  • The purpose of this study is to prevent dispute due to change orders in construction projects and to handle change orders smoothly. For this purpose, this study analyzed arbitration cases caused by change order handled by the Korea Commercial Arbitration Board. Based on this, dispute factors were analyzed and change order management factors and management plans were presented. Change order management factors were derived from responsibility, contract, design, process, construction cost, and schedule management, and a detailed management plan according to the relevant factor was presented.

  • In a make-to-order manufacturing environment, the manufacturer's quotation information is important information used as basic information for bidding, receiving orders, and producing products in response to various customer demands. This quotation information is changed according to various factors such as customer demands, changes in product production environment, changes in drawing information of technical partners, and technological improvement of products. Due to this change, various changes occur in the quotation information that the manufacturer is preparing to reflect the customer's requirements. The change of quotation information according to these various change factors puts a lot of burden on the quotation management work from the standpoint of a make-to-order manufacturing company. In particular, the change of quotation information due to the change factors of quotation is inevitable and frequently occurs due to the requirements of the customer in the customer-oriented make-to-order production environment. In this paper, we propose a quotation change process based on the quotation creation process and propose a consistent and efficient quotation change processing method. To this end, the factors causing the change of quotation were defined, and the types of changes for each factor were defined. And it shows the procedure of applying the quotation change process to the quotation management system through the cases of each cause of the quotation change. In addition, in order to show the usefulness of the quotation change factors, the type of quotation change, the quotation change process, and the quotation system management, the proposed quotation change process and function was applied in the integrated quotation management system for the ship engine division of a typical make-to-order manufacturing company 'H'. As a result, it was confirmed that the proposed quotation change process and management system according to the quotation change factors were efficiently performed.

  • As uncertain factors are latent in a construction project by nature, a change order occurs frequently. The occurrence of change orders in construction projects conducted during construction phase is known to cause unexpected negative impacts such as cost overrun, schedule delay, quality problem, and claims in the post-process. Thus, an efficient management method is necessary to prevent and minimize change orders during construction phase when they occur frequently. This paper analyzed the causes of change orders and the impact factors that occur during the construction phase of a construction project and suggested a direction for change order database building.

  • This paper looks into how to enhance construction project management, focusing on the change order, which is often considered one of the major causes for construction delays, disputes, and claims in the middle east construction. First, this paper categorizes the major causes of change orders. It suggests a detailed classification standard for affecting factors resulting from change orders based on a case study result of an on-going construction project in the Middle East. In particular, this paper presents a method to apply a machine learning-based feature selection to quantify the importance of change order triggers and affecting factors. As a result, the case study identifies six major change order triggers and eight affecting factors. Also, a meaningful relationship between change order triggers and affecting factors by each category is presented. This paper will contribute to setting a clear guideline for change order management for the international plant construction field while helping prevent construction delays and cost run-ups by reducing the time required for change order resolution between project owners and contractors.

  • The oriental life change unit(LCU) models differ from the western LCU model in human behavior, life style, ideas, culture, and psychology factors. Especially, the cause and effect models by behavior scientific approach method have provided the accident proneness concept through the LCU factors. Therefore this paper describes the analytical results of the oriental LCU model and western LCU model. Especially, the death of parents and death of close friend in Korean LCU model feel more acute stress than the western factors. In the case of Korean LCU models between the unmarried and married workers living in the middle area of Korea, death of parents, change in family member's health, change to different line of work, and change in work hours and condition are significant at the significance level of 5%. The priority of life change factors in these models is approved in the order of death of parents, death of spouse, death of close family member, and death of close friend. Finally, the result of this paper can be easily used in order to minimize the industrial accidents by the job stress with the worker and safety manager in real fields.

  • There is a high confidence based on scientific evidence that climate is changing over time. Now climate change is considered as one of the challenges facing the construction industry. As no project is risk free and climate change has a strong impact on the different phases of the construction project lifecycle. This research aimed at providing a platform of knowledge for the construction management practitioners about the impacts of climate change on the construction projects lifecycle, identify the most dangerous climate change factors on the construction project lifecycle, and identify the most affected phase by climate change factors through the construction projects lifecycle. The study depended on the opinions of civil engineers who have worked in the construction projects field among the reality of Gaza Strip. Questionnaire tool was adopted as the main research methodology in order to achieve the desired objectives. The questionnaire included 127 factors in order to obtain responses from 88 construction practitioners out of 98 representing 89.79% response rate about the influence of climate change on the generic lifecycle of construction projects. The results deduced that the most significant influence on the construction project lifecycle was related to the extreme weather events, rainfall change, and temperature change respectively. There was a general agreement between the respondents that the most affected phase by temperature, rainfall, and extreme weather events is the execution phase. The results also asserted with a high responses scale on the need to alternative procedures and clear strategies in order to face the climate change within construction industry.

  • A contingency model of outsourcing is developed from the information systems (IS) literature and strategic management literature in order to assess the following question: What factors influence change in the extent to which an organization outsources IS functions? Based on the literature, this study identifies four IS factors-gaps in information quality, IS support quality, IS staff quality, and IS cost effectiveness-and three organizational factors-the gap in financial performance, strategic orientation, and the role of information technology in an organization-that influence the change in degree of outsourcing. These factors are hypothesized to influence the change in the extent of an organization's outsourcing of IS functions. From a mail survey of 188 top IS executives in U.S. companies, the results of analysis of covariance and bivariate correlational and multivariate regression analyses provide the following major findings: (a) This study found support for the proposed research model. (b) The change in the degree of IS outsourcing is determined by gaps in information quality, IS support quality, IS cost effectiveness, and financial performance and by the role of IT among IS and organizational factors.

  • The conventional management which had economic requirement such as productivity, competition, customer satisfaction, and return needs the environmental management in order to meet a change of the external situation such as the environmental requirement (such as resources reduction, pollution prevention, and waste reduction). However, there have been a few studies which try to investigate internal factor and to regard external factors as negative ones. This paper proposes the external factors are significant to the performance. Several hypotheses were developed regarding the relationships. Based on the collected data from 126 firms, the hypotheses were analyed with SPSS.

  • The more the lift environment eastern idea, culture, factory automation system and information technology complicates, the more the various human error brings about. It brings about all kind of accidents and occupational diseases. Also the death and sickness or injury by psychological stress among the human error has increased every year. Therefore this paper describes the Korean lift change unit model through statistical testing with the proposed life change unit factors on the married workers living the middle area. The proposed model can be simply used in order to minimize the industrial accident and human error in real fields. Finally, the result will be helpful for the better safety management.

  • By the effect of globalism and information the workplace environment is complicated and diversified little by little. The job stress due to the life style, the idea and culture, and the automated facility system etc. is to a tendency which compared to increase more. It will not be able to prevent a industrial accident basically because the oriental and western life style is different. Therefore this paper presents the Korean life change unit model through statistical testing in order to minimize industrial accident with the proposed life change unit factors on the workers living In the middle area. Finally, the analytical result of this paper can be easily used in order to minimize the industrial accidents by the job stress with the worker and the occupational safety & health manager in real fields.
