  • To improve the efficiency of water splitting systems for hydrogen production, the high overvoltages of electrochemical reactions caused by catalysts in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER, Oxygen Evolution Reaction) must be reduced. Among them, LDH (Layered Double Hydroxide) compounds containing transition metal such as Ni, are attracting attention as catalyst materials that can replace precious metals such as platinum that are currently used. In this study, nickel foam, an inexpensive metallic porous material, was used as a support, and NiCo LDH (Layered Double Hydroxide) nanocrystals were synthesized through a hydrothermal synthesis process. In addition, changes in the shape, crystal structure, and water decomposition characteristics of the Mo-doped NiCo LDH nanocrystal samples synthesized by doping Mo to improve OER properties were observed.

  • Recently, in order to meet the stricter emission regulations, the proportion of after-treatments for vehicles and vessels has been increasing gradually. The objective of this study is to investigate the improvement of $CH_4$ reduction ability of natural gas oxidation catalyst (NGOC), which reduces toxic gases emitted from CNG buses. Thirteen NGOCs were prepared, and the conversion performance of noxious gases according to the type of supports, the loading amount of noble metal, and surfactant and aging were determined. Support Zeolite supported on No. 3 $NGOC(1Pt-1Pd-3MgO-3CeO_2/(46TiO_2+23Al_2O_3+23Zeolite)$ is an anionic alkali metal/earth metal component that improved the oxidation reactivity between CO and NO and noble metal dispersion, and thus enhanced the $CH_4$ reduction ability. As the loading amount of Pd, a noble metal with a high selectivity to $CH_4$, was increased, the number of reaction sites was increased and the ability to reduce $CH_4$ was improved. No. 11 $NGOC(1Pt-1Pd-3MgO-3CeO_2/(Z20+Al80)$(pH=8.5), to which nitrate surfactant had been added, exhibited well dispersed catalyst particles with no agglomeration and improved the $CH_4$ reduction ability by 5-15%. The $NGOC(2Pt-2Pd-3Cr-3MgO/90Al_2O_3)$(48h aging), which was mildly thermal aged for 48h, increased the $CH_4$ reduction ability to about 10% or less as compared with No. 12 NGOC(Fresh).

  • Hydrogen, a clean energy source free of COx emissions, is poised to replace fossil fuels, with its usage on the rise. Despite its high energy content per unit mass, hydrogen faces limitations in storage and transportation due to its low storage density and challenges in long-term storage. In contrast, ammonia offers a high storage capacity per unit volume and is relatively easy to liquefy, making it an attractive option for storing and transporting large volumes of hydrogen. While NH3 decomposition is an endothermic reaction, achieving excellent low-temperature catalytic activity is essential for process efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The study examined the effects of different zeolite types (5A, NaY, ZSM5) on NH3 decomposition activity, considering differences in pore structure, cations, and Si/Al-ratio. Notably, the 5A zeolite facilitated the high dispersion of Ni across the surface, inside pores, and within the structure. Its low Si/Al ratio contributed to abundant acidity, enhancing ammonia adsorption. Additionally, the presence of Na and Ca cations in the support created medium basic sites that improved N2 desorption rates. As a result, among the prepared catalysts, the 15 wt%Ni/5A catalyst exhibited the highest NH3 conversion and a high H2 formation rate of 23.5 mmol/gcat·min (30,000 mL/gcat·h, 600 ℃). This performance was attributed to the strong metal-support interaction and the enhancement of N2 desorption rates through the presence of medium basic sites.

  • Synthesis of Boehmite particles were performed through the precipitation of aluminium nitrate ($Al_{3}(NO_{3})_3{\cdot}9H_{2}O$) with ammonia water ($NH_{4}OH$) by changing solution pH, mixing procedure, temperature, and feeding flux. The influence of the synthesis condition, which affected on the pH range of the Boehmite formation, particle morphology and pore property, was investigated. The Boehmite particles were formed in the reaction solution of pH 7.5~9. The particles prepared by P2jet type which maintained the pH uniformly during the precipitation resulted in homogeneous particles and pores because of the constant concentration of the reacted ion in the solution. It was resulted in the improvement of the specific surface area and pore volume of the particle at the same time. With the increasing of temperature and the decreasing of the feeding flux, it was occurred the large specific surface area and pore volume. Also it was presented the fibrillar shaped particles upper $60^{\circ}C$ of the reaction temperature. In this study, the optimal condition of the porous Boehmite was in P2jet type with $90^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 2.5 mL/min of the feeding flux. At this time, the specific surface area, pore volume, and average pore size was $385.46m^2/g$, 1.0252 mL/g, 10 nm, respectively.

  • Nanorod and particle shape $CeO_2$ were synthesized via hydrothermal process and precipitation method, respectively, and used as supports of Pt catalyst for water gas shift (WGS) reaction. Three different durations (12, 48, and 96h) for hydrothermal process were applied for the preparation of nanorod type $CeO_2$. 1.0 wt% of Pt was loaded on the prepared supports with incipient wetness method prior to the catalytic activity tests that were carried out at a GHSV of $95,541h^{-1}$, and a temperature range of 200 to $360^{\circ}C$. Varying duration of hydrothermal process led to the difference in physical characteristics of $CeO_2$ nanorods, such as aspect ratio, BET surface area, pore diameter, and pore volume. Consequently, the catalytic activities of Pt/$CeO_2$ nanorods were affected by the physical characteristics of the supports and appeared to be in the order of Pt/$CeO_2$(12) > Pt/$CeO_2$(48) > Pt/$CeO_2$(96). The comparison of the catalytic activities and results of the analysis (XPS, XRD, SEM, BET and TPR) for the supports revealed that the activity of the catalysts depends on chemical states of the Pt and the support materials in the temperature range that is lower than $280^{\circ}C$. However, the activity is rather dependent on the physical characteristic of the supports because the increased gas velocity limits the mass transfer of reactants in micropores of the supports.

  • Industry-academy Collaboration alms to produce synergy-empowerment through co-opt between university and business within R&D and human resource management. The lack of indigenous R&D capabilities makes Korean small businesses not have sustainable competitive advantages. While the Korean government has increased the budgetary supports on small businesses since the late 1990s to enhance technological capabilities of small businesses, the competitiveness gap between large and small firms has been widened. The alternative for the government support is considered as active industry-academy collaboration. After exploring various policy measures for the collaboration with classifying them and pointing out their problems from a technological innovation perspective, this study shows the more expected roles of the collaboration to be a catalyst coordinating the R&D activities among the local small businesses, local universities, and public research institutes. Based upon the analyses, this study suggests several policy alternatives to facilitate the technological innovations of small businesses in the regional innovation clusters.

  • Catalytic hydrodechlorination of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) included in the transformer oil was carried out to detoxify PCBs and to recycle the treated oil. Catalysts such as 0.98 wt% Pt and 0.79 wt% Pd on ${\gamma}$-alumina (${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$) support, 12.8 wt% Ni on ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, and 57.6 wt% Ni on silica-alumina ($SiO_2-Al_2O_3$) support were used for the catalytic hydrodechlorination. Various supercritical fluids such as carbon dioxide, propane and isobutane were used as reaction media. The effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, catalysts, and supercritical fluids on the catalytic hydrodechlorination were examined in detail. The detoxification degree increased in the order of Ni > Pd > Pt. This is possibly due to higher metal loading and larger metal size of the Ni catalyst. Below $175^{\circ}C,\;scCO_2$ was found as the most effective reaction media for the catalytic hydrodechlorination of PCBs included in the transformer oil.

  • As global economic conditions are getting uneasy and polarization of our economy is intensified, the economic sentiment of small businesses is still low and unstable. The collapse of worldwide banking systems due to sub prime crisis in 2007 became the catalyst that shakes financial industries in each country in the world; the most sentiment people, small businesspersons, also have hard time facing survival way out, facing a great crisis. All organizing powers including manufactures, wholesales and retails are being gradually greater in mutual relations and dependence, and unstable factors about risks are also increasing. For exterior environmental and physical risk factors which cannot make small businesses survive themselves by developing ways out are eventually increasing, those who cannot cope with these factors face a great crisis. Although the government tries hard to overcome this situation conducting many ways, the effect does not continue. It is the real state that independent business markets including overall employment and establishing business have vicious cycle that they cannot be improved, due to increase of employment centered on short-term labors which lack durability in creation of employment and decline of household income. Recently, growth shows indication of slowdown because of multinational risk factors including financial crisis in each country in Europe, the death of Kim Jung-il, relationship with North Korea, and unstability of war situation in the Middle East Asia. Experts expect that growth rate will be about 4%, and independent business that ordinary people feel is still gloomy. It's reality that there is no adequate alternative for lack of jobs, unstable employment and a means of living after retirement. Also, the fact that large companies enter the market which is narrow and in the excessive competition should be an environmental factor that makes the situation worse. The business concept, a franchise, is the part we should think about whether it is the institutional solution that can guarantee independent businessmen stable life. Major companies are frightfully entering the market today, breaking the barrier to entry and shouting of a win-win with independent businesses. It's the small businesspersons who go through painful domestic recession, cannot predict the future and manage confusing and unstable independent business. It's very important to restore the domestic economy through wisely boosting consumption as soon as possible. It's also important to lead the situation by gathering powers of the government and related organizations, agonizing, suggesting solutions, and establishing accurate directions. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to suggest ways to strengthen competitiveness of small businesspersons by examining small business support policies which are currently implemented.

  • Even traces of CO in the hydrogen-rich feed gas to proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) poison the platinum anode electrode and dramatically decrease the power output. In this work, a variety of catalytic materials consisting of $Cu/Ce_xZr_{1-x}O_2$, (x = 0.0-1.0) were synthesised, characterized and tested for CO oxidation and preferential oxidation of CO (PROX). These catalysts prepared by hydrothermal and deposition-precipitation methods. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, XRF, SEM, BET, $N_2O$ titration and oxygen storage capacity (OSC) measurement. The effects of composition of the support and degree of excess oxygen were investigated fur activity and $CO_2$ selectivity with different temperatures. The composition of the support markedly influenced the PROX activity. Among the various $Cu/Ce_xZr_{1-x}O_2$ catalysts having different composition, $Cu/Ce_{0.9}Zr_{0.1}O_2$ and $Cu/Ce_{0.7}Zr_{0.3}O_2$ showed the highest activities (>99%) and selectivities (ca.50%) in the temperature range of $150{\sim}160^{\circ}C$. It was found that by using of $Ce_xZr_{1-x}O_2$ mixed oxide support which possesses a high oxygen storage capacity, oxidation-reduction activity of Cu-based catalyst was improved, which resulted in the increase of catalytic activity and selectivity of CO oxidation in excess $H_2$ environments.

  • On adsorbing carbon monoxide (CO) on the silica supported ruthenium/iron alloy ($Ru/Fe-SiO_2$) samples above mole ratio 9/1 of Ru/Fe five bands ($2138.7{\sim}2142.5cm^{-1}$, $2067.3{\sim}2073.1cm^{-1}$, $1976.7{\sim}2017.2cm^{-1}$, $1737.9{\sim}1799.3cm^{-1}$, $1625.7cm^{-1}$) were observed, and in $Ru/Fe-SiO_2$ samples below mole ratio 8/2 of Ru/Fe two bands ($1934.0{\sim}1990.2cm^{-1}$, $1625.7cm^{-1}$) were observed. The $2138.7{\sim}2142.5cm^{-1}$ bands, the $2067.3{\sim}2073.1cm^{-1}$ bands, and the $1988.3{\sim}2030.7cm^{-1}$ bands may be ascribed to stretching vibrations of CO molecules lineally bonded to the Ru atoms on supported Ru/Fe cluster surface, the $1737.9{\sim}1799.3cm^{-1}$ bands to stretching vibrations of CO molecules bridge bonded to the Ru atoms on supported Ru/Fe cluster surface or to stretching vibrations of CO molecules bonded to the Ru atoms on high Miller index planes, and the $1934.0{\sim}1990.2cm^{-1}$ bands to stretching vibrations of CO molecules lineally bonded to the Fe atoms on supported Ru/Fe cluster surface. The absorbances of the $1934.0{\sim}1990.2cm^{-1}$ bands in $Ru/Fe-SiO_2$ samples gradually increased with the increases of Ru/Fe mole ratio below the ratio of 8/2. This phenomena may be ascribed to the increases of Fe concentration of surface compared with the one of the sample and to the increases of surface area of supported Ru/Fe cluster according as increase of Ru/Fe mole ratio below the ratio of 8/2 compared with the $Fe-SiO_2$ sample.
