  • The present status and trend of oxide phosphor thin-film development for thin-film electroluminescent (TFEL) device application are presented in this paper. Recently, several newly developed types of bendable or bendable see-through oxide TFEL lamps have been fabricated using the TFEL technology with a newly developed bendable ceramic sheet, glass sheet or sapphire sheet substrate, which has become available on the market. Stable operation at high temperatures was obtained in double-insulating-layer-type TFEL lamps fabricated with a $Zn_2Si_{0.6}Ge_{0.}4O_4$:Mn thin-film emitting layer forming on translucent or transparent bendable sheet substrates.

  • In thick film resistors, the characteristics of the frit and the reaction between glass frit and conductor material play an important role for their electrical properties. In this study, various glass frits in the system of $60RO{\cdot}20SiO_2$ $15B_2O_3{\cdot}5Al_2O_3$(RO=PbO, ZnO, CdO; mole%) were mixed with $RuO_2$ and coated on 96% alumina substrate. Only the glass frit containing PbO was reacted with $RuO_2$in$RuO_{2+}$-thick film resistor and produced the new crystalline phase of $Pb_2Ru_2O_{65}$. Their electrical resistivities strongly depend on the amount of $Pb_2Ru_2O_{65}$ crystalline phase obtained, which varied with firing temperature. The sheet resistivities of these resistors were varied from $10^3\; to\; 10^6\;{\Omega}/{\Box}$ depending on heat treatment, and the absolute value of TCR was decreased as the heat treatment temperature increaed. However, $RuO_2$ did not reacted with the glass frits containing ZnO nor CdO, and the resulting showed very high sheet resistivities.

  • Multilayer ceramic capacitors(MLCC) were prepared by laminating the layer of composition with dif-ferent Curie temperature to improve temperature coefficient in the Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 binary system. Green sheet was formed by tape casting using Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 and PbTiO3 synthesized with solid state reaction of PBO. Nb2O5 MgO and TiO2. Green sheet with electrode of 70Ag-30Pd was laminated under 300 kg/cm2 at 70$^{\circ}C$ and sintered at 1100$^{\circ}C$ for 2hr. Curie temperatues for MLCC with 10 layers of pure PMN and 0.9PMN-0.1PT were lowered to -22$^{\circ}C$ and 36$^{\circ}C$ respectively. MLCC with 7 layers of PMN and 3 layers of 0.9PMN-0.1PT showed nearly zero temperature coefficient of capacitance in the range of -20∼30$^{\circ}C$ and sum of dissipation factor of each layer.

  • A zeolite sheet (ceramic paper containing zeolite) made in a cylindrical configuration can be applied to a honeycomb rotor for the effective VOC removal. In this study, the zeolite sheet containing ZSM-5 was used as a support for Pt-loading, and its catalytic activity for the toluene combustion reaction was compared with those of the other Pt catalysts loaded on ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and cordierite honeycomb. Pt/zeolite sheet catalyst showed a higher activity for toluene combustion reaction than that of $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ or Pt/cordierite honeycomb. On the other hand, the dispersion of Pt particles loaded on the zeolite sheet was improved by the pretreatment with $NH_3-H_2O$ vapor at room temperature. Consequently, the pretreatment of Pt/zeolite sheet by $NH_3-H_2O$ vapor significantly enhanced the catalytic activation for toluene combustion reaction.

  • In this study, the heat radiation performance of COB LED according to the structure of thermoelectric device were compared. Thermoelectric device of the sheet copper structure and ceramic structure were used for bonding with the heating part of the COB LED. The temperature distribution in the bonding part of the thermoelectric device of COB LED was measured with a contact-type thermometer. The temperature variation of the thermoelectric device was measured by inputting the currents of 0.1A, 0.3A, 0.5A, and 0.7A. When 0.7A was applied, the temperature of the bonding part where there was a heat aggregation phenomenon of the COB LED was $59^{\circ}C$ for thermoelectric device of the sheet copper structure and $67^{\circ}C$ for the thermoelectric device of the ceramic structure. Therefore, the sheet copper thermoelectric device whose temperature was lower by $9^{\circ}C$ showed better heat radiation performance than those of the ceramic structure.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate membrane fouling caused by microalgal cells in submerged membrane systems consisting of polymeric and ceramic microfiltration membranes. In this study, one polymeric (flat-sheet, pore size: $0.2{\mu}m$) and two ceramic (flat-sheet, pore size: $0.2{\mu}m$ and cylindrical, pore size: $1{\mu}m$) membranes were used. Physical cleaning was performed with water and air to determine the potential for reversible and irreversible membrane fouling. The study results showed that substantial irreversible membrane fouling (after four filtration cycles, irreversible fouling degree 27% (cleaning with water) and 38% (cleaning with air)) occurs in the polymeric membrane. In cleaning studies performed using water and air on ceramic membranes, it was observed that compressed air was more effective (recovery rate: 87-91%) for membrane cleaning. The harvesting performance of the membranes was examined through critical flux experiments. The critical flux values for polymeric membrane with a pore size of $0.20{\mu}m$ and ceramic membranes with a pore size of $0.20{\mu}m$ and $1{\mu}m$ were ${\leq}95L/m^2hour$, ${\leq}70L/m^2hour$ and ${\leq}55L/m^2hour$, respectively. It was determined that critical flux varies depending on the membrane material and the pore size. To obtain more information on membrane fouling caused by microalgal cells, the characterization of the fouled polymeric membrane was performed. This study concluded that ceramic membranes with a pore size of $0.2-1{\mu}m$ in the submerged membrane system could be efficiently used for microalgae harvesting by cleaning the membrane with compressed air at regular intervals.

  • Recently, a lot of interest has been shown in structural maintenance managements of civil infrastructures. Many researchers have been conducted on various maintenance techniques and repair materials. Among other fiber materials the carbon fiber materials are especially focused on maintenance management of Highway Bridges. Extensive work has been done on Carbon Fiber Sheet (CFS). Nevertheless, Carbon Fiber Strand Sheet (CFSS) is a newly developed material, on which limited work has been done until now. Therefore, in this study bonding the CFSS to RC slab specimen and fatigue resistance evaluation has been conducted. The results demonstrated an increase of 25.3 times more reinforcement of RC slab compared to non-reinforced RC slab. Moreover, compared to CFS-bonded RC slab, The CFSS-bonded RC slab showed 1.2 times greater reinforcement.

  • Ag-ceramic composite materials were investigated as internal electrodes for multilayer ceramic actuators (MLCA). Ag-ceramic pastes were prepared by adding PZT-based ceramic powders to a Ag patse in a range of 0 to 50 wt.%. PZT/Ag-PZT multilayered laminates were fabricated by tape casting and fired at low temperatures below $950^{\circ}C$. The addition of ceramic into the Ag electrode resulted in a decrease in the thermal expansion mismatch between the electrode and the ceramic sheet. The maximum strain of PZT/Ag-PZT multilayered actuators were $9{\times}10^{-4}$ under an electric field of 2.5MV/m. In conclusion, Ag-PZT composite materials are efficient for low cost piezoelectric MLCAs.
