  • Photoelectrochemical cell (PEC) is one of the attractive ways to produce clean and renewable energy. However, solar to hydrogen production via PEC system generally requires high external bias, because of material's innate electronic band potential relative to hydrogen reduction potential and/or charge separation issue. For spontaneous photo-water splitting, here, we design dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) and their monolithic tandem cell incorporated with a $BiVO_4$ photoanode. $BiVO_4$ has high conduction band edge potential and suitable band gap (2.4eV) to absorb visible light. To achieve efficient $BiVO_4$ photoanode system, electron and hole mobility should be improved, and we demonstrate a tandem cell in which $BiVO_4/WO_3$ film is connected to cobalt complex based DSSC.

  • Group technology(GT) is a manufacturing philosophy which identifies and exploits the similarity of parts and processes in design and manufacturing. A specific application of GT is cellular manufacturing. the first step in the preliminary stage of cellular manufacturing system design is cell formation, generally known as a machine-part cell formation(MPCF). This paper presents and tests a grouping gentic algorithm(GGA) for solving the MPCF problem and uses the measurements of e(ficacy. GGA's replacement heuristic used similarity coefficients is presented.

  • A frequency selective surface (FSS), whose unit cell consists of a ternary tree loop loaded with a modified tripole, is proposed to block multiple frequency bands. Target frequency bands correspond to Korean personal communication services, cellular mobile communication, and 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical bands. Through the adjustment of inter-element and inter-unit cell gaps, and adjustment of the length of elements, we present an FSS design method that makes the precise tuning of multiple resonance frequencies possible. Additionally, to verify the validity of our approach, simulation results obtained from a commercial software tool and experimental data are also presented.

  • Several design parameters for a 100 kW molten carbonate fuel cell stack was described. Approximately 170 cells are required to generate 100 kW at a current density of $125\;mA/cm^{2}$ with $6000\;cm^{2}$ cells. An overall heat balance was calculated to predict exit temperature. In order to limit the stack temperature in the range of $600-700^{\circ}C$, current load cannot exceed $75\;mA/cm^{2}$ at atmospheric operation. The 100 kW power is expected only under pressurization. Recycle of cathode gas by more than 50% is recommended to run the stack at $125\;mA/cm^{2}$ and 3 atm. Manifolds should be designed based on gas flow rates for the suggested operating condition.

  • In this paper, the design area of a fabricated solar cell has been analyzed with respect to its charge density. The mathematical calculation used for charge-density derivation was obtained from the 2001 version of a MATHCAD program. The parameter range for the calculations was ${\pm}1{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3}$, which is in the normal parameter range for n-type doping impurities ($7.0{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3}$) and also for p-type impurities ($4.0{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3}$). Therefore, it can be said that the fabricated solar-cell design area has a direct effect on charge-density changes.

  • For developing a new Tire Manufacturing Cell, the cooperation between the designer of facilities and the designer of system is very important. The purpose of this paper is to develop a simulation model that can be applied to the system design of Tire Manufacturing Cell. The mechanic characteristics of new facilities are obtained from facility design team and the simulation model is developed with SIMPLE++ using those input data. A model for estimating the number of tire drum required is also suggested and it is verified with numerical examples. The results of simulations can be fed back to the facility design team and used for modifying the structure of the facilities.

  • This paper explores the impact of gate shape changes on the size and density of foamed cells in microcellular foam injection molding. Five different gate shapes were examined while varying the amount of nitrogen gas(N2) injected for foaming. Analysis of the results showed that while average values did not change significantly, deviation values decreased by approximately 65% for cell size and 56% for density when 3.5wt% of nitrogen gas was injected in the film gate. Further analysis was conducted to verify this phenomenon, revealing that the contact area between the gate and product had the greatest impact. Our findings indicate that to ensure uniform generation of foamed cells in microcellular foaming product design, a gate with a wide contact area should be secured.
