  • Recently, the major trends of NIL are high throughput and large area patterning. For UV NIL, if it can be proceeded in the non-vacuum environment, which greatly simplifies tool construction and greatly shorten process times. However, one key issue in non-vacuum environment is air bubble formation problem. In this paper, numerical analysis of bubble defect of UV NIL is performed. Fluent, flow analysis focused program was utilized and VOF (Volume of Fluid) skill was applied. For various resist-substrate and resist-mold angles, effects of velocity inlet and residual layer thickness of resist on bubble defect formation were investigated. The numerical analyses show that the increases of velocity inlet and residual layer thickness can cause the bubble defect formation, however the decreases of velocity inlet and residual layer thickness take no difference in the bubble defect formation.

  • Although lots of safety inspection and precision safety diagnosis have been conducted on concrete retaining wall, there is no comprehensive analysis on the basis of the accumulated data associated with the statistic. Especially, the concentrated management is necessary on the evaluation items that cause critical damages for the efficient performance. In this regard, this study conducted a correlation analysis between the 18 condition evaluation items and defect index for the concrete retaining wall as well as how each item affects the final defect index as much as in the manual. As a result, correlation coefficient between sliding and overturning was 0.601, which means that they have a strong correlation, and the most influential item on defect index is the condition of drainage that scored the 0.750 correlation coefficient. In addition, as a result of regression analysis, the condition of drainage with the 0.683 correlation coefficient has a strong correlation with the defect index. If the condition evaluation items are integrated or readjusted based on the results of the statistical analysis in this study, the more efficient and accurate maintenance will be possible.

  • Defects in the coating process of plastic automotive components are caused by various causes and phenomena. The correlation between defect occurrence rate and meteorological and environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and fine dust was analyzed. The defect rate data categorized by type and cause was collected for a year from a automotive parts coating company. This data and its correlation with environmental condition was acquired and experimented by machine learning techniques to predict the defect rate at a certain environmental condition. Correspondingly, the model predicted 98% from fine dust and 90% from curtaining (runs, sags) and hence proved its reliability.

  • Atrial septal defect is one of the most frequently encountered congenital heart disease. Up to December 31, 1976, 1682 cardiac patients received cardiac catheterization in the cardiac department of Yonsei university medical college. Out of the 1682 cardiac patients 723 cases had congenital heart disease and only 116 cases had congetial atrial septal defect. This amounted to 16.04% of all those with congenital heart disease. 58 cases of congenital atrial septal defect operated in the chest surgery department were presented. Of these 58 cases of atrial septal defect, 27 cases were male and 31 cases were female. Their ages ranged from 5 years to 54 years. The systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery of 40 out of the 58 cases of atrial septal defect was below 40% of that of the systemic blood pressure: in 6 cases, the range of the systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery was 50-90mmHg; in 12 cases, the range of the systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery was 40-50mmHg. Average age of these was 30. 1 years. This study tends to show that Korean patients with atrial septal defect even though younger have a slight higher systolic pressure of the main pulmonary artery than Western patients have. The pulmonary blood is 1.5-2.5 times of systemic blood flow in 52 cases out of 58 cases of atrial septal defect. In only one of the 58 cases of atrial septal defect, the Rp was found to be as high as 45% of Rs. All other cases were below this level.51 cases had ostium secundum defect, 4 out of these cases had ostium secundum defect combined with mitral incompetence and 6 out of them had double ostium secundum defect. The remaining 7 cases had ostium primum defect. Their atrial defects were repaired under direct vision utilizing extracorporeal circulation, by hemodilution technic combined with moderate hypothermia. 44 cases [2nd atrial septal defect] were repaired by direct sutures while 14 cases, including the 7 cases ostium primum defects needed patches [1 pericardium and 13 teflon patch]. In 4 cases there were single defects while showed two defects. However the associated septal defect was so small that it could be closed by direct sutures. The size of the defect ranged between 6.0cm2and 10.0cm2 in 19 cases[33.7%]: the smallest being 0. 5cm2 and the largest 24cm2. The surgical mortality was 2 cases [3.4%]. These one case with ostium primum defect, could not be resuscitated on operation table. The cause of death in this case was myocardial failure and MI. The other, a case of ostium primum defect had a second operation on the first operative day due to massive bleeding from LV vent-line insertion site. The patient died on 26th post-operative day due to sepsis.

  • Construction defects are major components that result in cost overruns and schedule delays in construction projects. There have been extensive research efforts to investigate the cause of defects. However, little effort has been devoted to analyze correlation among various reasons of construction defects while a defect is not usually an outcome of a single cause, but rather occurs when several interrelated causes combine. Based on this recognition, this paper analyzes 831 nonconformity reports collected from 30 construction projects in Korea from 2011 to 2014. The correlation analysis revealed that a significant portion of construction defects occurred in the procurement and construction phase and as the pattern of function defect and installation defect. Triggered by human error, defective material and faulty method, these defects are treated by conccession, repair, rework that can significantly lower the cost and schedule performance. This paper is significant in terms of providing a theoretical basis for analyzing correlation among various reasons of construction defects and quantitative measures for establishing effective defect prevention strategies.

  • An aircraft power distribution device distributes and controls the power generated by the generator and provides overcurrent protection. There are many defect phenomena that make AC power distribution impossible during flight, which poses a problem in because some electronic equipment cannot be operated. We describe a process of deriving the root cause of defects by using vibration testing equipment to simulate the vibration conditions during aircraft flight, which result in defects. The results show that the cause of the defect is internal wiring damage caused by the vibration of the contactor of the AC power distribution device. Therefore, the shape of the contactor was improved to solve this problem. We also improved the test procedure by performing defect detection tests using vibration testing equipment to detect a faulty contactor. As a result of the improvements, a component certification test and flight test proved that the defect phenomena of the AC electrical master box were improved.

  • Rapid economic growth occurred in Korean since the 1970s. This economic growth caused rapid urbanization and an increase in population in city. As a results, there was a housing shortage problem in korea. The government and construction companies have been continuously building residential houses such as apartments, mansions, others. Apartments mostly consist of residential houses and are generally made from reinforced concrete structure. Reinforced concrete structures including apartments need to be renovated, because they deteriorate with respect to time. However, there is no available data or information regarding the cost or the period of time that is needed for renovates of these apartment. We are especially short of information on the defect data of remodeling construction. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to provide fundamental data about the cause of defect in remodeled apartments as well as the appropriate time to execute renovation through a questionnaire survey with apartment residents as the participants.

  • This article aims to develop an algorithm that detects fire pump defects by analyzing the current signals of an induction motor, which are triggered by changes in the flow rate and pressure of multistage volute pumps that are used for fire services. The operational status of the pumps was categorized into three: first, normal operation; second, a defect that is caused by a change in the current value; and third, a defect occasioned by a change in current, pressure, and flow rate. When a fire pump was in normal operation, the motor's operating current was measured between 5.06 A and 6.9 A, the flow rate was estimated at 0-0.27 m3/min, and the pressure ranged from 0 to 0.47 MPa. In the event that a defect was caused by an abnormal current value in the motor, it was attributed to the pump's adherence. Furthermore, if there was no source of water, the defect was considered to have been induced by phase-loss operation, no-load operation, or run-stop operation, with the current value of each scenario being measured at > 52.8 A, < 4.13 A, > 45.15 A, and < 3.8 A, respectively, placing its overall range between 0 and 50 A. The sources of defects were detected based on an analysis of the flow rate, pressure, and current, which represent the following causes: air inflow into the casing, inadequate suction of water, and reverse-phase operation, respectively. Each cause entailed the following values: when air seeped into the casing, the pressure was measured at 0.24 MPa irrespective of changes in the flow rate; when there was inadequate suction of water, the pressure was recorded between 0 and 0.05 MPa despite changes in the flow rate; and when the power line's reverse-phase loss was the cause of the defect, the pressure was measured at 0.33 MPa for a flow rate of 0 L/min, and a higher flow rate decreased the pressure to nearly 0 MPa. The results of this study will enable engineers to develop a pump defect detection algorithm that is based on an analysis of current, and this algorithm will facilitate the execution of a program that will control a fire pump defect detection system.
