  • The study examines the prevalence and characteristics of school violence in elementary school, utilizing a census-based nationwide sample of 2,037 adults, 19 years of age and older. A structured questionnaire was administered, which reported their experiences of school violence retrospectively. The findings revealed that a third of the respondents were victims of one or more episodes of school violence during their elementary school years. Men reported much higher rates of victimization than women, and those from low-income families experienced more episodes of victimization than those from middle or high-income families. The study also showed that the rate of school violence is increasing among the younger generations.

  • A reliable analysis of consumer preference from a large amount of purchase data acquired in real time and an accurate customer characterization technique are essential for successful direct marketing campaigns. In this study, an optimal segmentation of post office customers in Korea is performed using a subspace projection-based clustering method to generate an accurate customer characterization from a high-dimensional census dataset. Moreover, a traditional temporal mining method is extended to an algorithm using the MapReduce framework for a consumer preference analysis. The experimental results show that it is possible to use parallel mining through a MapReduce-based algorithm and that the execution time of the algorithm is faster than that of a traditional method.

  • Observations of magnetic fields on scales up to several Mpc are important for understanding cluster and large-scale structure evolution. Our current census of such structures is heavily biased - towards fields of several $\mu$G, towards fields in deep potential wells, and towards high inferred field strengths m cooling flow and other clusters from improper analysis of rotation measure data. After reviewing these biases, I show some recent results on two relics that are powered in very different ways. I describe new investigations that are now uncovering weak diffuse fields in the outskirts of clusters and other low density environments, and the good prospects for further progress.

  • This study examines the 1980 Census and the 1987 Travel Survey data sets, in order to identify commuting trends in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. The commuting field of Seoul includes the cities and counties contiguous to Seoul, as well as Inchon, Suwon and Ansan City and Paju County. The study finds little support for the expansion of the commuting field toward distant counties of Kyonggi Province; instead an intensification of commuting within the field is more salient. The most prominent trend, within the city limit of Seoul, is that journey-to-work toward the city center has decreased whereas peripheral journeys increased considerably. The work trips have increased most in the southwestern sector of the city; a moderate increase in the northeastern and southwestern sectors; and decreases in the center and the northwestern sector of the city. Factorial analyses of the work trip data also reveal the emergence of sub-regions of journey-to-work in the peripheries of the city. Such a spatial pattern of commuting changes resemble that of population changes, and correspond in part to the layout of the subway system.

  • It is believed that the current census of star clusters in the Milky Way is far from being complete, because of high extinction. Taking advantage of recent wide-field infrared surveys (the WISE as well as 2MASS, UKIDSS GPS, and VVV), we search for new star clusters in the central region of the Milky Way (720 $deg^2$-wide area at |1| < $30^{\circ}$ and |b| < $6^{\circ}$). We find 1840 candidates by visual inspection of the WISE images. The spatial distribution of these candidates show a strong concentration along the Milky Way, showing that most of them belong to the Milky Way. Among them, 26 are probably star clusters, considering their morphology, color-magnitude diagrams, and the degree of central concentration of stars. Eighteen of them appear to be very young in the embedded phase, and six of them are considered to be relatively old, showing a developed red giant branch. Implications of the primary results will be discussed.

  • The fishery household economy survey is a sample survey which produce estimates on the fishery household economy and fishery management in Korea. We propose a sample design for this survey. This design is developed based on results of 1990 fishery census and Shi-Do is assumed to be subpopulation for Shi-Do estimates. Samples are selected by stratified two-stage cluster sampling in Shi-Do and income function is found for stratification. Fishery household income is estimated by a linear estimator.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop Water Quality Management System(WQMS), which performs calculating pollutant discharge and forecasting water quality with water pollution model. Operational water quality management requires not only controlling pollutants but acquiring and managing exact information. A GIS software, ArcView was used to enter or edit geographic data and attribute data, and MapObject was used to customize the user interface. PCI, a remote sensing software, was used for deriving land cover classification from 20 m resolution SPOT data by image processing. WQMS has two subsystems, Database Subsystem and Modelling subsystem. Database subsystem consisted of watershed data from digital map, remote sensing data, government reports, census data and so on. Modelling subsystem consisted of NSPLM(NonStorm Pollutant Load Model)-SPLM(Storm Pollutant Load Model). It calculates the amount of pollutant and predicts water quality. This two subsystem was connected through graphic display module. This system has been calibrated and verified by applying to Mokhyun stream watershed.

  • In this study, we took the census of the project satisfaction level of the employees who have participated in Six Sigma projects. We divided and measured the project satisfaction by the steps of performing the project (team building, execution, ownership and support step). We performed the analysis of variance to show the main factors of project satisfaction level, and the tests of homogeneity to know the relationship the business parts and among the job positions each. The results of analysis showed that the satisfactions of the team building and execution step were significant.

  • The changing trend of longevity from 1955 through 1985 and its interprovincal variation were studied with longevity rate as indicator. In order to detect the affecting factors of longevity rate, eleven urbanalizational, geographic-environmental, demographic and social-economic variables were employed to carry out multiple stepwise regression analysis. The data used for this study were from Population Census Reports 1955-1985 published by EPB and Year book of Public Health and Social Statistics 1986 published by Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and other reference. Subsequent to that longevity rate decreased during 1950's it has increased continuously by the yeat of 1980's. This trend was especially remarkable in the south area and the GIRI mountain area in Korea. The stepwise regression analysis shows that the longevity rates were significantly associated with the independent variables, and the dependent variables explained at the level of 93.7percent-99.9 percent. Longevity is a reflection of the demographic and socio-economic, environmental and health resourses factor etc., longevity problems cannot be dealt with in isolation. The possible research and services which could be provided by government will be discuss.

  • In order for handicapped people to maintain better humane life, it is necessary to get statistics of them in developing appropriate national policy. However, it is very difficult to obtain baseline statistics on regular or occasional basis. It's reason is mainly attributed to attitudes of their family's tendency to conceal any existence of such memeber in the household. As a result, the statis-tics on the handicapped population is very inaccurate and under satisfaction. We must produce such statistics periodically in time and with accuracy. Thus, this study porposes five methods which, we believe, can produce reliable statistics of thehandcapped population : 1) vitalization through enforcement of handicapped information into the registration system, 2) inclusion in population census of items related to handicapped information, 3) improvement of the physically handicapped population survey scheme, 4) utilization of hospital patients' records for development of the statistics, and 5) an estimation through the labor force survey.
