For systems with coexisting cellular and hot-spot cells in broadband orhogonal frequency and code division multiplexing (OFCDM) systems, a suitable cell search algorithm is proposed fur the common pilot channel (CPICH) in the forward link using separated I/Q channel cell specific codes(CSSC), in which the cellular cell specific scrambling code (CCSSC) is assigned to the in-phase (Q) pilot channel of all cellular cells, and the exclusive hot-spot cell specific scrambling code (HSCSSC) group is assigned to the quadrature (Q) pilot channel of all hot-spot cells. Therefore, the proposed algorithm enables a mobile station (MS) to search quickly for the most desirable hot-spot cell due to reducing the effect of CCSSC, when a MS wants to use a mobile internet. The computer simulation results show that the proposed cell search algorithm can achieve faster cell search time performance, compared to conventional cell search methods.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of the PCM cell search algorithm proposed for fast cell search of WCDMA systems. In order to improve both performance and complexity of the cell search algorithm standardized for WCDMA systems the PCM scheme uses a group of the polarization codes produced by a Gold code generator. The PCM scheme only uses one synchronization channel since the polarization codes modulated on P-SCH can replace the RS codes of S-SCH. Thus, the PCM reduces the BS's transmission power since only one synchronization channel can be used, and it can also reduce the complexity of receiver as compared with the conventional one. In this paper, by defining a numerical model, we analyze the performance of the PCM cell search algorithm in terms of detection probability and mean acquisition time. Consequently, we could demonstrate that the PCM cell search algorithm is superior to the standard WCDMA cell search algorithm.
In the W-CDMA system, cell search is one of the imporant functions of the mobile station searching for a cell and achieving spreading code and time synchronization to its downlink scrembling code. For the methods of cell search to optimize codes, three stages are considered: 1) slot synchronization, 2) frame synchronization, and 3) scrambling code identification. Channels for cell search are Primary Synchronization Channel (P-SCH), Secondary Synchronization Channel(S-SCH), and Common Pilot Channel (CPICH). In this paper, cell search is analyzed based on simulation. Rake receiver provides improvement of Performance as an increase of bandwidth because there are more available multipaths. In this paper, the performance of W-CDMA system employing RAKE receiver is evaluated by computer simulation over the types of ITU_R wideband channel model and spreading rate. The result shows that the performance of CDMA adapting RAKE receiver is improved by the increase of multipath components in equal level of the received power.
In this work, Cell search which is one of the important abilities of W-CDMA system in Reyleigh s fading channel is studied by using Cell Searcher of asynchronous IMT-2000 system(3GPP) and Cell - search simulation. For the methods of cell search to optimize codes, three stages are considered: 1) slot synchronization, 2) frame synchronization, and 3) scrambling code identification. It is found that key system parameters such as Primary Synchronization Channel (P-SCH), Secondary L Synchronization Channel(S-SCH), and Common Pilot Channel (CPCH) loading factor are optimized. It is noted that the smaller Optimal threshold value, the larger SNR of the received singnal. Therefore, It is important that the optimal threshold value is selected in the region of SNR

In this paper, we consider a problem of partitioning a search area into smaller rectangular regions, so that multiple platforms can conduct search operations independently without requiring unnecessary coordination among themselves. The search area consists of cells where each cell has some prior information regarding the probability of target existence. The detection probability in particular cell is evaluated by multiplying the observation probability of the platform and the target existence probability in that cell. The total detection probability within the search area is defined as the cumulative detection probability for each cell. However, since this search area partitioning problem is NP-Hard, we decompose the problem into three sequential phases to solve this computationally intractable problem. Additionally, we discuss a special case of this problem, which can provide an optimal analytic solution. We also examine the performance of the proposed approach by comparing our results with the optimal analytic solution.

This paper introduces a multi-cell search method for heterogeneous networks (HetNet), in which user equipments need to search multiple cells in its vicinity simultaneously. Due to the difficulty of acquiring channel informations for multiple cells, a non-coherent approach is preferred. In this paper, a non-coherent single-cell search scheme using a weighted vector is proposed, and the successive interference cancellation based multi-cell search algorithm is devised. In order to improve cell search performance, the weighted vector is designed in a way to exploit the general characteristic of wireless channel. Based on the fact that the performance of the proposed single-cell search scheme deviates slowly from the one using the optimal weighted vector, a universal weighted vector is also proposed, which shows the performance close to the optimal ones for various channel environments and signal-to-noise ratio regimes. Simulation results confirm that the proposed multi-cell search algorithm is capable of identifying cells more accurately with the help of the proposed single-cell search scheme, and can detect the remaining cells more effectively by removing the signals of the identified cells from the received signal.

It is very important to acquire the synchronization in a intercell asynchronous WCDMA system, and it is carried out through the three-step cell search process. The cell search can operate in a stepwise parallel manner, where each step works in pipelined operation, to reduce the cell search time. In case that the execution time is set to be the same in each step, excessive accumulations will be caused in both step 1 and step 3, because step 2 should take at least one frame for its processing. In general, the effect of post-detection integration becomes saturated as the number of the accumulations increases. Therefore, the stepwise parallel scheme does not give much enhancement. In this paper, the performance of the stepwise parallel processing for cell search in WCDMA system is analyzed over Rayleigh fading channels. Through the analysis, the effect of cell search parameters such as the number of accumulations in each step and the power ratio allocated among channels is investigated. In addition, the performance of the stepwise parallel cell search is improved by adjusting the execution time appropriately for each step and is compared with that of the conventional stepwise serial processing.

In UMTS terminal modem uses 3 step search procedure for initial cell search, which comprises 1) slot synchronization, 2) code group identification and frame synchronization, and 3) scrambling-code identification. The performance of initial cell search procedure depends on search parameters like observation time and threshold. The purpose of this paper is to get the optimal observation time and threshold of each step for minimum mean acquisition time. In this paper we induce mean detection time of each step and mean acquisition timefrom the model of 3 step search procedure using state diagram. Also we propose initial cell search algorithm which utilize window search method against initial oscillator error, and select an appropriate observation time and threshold of each step by the analysis of simulation and induced result. It is shown that the mean acquisition time in multipath fading channel can be shorter than 500ms by using the determined observation time and threshold of each step.

The 3-step cell search has been considered for fast acquisition of the scrambling code unique to a cell in the W -CDMA system. In this paper, the performance of the cell search scheme is analyzed in Rayleigh fading channels. And the system parameters for cell search scheme and the design parameters for the receivers are examined. The probabilities of detection, miss and false alarm for each step are derived in closed forms based on the statistics of CDMA noncoherent demodulator output. Through the analysis, the effect of threshold setting and post detection integration for each step is investigated, and the optimal values of the power allocation for the synchronization channels are also considered. The number of post-detection integrations for each step is a design parameter for the receiver, and the optimum values may depend on not only the power allocation for each channel related to the cell search, but the false alarm penalty time. It is shown that optimal values could be determined through the analysis. Also, the cumulative probability distribution of the average cell search time is obtained.
We investigate the stepwise parallel processing of the serial search which can success the co]1 search at low Ec/Io. The single path Rayleigh fading channel which is worst-case channel model is considered. The typical 3-step cell search is used. The probabilities of detection, miss and false alarm for each step are used in closed forms based on the statistics of CDMA noncoherent demodulator output. The optimal power allocation to each channel and The optimal number of post-detection integrations for each step is obtained. Also, the cumulative probability distribution of the average eel] search time for serial search methods are compared.
