  • In this paper, we propose a method for generating graphic objects having realistic shadows inserted into video sequence for the enhanced augmented reality. Our purpose is to extend the work of [1], which is applicable to the case of a static camera, to video sequence. However, in case of video, there are a few challenging problems, including the camera calibration problem over video sequence, false shadows occurring when the video camera moves and so on. We solve these problems using the convenient calibration technique of [2] and the information from video sequence . We present the experimental results on real video sequences.

  • This paper proposes a new Interior Point Method algorithm to improve the computation speed and solution stability, which have been challenging problems for employing the nonlinear Optimal Power Flow. The proposed algorithm is different from the tradition Interior Point Methods in that it adopts the Predictor-Corrector Method. It also accommodates the five minute dispatch, which is highly recommenced in modern electricity market. Finally, the efficiency and applicability of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated with a case study.

  • One of the challenging problems in dynamic scene analysis is the correspondence problem. Points and lines have been two major entities for establishing the correspondence among suxcessive frmes and gave rise to discrete approach to dynamic scene analysis. SOme researchers take continuous approach to analyse the motion. There it is usually assumed that some sort of region correspondence has already been established. In this paper, we propose a method based on fuzzy membership function for solving region correspondence problem.

  • The problem of productivity improvement is one of the most challenging problems facing the world economy. This paper studies an analysis of improving personal-computer(PC) company productivity through factory automation. It attempts to analyze value added productivity at the company level. The index measured will effectively help managers supervise their companys. This study justifies that the proposed approach will stimulate manager's profit-motivation by providing them with value-oriented management instead of quantity-oriented method.

  • The productivity and quality are most challenging problems facing all companies. This paper presents a process improvement of the SMPS(switching mode power supply) assembly line through elimination of unnecessary operations, a proper factory layout, motion study, and line balancing techniques. The proposed assembly line increases the productivity by 23.9%, and decrease the proportion of nonconforming items by 48.9%.

  • China is facing the challenging problems in both the potential energy resource shortage and the serious environmental pollutions. The author suggests that nuclear energy could play an important role for ensuring the long term energy security in China. The technical problems to be solved for the sustainable development of nuclear energy in China are also discussed and the R&D work in next 20 years are briefly suggested to meet the requirements of nuclear energy development in China.

  • The basic function of a modern electric power system is to provide electric power to its customers at the lowest possible cost with acceptable reliability levels. The two aspects of economics and reliability often conflict and present power system managers, planners and operators with a wide range of challenging problems. Utilities may also be willing to provide higher reliability of power supply at no increased customer cost. Decision-making is a difficult task. In this paper, we present a method to calculate the optimal values of reliability indices for sectionalizing distribution line.

  • Lip canting is associated with facial asymmetry, and is one of the most challenging problems in surgical correction of facial deformities. The author corrected lip canting using bioabsorbable devices during orthognathic surgery. Soft tissue suspension procedures were performed on four patients with facial asymmetry. Lip lines improved for all patients. Over an observation period of five years, no complications were noted, nor did any late relapse develop. Furthermore, as time past, the effect of the Endotine suspension procedure increased probably due to induction of fibrosis on surrounding soft tissues.

  • SA, TS, GA and ACS are four of the main algorithms for solving challenging problems of intelligent systems. In this paper we consider Examination Timetabling Problem that is a common problem for all universities and institutions of higher education. There are many methods to solve this problem, In this paper we use Simulated Annealing, Tabu Search, Genetic Algorithm and Ant Colony System in their basic frameworks for solving this problem and compare results of them with each other.
