$NbC_x-C_{1-x}/Y_2O_3$ 박막코팅을 이용한 $Al_2O_3/Ti$ 계면특성향상 -(2) 계면특성평가 (Enhanced $Al_2O_3/Ti$ Interfacial Properties Using $NbC_x-C_{1-x}/Y_2O_3$ Interlayers-(2) Determination of the Interfacial Properties)

  • Two NbCx-C1-x/Y2O3/Ti sputter-coated Al2O3 substrates (L 5.5 cm$\times$W 0.5 cm) were diffusion bonded together using hot press method at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours under 1 MPa of applied pressure. 4 points bending tests were used to evaluate the mechanical performance of these precracked laminate beams. Two types of mechanical responses were observed: crack penetration through the interface for x=0.75, 1 and crack deflection into an interface for x=0.25, 0.5. The Al2O3/NbCx-C1-x/Y2O3/Ti system suggested here has been proves to be effective for the thermokinetical stability and tailorability of the interfaces of Al2O3/Ti composites at 95$0^{\circ}C$.

SiC/$SiO_2$ 계면의 고온 기공발생에 관한 열역학적 계산 (Thermodynamic Calculations of High Temperature Bubble Formation at SiC/$SiO_2$ Interface)

  • Numerous researchers have observed the bubble fromation at SiC/SiO2 interface from 130$0^{\circ}C$ to 1$700^{\circ}C$. According to thermodynamic calculation, the bubble could be formed from the microscopic impurities which result from the chemical vapor deposition of SiC. When C-impurity is present at the interface, it is calculated that the bubble is formed at 1511$^{\circ}C$ and when Si is present, the bubble is formed at 177$0^{\circ}C$. These results are very close to the prior observations, but the calculation can not explain the observation of bubble below 150$0^{\circ}C$.

  • For the plasma sprayed as well as the EB-PVD thermal barrier coatings, the fracture paths within the oxidation products developed at the interface between the partially stabilized zirconia ceramic coating and NiCoCrAlY bond coat during cyclic thermal oxidation has been investigated. It was observed that the fracture in the oxidation products primarily took place within the oxide such as $Ni_{1-x}Co_3(Al_,Cr)_2O_4$ or at the interface between the oxide and $Al_2O_3$. It was found that Al2O3 developed first, followed by the Ni/Co/Cr rich oxides such as ,,$Ni_{1-x}Co_x(Al_,Cr)_2O_4$ $Cr_2O_3$and NiO at the interface between the ceramic coating and the bond coat in a cyclic high temperature environment. It was therfore concluded that the formation of the oxide containing Ni, Cr and Co was a life-limiting event for thermal barrier coatings during cyclic thermal oxidation.

초음파현미경에서 V(z) 곡선을 이용한 세라믹/금속 접합계면의 비파괴평가 (Nondestructive Evaluation of Ceramic/Metal Interface Using the V(z) Curve of Scanning Acoustic Microscope)

  • A leaky surface acoustic wave (LSAW) velocity was measured using a scanning acoustic microscope on the ceramic/metal interface in order to investigate material properties. The inverse Fourier transform (IFFT) of the V(z) curve contains the reflectance function of a liquid-specimen interface. So, the longitudinal, transverse, and Rayleigh wave velocities for each layer are obtained by the inversion of the V(z) curve at the same time. This paper contains mainly the experimental procedure for measurements of the LSAW velocity, and the results obtained for the velocity variation of individual layer after the thermal shock. It is shown that this method is useful in measuring the material properties under external stress.

VC의 첨가에 따른 Fe-TiC계의 미세조직변화 (Effect of VC Addition on the Microstructural Evolution of Fe-TiC Cermet)

  • The effect of VC addition on the microstructural evolution of Fe-TiC cermet has been investigated. The microstructures of the Fe-TiC varied with the amount of VC addition. The addition of 1wt% VC enhanced the instability of liquid-solid interface ; the dissolving interface showed round shape instead of facetted one which was ascribed to the increase of lattice mismatch between TiC and solid-solution carbide. in the speci-men with 10wt% VC the new set of solid-solution carbide grains of uniform and small size was formed in-side coarse TiC particles by diffusion induced recrystallizatin (DIR). With increasing the heat-treatment time fine recrystallized grains were dispersed homogeneously in the matrix and resulted in the increase in fracture strength.

Enhanced Electrochemical Reactivity at Electrolyte/electrode Interfaces of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells with Ag Grids

  • The specific role of current collectors was investigated at the electrolyte/electrode interface of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Ag grids were fabricated as current collectors using electrohydrodynamic (EHD) jet printing for precise control of the grid geometry. The Ag grids reduced both the ohmic and polarization resistances as the pitch of the Ag grids decreased from $400{\mu}m$ to $100{\mu}m$. The effective electron distribution along the Ag grids improved the charge transport and transfer at the interface, extending the active reaction sites. Our results demonstrate the applicability of EHD jet printing to the fabrication of efficient current collectors for performance enhancement of SOFCs.

Polish of interface areas between zirconia, silicate-ceramic, and composite with diamond-containing systems

  • PURPOSE. Fractures, occlusal adjustments, or marginal corrections after removing excess composite cements result in rough surfaces of all-ceramic FPDs. These have to be polished to prevent damage of the surrounding tissues. The aim of this study was to evaluate the roughness of zirconia, silicate-ceramic, and composite after polish with different systems for intraoral use. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Each set of 50 plates was made of zirconia, silicate-ceramic, and composite. All plates were ground automatically and were divided into 15 groups according to the treatment. Groups Zgrit, Sgrit, and Cgrit received no further treatment. Groups Zlab and Slab received glaze-baking, and group Clab was polished with a polishing device. In the experimental groups Zv, Sv, Cv, Zk, Sk, Ck, Zb, Sb, and Cb, the specimens were polished with ceramic-polishing systems "v", "k", and "b" for intraoral use. Roughness was measured using profilometry. Statistical analysis was performed with ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$-procedure with the level of significance set at P=.05. RESULTS. All systems reduced the roughness of zirconia, but the differences from the controls Zgrit and Zlab were not statistically significant (P>.907). Roughness of silicate ceramic was reduced only in group Sv, but it did not differ significantly from both controls (P>.580). Groups Cv, Ck, and Cb had a significantly rougher surface than that of group Clab (P<.003). CONCLUSION. Ceramic materials can be polished with the tested systems. Polishing of interface areas between ceramic and composite material should be performed with polishing systems for zirconia first, followed by systems for veneering materials and for composite materials.

  • $CoSb_3$-based skutterudite compounds are candidate materials for thermoelectric power generation in the mid-temperature range (600 - 900 K) because their thermoelectric properties can be enhanced by doping and filling. The joining property of thermoelectric module electrodes containing thermoelectric materials is of great importance because it can dominate the efficiency of the thermoelectric module. This study examined the properties of $CoSb_3$/Al/Ti/CuMo joined by the spark plasma sintering technique. Titanium thin foil was used to prevent the diffusion of copper into $CoSb_3$ and Aluminum thin foil was used to improve the adhesion between $CoSb_3$ and Ti. The insertion of an Aluminum interlayer between the Ti and $CoSb_3$ was effective for joining $CoSb_3$ to Ti by forming an intermediate layer at the Al-$CoSb_3$ boundary without any micro cracks. Specifically, the adhesion strength of the Ti/Al/$CoSb_3$ joining interface showed a remarkable improvement compared with our previous results, without deterioration of electrical property in the interface.

  • Constitutional supercooling due to concentration gradient at solid-liquid interface in the melt can be avioded by increasing rotational speed for growing $LiNbO_3$ single crystals from the stoichiometric melt. Growth conditions for high quality crystals were determined by rotational speed by which other growth parameters were adjusted.
