  • The analysis of maritime traffic refers to the processes that are used to analyze the environmental characteristics of the target area and, based on this analysis, predict the traffic pattern of the vessels. In recent years, maritime traffic analysis has become significant with increase maritime traffic volume and expansion of VTS coverage area. In addition, maritime traffic analysis is also applicable in the safety assessment of port facilities and the VTS (Vessel Traffic Service). In this paper, we propose a method to analyze the vessels' traffic pattern by using the heat map and the centroid method. This method is efficient for the analysis of the vessel trajectory data where spatial characteristics change with time. In the experiments, the traffic density and centroid by time have were analyzed. Trajectory data collected at Mokpo harbor was adopted. Finally, we reviewed the experimental results to verify the feasibility of the proposed method as a maritime traffic analysis method.

  • This study proposed a procedure to improve the error defection of attached cadastral maps using digital map data. In addition, this study also provided the direction for the accuracy improvement of attached cadastral maps by comparing analysis methods. - such as centroid, Lee Sallee shape index, and area index. The analysis is performed as follows. First, by using centroid measurement, the center point of cadastral maps and attached cadastral maps are compared. Secondly by using Lee Sallee shape measurement, the location accuracy of range area is investigated. Thirdly, by using area measurement, the range area within allowable error scope is verified. Based on analysis, the discrepancy between cadastral maps and the attacked cadastral maps are detected as follows; 98.2% from Lee Sallee shape index, 41.8% from centroid, 15.4% from area index in the whole error.

  • This paper presents the method for the extraction of the lungs part from the other parts for the diagnostic of the lungs part. The proposed method is based on the calculation of the connected component and the centroid of the image. Connected Component labeling is used to label the each objects in the binarized image. After the labeling is done, centroid value is calculated for each object. The filing operation is applied which helps to extract the lungs part from the image retaining all the parts of the original lungs image. The whole process is explained in the following steps and experimental results shows it's significant.

  • A new image compression method to preserve edge characteristics in reconstructed images using an unsupervised learning neural is proposed in this paper. By the unsupervised competitive learning which generalizes previously proposed Centroid Neural Network(CNN) algorithm with the geometric characteristics of edge area and statistical characteristics of image data, more codevectors are allocated in the edge areas to provide the more accurate edges in reconstructed image. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives improved edge in reconstructed images when compared with SOM, Modified SOM and M/R-CNN.

  • Archimedes showed that the area between a parabola and any chord AB on the parabola is four thirds of the area of triangle ${\Delta}ABP$, where P is the point on the parabola at which the tangent is parallel to the chord AB. Recently, this property of parabolas was proved to be a characteristic property of parabolas. With the aid of this characterization of parabolas, using centroid of triangles associated with a curve we present two conditions which are necessary and sufficient for a strictly locally convex curve in the plane to be a parabola.

  • In this paper, the algorithms which can track the two dimensional moving circular object using simple vision system are described. In order to track the moving object, the process of finding the object feature points - such as centroid of the object, corner points, area - is indispensable. With the assumption of two-dimensional circular moving object, the centroid of the circular object is computed from three points on the object circumference. Different kinds of algorithms for computing three edge points - simple x directional detection method, stick method. T-shape method are suggested. Through the computer simulation and experiments, three algorithms are compared from the viewpoint of detection accuracy and computational time efficiency.

  • Many technical methods are used for nondestructive testing field for solid materials. Among those, ultrasonic inspection methods are widely used and one of the popular methods involves the extraction of an appropriate set of features followed by the use of a neural network for the classification of the signals in the feature space. This paper describes an approach which uses LMS method to determine the coordinates of the ultrasonic probe followed by the use of SAFT with centroid technique to estimate the location of the ultrasonic reflector. The method is employed for classifying UT-NDE signals from the steam generator tubes in a nuclear power plant. The classification results are presented for the ultrasonic signals from cracks and deposits within steam generator tubes.

  • It is important to find the random estimation points in wireless sensor network. A link quality indicator (LQI) is part of a network management service that is suitable for a ZigBee network and can be used for localization. The current quality of the received signal is referred as LQI. It is a technique to demodulate the received signal by accumulating the magnitude of the error between ideal constellations and the received signal. This proposed model accepts any number of random estimation point in the network and calculated its nearest anchor centroid node pair. Coordinates of the LQI sphere are calculated from the pair and are added iteratively to the initially estimated point. With the help of the LQI and weighted centroid localization, the proposed system finds the position of target node more accurately than the existing system by solving the problems related to higher error in terms of the distance and the deployment of nodes.

  • A novel adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) strategy based on the Moment-of-Fluid (MOF) method for volume-tracking dynamic interface computation is presented. The Moment-of-Fluid method is a new interface reconstruction and volume advection method using volume fraction as well as material centroid. The mesh refinement is performed based on the error indicator, the deviation of the actual centroid obtained by interface reconstruction from the reference centroid given by moment advection process. Using the AMR-MOF method, the accuracy of volume-tracking computation with evolving interfaces is improved significantly compared to other published results.
