  • In cold winter season, the apparatuses of heating and heater which warm up the interior of a room are necessary element and the used amount of these apparatuses from the year 2000 has been increased abruptly. But, the fire accident and the danger of fire are also increased. Therefore, 3D modelling is done by referring three kinds of the electric heaters as the heaters of ceramic, carbon and near infrared ray sold in the city for the design of more safe heating apparatuses in this study. The thermal analyses with these models are carried out and the durabilities due to the thermal deformation and stress are studied. By the background of the study results derived in this study ultimately, the durabilities of electric heater models due to each shape can be anticipated and contributed to the development of new heating apparatus with more safe resistance to fire. And it is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at design and show the esthetic sense.

  • The heat treatment performed during the welding of the structure should adjust the temperature of the structure in several steps in order to further improve the welding performance. This paper proposes a technique to control multiple SCR power converters to control the temperature of each ceramic heater at various stages according to a specified time.

  • The WO3 thin-film NOx sensor which is of practical use and includes the heater and the temperature sensor was fabricated. The WO3 thin films as a gas-sensing layer was deposited at ambient temperature in a high-vacuum resistance heated evaporator. The highest sensitivity of the WO3 thin-film sensor to NOx was obtained under the condition of the annealing temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$ and the operating temperature of 30$0^{\circ}C$. The gas sensing characteristics of this sensor was excellent, i.e. high sensitivity (Rgas/Rair in 3 ppm NO2=53) and fast response time (4 seconds).

  • Characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drops of fills for solar tower volumetric air receivers are experimentally investigated with the material and the thickness. The volumetric air receiver considered in this paper consists of a ceramic tube and fills are inserted in the ceramic tube. Air is used as the working fluid. Two materials, which are a honeycomb(diameter: 100mm, thickness: 30mm) and laminated mesh(diameter: 100mm, thickness: 1mm), are considered as the fills. In order to investigate the characteristics of heat transfer of fills, this volumetric air receiver is heated by an electric heater and air temperatures in ceramic tube are measured. Also, the radiative shields are installed to measure the only air temperature. In addition, the pressure losses are measured with the thickness of fills while the air goes through the fills inserted in an acrylic tube. The flow becomes turbulent and fully developed in front of the fills. The results show that the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the laminated mesh are superior to those of the honeycomb.
