both uncoded and coded cases.

The increasing demands on low-power, and low-complexity video encoder have been motivating extensive research activities on distributed video coding (DVC) in which the encoder compresses frames without utilizing inter-frame statistical correlation. In DVC encoder, contrary to the conventional video encoder, an error control code compresses the video frames by representing the frames in the form of syndrome bits. In the meantime, the DVC decoder generates side information which is modeled as a noisy version of the original video frames, and a decoder of the error-control code corrects the errors in the side information with the syndrome bits. The noisy observation, i.e., the side information can be understood as the output of a virtual channel corresponding to the orignal video frames, and the conditional probability of the virtual channel model is assumed to follow a Laplacian distribution. Thus, performance improvement of DVC systems depends on performances of the error-control code and the optimal reconstruction step in the DVC decoder. In turn, the performances of two constituent blocks are directly related to a better estimation of the parameter of the correlation channel. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to estimate the parameter of the correlation channel and also a low-complexity version of the proposed algorithm. In particular, the proposed algorithm minimizes squared-error of the Laplacian probability distribution and the empirical observations. Finally, we show that the conventional algorithm can be improved by adopting a confidential window. The proposed algorithm results in PSNR gain up to 1.8 dB and 1.1 dB on Mother and Foreman video sequences, respectively.
Adaptive Modulation & Coding (AMC) is the method of varying the modulation and coding scheme for the changeable wireless channel environment. WiBro use AMC method because it has a very large variation caused by mobility interference and other cell interference. In this paper, we will compare and analysis the method of selecting the optimum MCS level for the efficiently use of mobile power consumption.
In this paper, forward error control coding in multicarrier direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems is considered. In order to accommodate a number of coding rates easily and make the encoder and do-coder structure simple, we use the rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code. We obtain data throughputs at several coding rates and choose the coding rate which has the highest data throughput in the SINR sense. To achieve maximum data throughput, a rate adaptive system using channel state information (the SINR estimate) is proposed. The SINR estimate is obtain by the soft decision Viterbi decoding metric. We show that the proposed rate adaptive convolutionally coded multicarrier DS/CDMA system can enhance spectral efficiency and provide frequency diversity.
