  • A significant enhancement of the magneto-optical Faraday rotation and extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) in the cascaded double-fishnet (CDF) structure with periodic rectangular apertures is theoretically predicted by using the extended finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The results demonstrate that the transmittance spectrum of the CDF structure has two EOT resonant peaks in a broad spectrum spanning visible to near-infrared wavebands, one of them coinciding with the enhanced Faraday rotation and large figure of merit (FOM) at the same wavelength. It is most important that the resonant position and intensity of the transmittance, Faraday rotation and FOM can be simply tailored by adjusting the incident wavelength, the thickness of the magnetic layer, and the offset between two metallic rectangular apertures, etc. Furthermore, the intrinsic physical mechanism of the resonance characteristics of the transmittance and Faraday rotation is thoroughly studied by investigating the electromagnetic field distributions at the location of resonance. It is shown that the transmittance resonance is mainly determined by different hybrid modes of surface plasmons (SPs) and plasmonic electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) behavior, and the enhancement of Faraday rotation is mostly governed by the plasmonic electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) behavior and the conversion of the transverse magnetic (TM) mode and transverse electric (TE) mode in the magnetic dielectric layer.

  • In this paper, we design and analyze the performance of Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) techniques to the number of users for next-generation cellular systems. We perform Monte Carlo simulations with Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-Advanced) and confirm the performance from the graph of the Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF). From simulation results, we show the significant performance gain when CoMP technique is used and also show better performance when we apply the various schemes additionally as scheduling and precoding.

  • RBDO approach based on a sampling method with the Kriging metamodel and Constraint Boundary Sampling (CBS), which is sequential sampling method to generate metamodels is proposed. The major advantage of the proposed RBDO approach is that it does not require Most Probable failure Point (MPP) which is essential for First-Order Reliability Method (FORM)-based RBDO approach. The Monte Carlo Sampling (MCS), most well-known method of the sampling methods for the reliability analysis is used to assess the reliability of constraints. In addition, a Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) of the constraints is approximated using Moving Least Square (MLS) method from empirical distribution function. It is possible to acquire a probability of failure and its analytic sensitivities by using an approximate function of the CDF for the constraints. Moreover, a concept of inactive design is adapted to improve a numerical efficiency of the proposed approach. Computational accuracy and efficiency of the proposed RBDO approach are demonstrated by numerical and engineering problems.

  • In this paper, we propose real-time program that measure open-close frequency of mouth and eyes to detect drowsiness of a driver. This program detects a face to the CCD camera image using OpenCV library. Then that extracts each area using CDF for eye detection and Active Contour for mouth detection based on detected face. This system measures each frequency of Open-Close using extracted area data of eyes and mouth. We propose foundation technique how to perform sleepiness decision of users based on measurement data.

  • In this paper, we performed the comparisons between polarization diversity using dual polarization antennal which has $\pm45^{\circ}$slanted linear polarization characteristics and conventional space diversity in rural and residential areas. The analysis was done by evaluating the diversity gain improvement and cross correlation coefficients between two received signals through each diversity branch. From the results, we could confirmed that space diversity has bigger diversity gain than polarization diversity by 1~2 dB, and there is a little difference of $\pm0.1$ in cross correlation coefficients by analyzing CDF under portable mobile phone environments.

  • This paper presents a novel evaluation method of life expectancy of power system equipment. The life expectancy means expected remaining lifetime; it can be usefully utilized to maintenance planning, equipment replacement planning, and reliability assessment. The proposed method is composed of three steps. Firstly, a cumulative probability for future years is evaluated for targeted age year. Secondly, the cumulative probability is modeled by well-blown cumulative distribution function(CDF) such as Weibull distribution. Lastly, life expectancy is evaluated as the mean value of the model. Since the model CDF is established in the proposed method, it can also evaluate the probability of equipment retirement within specific years. The developed method is applied to examples of generators of combined cycle power plants to show its effectiveness.

  • In a Passive PWR, the successful actuation of Automatic Depressurization System (ADS) is essentially required so that no core damage is occurred following small LOCA. But it has been shown in the previous studies that Core Damage Frequency (CDF) from small LOCA is significantly caused by unavailability of ADS. In this study, the design vulnerabilities impacting the ADS unavailability have been identified and the design improvement items have been proposed through the system reliability assessment using the fault tree methodology The impacts on CDF according to the change of system unavailability have also been analyzed. In addition, small LOCA simulation using RELAP5/MOD3 code has been performed to show the thermal-hydraulic feasibility of the suggested design enhancements.

  • The cable in the cable-supported structures is long, therefore it can be reasonable to apply the different models, compared with those used for general steel elements. This paper compares the statistical models with existing cable fatigue data, after deriving the cdf(cumulative distibution function) with modifying the log-normal distribution, the existing extremal distributions so as to include length effect. The paper presents the appropriate model for analyzing and assessing the fatigue behavior of cable which is being used for actual structures.
