Home economics teachers perceived that the objective of FLS was to help students explore their careers and make preliminary decisions. In addition, teachers thought that FLS should be run by active students' participation to find out their dreams and talents. However, teachers felt difficulties in obtaining information or documents related to implementing FLS. Moreover, there were lack of connected activities with local communities to operate FLS. Teachers recognized that it is necessary to receive FLS-related education. Regarding home economics teachers' role in FLS implement, they should provide career education with a perspective of lifelong career and nurture students' capability to lead their lives by themselves. In that sense, FLS should help students find out their dreams and talents, think about their career, set up lifelong career plan through home economics education, and nurture capability to lead their lives. In addition, home economics teachers should provide continuous career education in home economics education at academic semesters.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the difference in learning styles, learning stages, and preferred nursing specialties between two groups of nursing programs, regular BSN and RN-BSN. The survey instrument was a simplified version of the Kolb's Learning-Style Instrument which was developed by the researcher, a self- reported learning style questionnaire with twelve questions related to the four learning stages. The sample of the study was the 218 nursing students in a university in Korea which consisted of 58 junior and 67 senior students in the regular BSN program, and 58 junior and 35 senior students in the RN-BSN program. Main findings of the study were as the following. 1) Over all, the major learning style was either the diverger or the accomodator; the most preferred learning stage was the concrete experience and the leastly preferred learning stage was the abstractive conceptualization learning stage; and the most preferred nursing specialty in the future was the clinical nursing. 2) Students in the BSN program preferred four learning stages with rather equal proportion, whereas the students in the RN-BSN program preferred the concrete experience learning stage as high as 60.3% and the abstractive conceptualization learning stage as low as 9.5%. 3)For the future career, the junior students of both programs preferred clinical and educational nursing areas, and the senior students of both programs preferred clinical and research areas. The main reason of the difference seemed to result from the different courses such as Health Education or Teaching Method for the juniors and the Nursing Research for the seniors of both groups. Because the sample of the study was limited to a university, it is difficult to generalize the study results for the entire nursing students in Korea. Continuous studies with larger numbers of nursing students and nurse educators, and experimental studies measuring the effects of new curricula are needed for the future.

  • Learning at the elbow of scientist is a well-known educational approach to improve students' understanding of science and scientific practice. This study, in the perspective of legitimate peripheral participation in a community of practice, explores how students' scientific practice and perception could be shifted through R&E program with the development of participation. Data from participant observation for 18 months and in-depth interviews were analyzed based on constant comparative method to extract common characteristics of students' participation and major shifts in their scientific practices and perceptions. Students' development of participation was categorized into three stages: legitimate, peripheral, and full participation. In the stage of peripheral participation, students perceived themselves as mere students and showed passive engagement. They just followed the directions of researchers and didn't know what they should be doing. But through continuous participation, students showed enhanced engagement like voluntary article reading, role assignments, and establishing norms in a community of practice with the reference of scientists'. In this stage of transitional participation, students also showed a deepened perception on everyday life of scientist and the community of scientist. And finally in the stage of full participation, students showed responsibility and ownership on research and continuous efforts to refine their research. They recognized themselves as beginning scientists. With these findings, this paper highlighted the dynamic processes of students' development of scientific practices and identity through R&E participation. It also suggests implications for research programs for education, especially for students who have already articulated a science-related career but still have only foggy notions about science.

Relationships are formed when you are connected to another person and community, feel interested in each other, feel a sense of bond and belonging, and maintain a stable and satisfactory relationship. This is not skill or technology, but is related to life attitude and value, and continuous learning and training are required. Various developmental tasks in youth have something in common with relationships. Relationships positively affect the lives of young people, such as satisfaction with college life in the early stages of youth, adaptation to college life, personality, and career decision. Relationships are also very important in faith because human existence and faith are defined and formed through relationships. The relationship between the community and others plays an important role in spiritual development for the meaning of life and inner growth. In terms of teachers, teachers have to try to change their roles such as facilitators, guides, managers, and mentors. For the educational purpose and content, it was suggested that relationships should be the ultimate purpose and the educational content for this was presented in three different types of relationships and each main contents to be dealt with. In terms of educational method, it was proposed to select a learner-centered group learning method that induces communication and active participation of learners to cause interaction by considering other elements of education according to the content of the relationship in the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions. In the aspects of educational results and evaluation, it was proposed to confirm that what was considered during the educational planning stage was effectively carried out in actual education, to evaluate various evaluation methods, various aspects, and to summarize the evaluation results for the specific application.
