운전조건에 따른 가변속 캐스케이드 열펌프의 성능 특성 연구 (Study on the Performance of a Variable Speed Cascade Heat Pump under Various Operating Conditions)

  • Most researches done on heat pumps have been on heat pumps for refrigeration, cooling and heating. There is therefore the need for more research on hot water heat pumps, especially for high temperature. Even though the cascade heat pump cycle has a great potential more efficient hot water generation even at low evaporating temperatures, it has been researched least for this purpose. In this study, the heating performance of a variable speed cascade heat pump was investigated by varying operating conditions. For the same heating capacity values, it was found that increasing the low stage compressor speed was more suitable for enhancing the performance of the system to get a higher temperature.

  • In this paper a novel converter structure based on cascade converter family is presented. The suggested multilevel advanced cascade converter has benefits such as reduction in number of switches and power losses. Comparison depict that proposed topology has the least number of IGBTs among all multilevel cascade type converters which have been introduced recently. This characteristic causes low cost and small installation area for suggested converter. The number of on state switches in current path is less than conventional topologies and so the output voltage drop and power losses are decreased. Symmetric and asymmetric modes are analyzed and compared with conventional multilevel cascade converter. Simulation and experimental results are presented to illustrate validity, good performance and effectiveness of the proposed configuration. The suggested converter can be applied in medium/high voltage and PV applications.

Helium Recondensing System Utilizing Cascade Roebuck Refrigerators

  • This paper describes a design of the helium-recondensing system utilizing cascade Roebuck refrigerators. Superconducting generator or motor has the superconducting field wind-ing in its rotor that should be continuously cooled by cryogen. Since liquid helium transfer from the stationary system to the rotor is problematic, cumbersome, and inefficient, the novel concept of a rotating helium-recondensing system is contrived. The vaporized cold helium inside the rotor is isothermally compressed by centrifugal force and expanded sequentially in cascade refrigerators until the helium is recondensed at 4.2 K. There is no helium coupling between the rotor and the stationary liquid helium storage. Thermodynamic analysis of the cascade refrigeration system is performed to determine the key design parameters. The loss mechanisms are explained to identify entropy generation that degrades the performance of the system.

Numerical Study of Passive Control with Slotted Blading in Highly Loaded Compressor Cascade at Low Mach Number

  • With the aim to increase blade loadings and stable operating range in highly loaded compressors, this article has been conducted to explore, through a numerical parametric study, the potential of passive control using slotted bladings in cascade configurations. The objective of this numerical investigation is to analyze the influence of location, width and slope of the slots and therefore identify the optimal configuration. The approach is based on two dimensional cascade geometry, low speed regime, steady state and turbulent RANS model. The results show the efficiency of this passive technique to delay separation and enhance aerodynamic performances of the compressor cascade. A maximum of 28.3% reduction in loss coefficient have been reached, the flow turning is increased with approximately $5^0$ and high loading over a wide range of angle of attack have been obtained for the optimized control parameter.

  • In this paper, a small supersonic wind tunnel is designed and built to study the flow characteristics of a supersonic impulse turbine cascade. The flow is visualized by means of a single pass Schlieren system. The supersonic cascade with 3-dimensional supersonic nozzle was tested over a wide range of nozzle installation angle. Highly complicated flow patterns including shocks, nozzle-cascade interaction and shock boundary layer interactions are observed.

  • 본 논문에서는 계층적 공정 경쟁 기반 병렬 유전자 알고리즘 (Hierarchical Fair Competition Genetic Algorithm: HFCGA)을 이용하여 Ball & Beam 시스템에 최적의 Fuzzy Cascade 제어기를 설계하고자 한다. Ball & Beam 시스템은 비선형적이며 Beam의 마찰계수와 Ball의 중력 가속도를 고려하여 Ball의 위치를 조정하는 시스템이다. 이러한 Ball & Beam 시스템에 대해 Fuzzy Cascade 제어기를 설계하고, 조기 수렴에 문제가 있는 기존의 유전자 알고리즘을 개선한 HFCGA를 이용하여 제어기의 파라미터를 최적화 한다. 마지막으로 실제 플랜트에 적용하여 설계된 제어기의 성능을 평가하고, PD Cascade 제어기와 Fuzzy Cascade 제어기의 성능을 비교한다.

Analysis of Heavy Water Separation Cascade Using Bithermal ${H_2}$/$H_2$O Exchange Process

  • The 3-stage cascade composed of the multisection-type bithermal $H_2$/$H_2O$-exchange columns was suggested for heavy water separation. In order to study the separation characteristics for the cascade, a matrix equation with 18 simultaneous equations was composed and the concentrations and flow rates were calculated for the all parts of the cascade. Product D-concentration decreases and extraction yield increases with increasing cut in each stage, which is one of the principal parameters of the separation characteristics. The optimization of the 3-stage cascade can be made by case study using the matrix equation.

Restoration of the isotopic composition of reprocessed uranium hexafluoride using cascade with additional product

  • In reprocessed uranium, derived from an impoverished fuel of light-water moderated reactors, there are isotopes of 232, 234, 236U, which make its recycling remarkably difficult. A method of concentration of 235U target isotope in cascade's additional product was proposed to recover the isotopic composition of reprocessed uranium. A general calculation procedure is presented and a parameters' optimization of multi-flow cascades with additional products. For the first time a numeric model of a cascade that uses the cuts of partial flows of stages with relatively high separation factors was applied in this procedure. A novel computing experiment is carried out on separation of reprocessed uranium hexafluoride with providing a high concentration of 235U in cascade's additional product with subsequent dilution. The parameters of cascades' stages are determined so as to allow reducing the 232, 234, 236U isotope content up to the acceptable. It was demonstrated that the dilution of selected products by the natural waste makes it possible to receive a low enriched uranium hexafluoride that meets the ASTM C996-15 specification for commercial grade.

2차원 Cascade에 의한 연료펌프의 공동발생 해석 (Cavitation in Fuel Pump with 2D Cascade Modeling)

  • 원심형 연료펌프의 공동발생 특성을 해석하기 위하여 2차원 cascade 모델링을 적용한 수치 해석 코드를 개발하였다. 해석 코드의 해석 능력에 대한 타당성을 검증한 후, 원심형 펌프의 임펠러 블레이드 주위 유동에 대한 공동 발생을 예측하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 원심형 연료 펌프의 작동 조건에서는 공동이 발생하지 않는 것을 확인 하였다. 그러나 펌프의 회전속도가 설계점 조건보다 높은 작동점 이외의 영역에서는 공동이 발생할 가능성이 있다. 작동유체의 온도가 낮아지면 공동 발생의 위험이 감소 하지만 온도가 높아지면 작동 영역을 조금 벗어난 입구 유속에서도 공동이 발생할 수 있음을 알았다.
