Nanoscale silica powder was synthesized from $SiO_2$ precursor solution using Tetraethyl Orthosilicate (TEOS) by polyacrylamide gel method. This process was of simplicity and provided ultrafine powders at relatively low calcination temperatures because polymer network could inhibit aggregation of $SiO_2$ powder. The particle size of Si02 powder was affected by the concentration of ammonium persulphate and N, N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide(BIS) in the gel precursor. The particle size decreased with increasing ammonium persulphate and was mininum size of 10 nm at 0.01 M. Also, the size decreased with increasing BIS concentration and was 5 nm at its concentration of 0.05 M.
Epitaxially grown $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ thin films on the MgO(100) substrates was prepared by dipping-pyrolysis process using metal naphthenates as starting materials. The films annealed at various temperatures were charactrized by X-ray diffraction $\theta$-2$\theta$ scans and pole-figure analysis ($\beta$ scanning). Highly c-axia oriented Bi4Ti3O12 films were crystallized by heat-treatment at 700$^{\circ}$ and 75$0^{\circ}C$ from precursor films pyrolyzed at 50$0^{\circ}C$. The X-ray pole-figure analysis indicated that the $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ thin films have an epitaxial relationship with the MgO(100) substrates.

Selectivity of SiC deposition on a Si substrate partially covered with a masking material was investigated by introducing HCl gas into hexamethyldisilane/H2 gas system during the deposition. the schedule of the precursor and HCl gas flows was modified so that the selectivity of SiC deposition between a Si substrate and a mask material should be improved. It was confirmed that the selectivity of SiC deposition was improved by introducing HCl gas. Also, the pulse gas flow technique was effective to enhance the selectivity.
Duplex microstructure of zirconia and alumina has been achieved via an organic-inorganic solution technique. Zirconium 2,4-pentanedionate, aluminum nitrate and polyethylene glycol were dissolved in ethyl alcohol without any precipitation. The organicinorganic precursor gels were turned to porous powders having volume expansion through explosive, exothermic reaction during drying process. The volume expansion was caused by abrupt decomposition of the organic groups in the gels during the vigorous exothermic reaction. The volume expanded, porous powders were crystallized and densified at 1500$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. At the optimum amount of the PEG polymer, the metal cations were well dispersed in the solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. The polymer content also affected on the specific surface area of the synthesized powder and the grain size of the sintered composite.

Plate-shaped inorganic particles are coated onto a stainless steel substrate by the electrophoretic deposition of a precursor slurry which includes the inorganic particles of $Al_2O_3$ and polymer resin in mixed solvents to mimic the abalone shell structure, which is a composite of plate-shaped inorganic particles and organic interlayer binding materials with a layered orientation. The process parameters of the electrophoretic deposition include the voltage, coating time, and conductivity of the substrate. In addition, the suspension parameters are the particle size, concentration, viscosity, conductivity, and stability. We prepared an organic-inorganic composite coating with a high inorganic solid content by arraying the plate-shaped $Al_2O_3$ particles and electrophoretic resin via an electrophoretic deposition method. We analyzed the effect of the slurry composition and the electrophoretic deposition process parameters on the physical, mechanical and thermal properties of the coating layer, i.e., the thickness, density, particle orientation, Young's modulus and thermogravimetric analysis results.

The rod-shaped $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ particles were synthesized via a topotactic reaction, in which goethite (${\alpha}-FeOOH$) particles are the main constituents. The phases, microstructures and magnetic properties of these particles were studied using XRD, FE-SEM and VSM. The precursor solution consisted of $NiSO_4{\cdot}xH_2O$, $ZnSO_4{\cdot}xH_2O$, goethite and D.I. water werereacted at four different temperatures (50, 70, 90, $100^{\circ}C$) to generate four differently precipitated particles respectively. During the co-precipitation reaction, the pH of the solution was maintained at 8.0 using NaOH. The particles co-precipitated and calcined at a temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, exhibited a rod-shape similar to its original goethite, which means that the shape of Ni-Zn ferrite particles can be topotactically controlled by the goethite. The particles synthesized at 70 and $90^{\circ}C$ have a saturation magnetization of 29 and 35 emu/g respectively; representing better values than the ones synthesized at the 50 and $100^{\circ}C$, in which some second phases such as $Fe_2O_3$ were observed.

Tantalum nitrides ($Ta_3N_5$) have been developed to substitute the Cd based pigments for non-toxic red pigment. Various doping elements were doped to reduce the amount of high price Tantalum element used and preserve the red color tonality. Doping elements were added in the synthesizing process of precursor of amorphous tantalum oxides and then Tantalum nitrides doped with various elements were obtained by ammonolysis process. The average particle size of final nitrides with secondary phases was larger than the nitride without the secondary phases. Also secondary phases reduced the red color tonality of final products. On the other hand, final nitrides without secondary phase had orthorhombic crystal system and presented good red color. In other words, in the case of nitrides without secondary phases, doping elements made a solid solution of tantalum nitride. In this context, doping process controlled the ionic state of nitrides and the amount of oxygen/nitrogen in final nitrides affected the color tonality.

Since SiOC was introduced as an anode material for lithium ion batteries, it has been studied with different chemical compositions and microstructures using various silicon based inorganic polymers. Poly(phenyl carbosilane) is a SiOC precursor with a high carbon supply in the form of the phenyl unit, and it has been investigated for film applications. Unlike any other siloxane-based polymers, oxygen atoms must be utilized in an oxidation process, and the amount of oxygen is controllable. In this study, SiOC anodes were prepared using poly(phenyl carbosilane) with different heat treatment conditions, and their electrochemical properties as an anode material for lithium ion batteries were studied. In detail, cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge cycling behavior were evaluated using a half-cell. A SiOC anode which was prepared under a heat treatment condition at $1200^{\circ}C$ after an oxidation step showed stable cyclic performance with a reversible capacity of 360 mAh/g.
In the fields of the optics, precise machine, semiconducting processing, the micro-positioning actuators are required for the control of position in the submicron range. In this study, $Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-Pb({Zn}_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-Pb({Zr}_{1/2}Ti_{1/2})O_3$ ceramics were fabricated by solid state reaction. The structural, dielectric and electric properties were investigated for sintering condition. The specimen sintered at $1,150(^\circ}C)$ for 1hr, had the highest density and dielectric contant. The resistivity, dielectric and density were increased with increasing PZN contents.
Ultrafine lead magnesium niobate $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}) O_3$ (PMN) powders have been successfully prepared via a micro-emulsion processing technique. By stepwise hydrolysis using aqueous as the precipitant, hydroxide precursor was obtained from nitrate solutions dispersed in the nanosized aqueous domains of a microemulsion consisting of cyclohexane, non-ionic surfactant (NP5+NP9) and an aueous phase. Upon calcination of the microemulsion-derived precursor at $800^{\circ}C$, PMN powders with 100% perovskite phase was obtained.
