This study proposed the analysis of mass position detection and modified stiffness due to the change of the mass and stiffness of structure by using the original and modified dynamic characteristics. The method is applied to examples of a cantilever and 3 degree of freedom by modifying the mass. The predicted detection of mass positions and magnitudes are in good agrement with these from the structural reanalysis using the modified mass.
Dispersion behaviors of SiC particles and microstructures in Al-2%Si/SiCp composite prepared by Rheo-compocasting were studied with change of fabrication conditions(slurry temperature, agitation time) and additions of Mg($0{\sim}3wt.%$). Also, the microhardness change of matrix, interface and total in composites were examined with additions of Mg($0{\sim}3wt.%$). The dispersion of particles in the composites became relatively homogeneous with increase of Mg additions, agitation time and decrease of slurry temperature. Rate of occupied area by particle in matrix was increased as increase of Mg additions due to improvement of wettability between SiC particle and matrix. A favorable composites were obtained by melting under Ar atmospheric SiCp injection and bottom pouring system. According to the analysis of X-ray diffraction, $Mg_2Si$, $Al_4C_3$, $SiO_2$ and MgO, etc, intermetallic compounds were formed by chemical interreaction at interface of matrix and particles. The microhardness of interface is higher than that of matrix due to more strengthening of above intermetallic compounds. It was considered that the total hardness of the composites is improved by dispersing of SiCp and addition of Mg.

The competitive power of technologies is required for survival of enterprises in the social environments that change rapidly. So the strategy of technology development becomes more and more important. For the establishment of strategy, the situational analysis and the forecasting analysis are executed and they include the technology assessment and the technological forecasting. The technology assessment is systematical examination and analysis of the present status of technology. Among the various methods of technology assessment, Matrix Method is one of the usual methods. This research is intended to find out the problems and the difficulties in the current Matrix Method, and to improve the method, finally to help the R&D departments of enterprises applying the method. This suggested matrix(TSM Technology Shift Matrix) method is designed so that one can judge the current situation of technology and future expectation, by moving the matrix which is placed to the upside of the basic matrix.

Electrical resistance change measurements were performed, to detect fatigue damage of a quasi-isotropic CFRP and cross-ply CFRP laminates. A four-probe method was used to measure the exact electrical resistance change. A three-probe method was used to measure the electrical contact resistance change, during long cyclic loading. The specimen side surface was observed using a video-microscope to detect damage. The measured electrical resistance changes were compared with the observed damage. The results of this study show that the electrical resistance increase of the quasi-isotropic laminate was caused by a delamination crack between ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ plies. Matrix cracking caused a small electrical resistance increase of the cross-ply laminate, but the decreased electrical resistance caused by the shear-plastic deformation impedes matrix-cracking detection.
Previous OD matrix estimation methods from link traffic counts have focused on the formulation of mathematical model and its solution algorithm. Thereby those methods have assumed that true or real OD is similar to the target OD and paid little attention to the properties of the change of OD structure. Although it is general situation that each OD pair increases or decreases due to significant land use and to large time variation between target OD with real OD, those methods have set unrealistic assumptions that target OD increases or decreases uniformly and that the OD structure does not change. Therefore those methods have showed poor performance of OD estimation in general situation. To cope with the problem. this paper suggests a new concept of OD matrix structure and shows the shortcomings of previous method′s dependancy on target OD matrix. We divide "OD trips" into "OD scale" and "OD structure". Where OD scale is a quantitative magnitude of OD trips and "OD structure" is ordinal OD scale. This paper use the same solution algorithm developed by Baek et al. (2000) for analysing the OD structure. Results of numerical examples show that the performance of the method is better than that of previous methods, while the previous methods have better performance in estimation only when OD trips increase or decrease. In addition to, if OD structure does not change, the results show that the error of estimation is low relatively regardless of the large difference of trips between target OD and real OD. This paper also shows that the model performance on OD structure and on OD trips is low as the number of origins that OD structure is changed increase. From the results we suggest that the change of OD structure can be more important information than the difference between target OD and real OD in OD estimation steps.

This study proposed the method of the multi-crack detection using the sensitivity coefficient matrix which is calculated from the change of eigenvalues and eigenvectors before and after the crack. Each crack is modeled by a rotational springs. The method is applied to the cantilever beam with miulti-crack. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors are determined for different crack locations and depths. The prediction of multi-crack detection are in good agreement with the results of structural reanalysis.
Breast implants whether used for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes can be placed in pockets either above or below the pectoralis major muscle, depending on clinical circumstances such as subcutaneous tissue volume, history of radiation, and patient preference. Likewise, cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) can be placed above or below the pectoralis major muscle. When a patient has both devices, knowledge of the pocket location is important for procedural planning and for durability of device placement and performance. Here, we report a patient who previously failed subcutaneous CIED placement due to incision manipulation with prior threatened device exposure requiring plane change to subpectoral pocket. Her course was complicated by submuscular migration of the CIED into her breast implant periprosthetic pocket. With subcutaneous plane change being inadvisable due to patient noncompliance, soft tissue support of subpectoral CIED placement with an acellular biologic matrix (ABM) was performed. Similar to soft tissue support used for breast implants, submuscular CIED neo-pocket creation with ABM was performed with durable CIED device positioning confirmed at 9 months postprocedure.

Contaminant retardation factor is derived from the colloidal and contaminant transport equations for a four-phase porous medium: an aqueous phase, two mobile colloidal phases, and a solid matrix. It is assumed that the contaminant sorption to solid matrix and colloidal particles and the colloidal deposition on solid matrix follow the linear isotherms. The behavior of the contaminant retardation factor in response to the change of model parameters is examined employing the experimental data of Magee et al. (1991) and Jenkins and Lion (1993). In the four-phase system, the contaminant retardation factor is determined by both the contaminant association with solid matrix and colloidal particles and the colloidal deposition on solid matrix. The contaminant mobility is enhanced when the affinity of contaminants to mobile colloids increases. In addition, as the affinity of colloids to solid matrix decreases, the contaminant mobility increases.
In this paper, eigenvalue perturbation theory and its applications for the augmented system matrix are described. This theory is quite useful in the cases where any change in a system parameter results in signifiant changes to most of the elements of the augmented matrix or where the forming of sensitivity matrix so complicate. And AMEP(augmented matrix eigenvalue perturbation) for the excitation system parameters are computed for analysis of small signal stability of KEPCO 215-machine 791-bus system.
