  • Semiconductor carbon nanotube was grown on oxided silicon wafer with atmosphere pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) method and investigated the electrical property after thermal oxidation at $300^{\circ}C$ in air. The electrical property was measured at room temperature in air after thermal oxidation at $300^{\circ}C$ for various times in air. Semiconductor carbon nanotube was steadily changed to metallic carbon nanotube as increasing of thermal oxidation times at $300^{\circ}C$ in air. Some removed area of carbon nanotube surface was shown with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) after thermal oxidation for 6 hours at $300^{\circ}C$ in air.

  • In this paper, we have investigated thermal properties by changing the content of carbon nanotube, which is component part of semiconductive shield in underground power transmission cable. Heat capacity (${\Delta}H$), glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) were measured with the samples of eight, through DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), and the measurement ranges of temperature selected from $-100[^{\circ}C]\;to\;100[^{\circ}C]$ with heating temperature selected per $4[^{\circ}C/min]$ Also, high temperature, heat degradation initiation temperature, and heat weight loss were measured by TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) in the temperature from $0[^{\circ}C]\;to\;700[^{\circ}C]$ with rising temperature of $10[^{\circ}C/min]$. As a result, the Glass transition temperatures of the sample were showed near $-20[^{\circ}C]{\sim}25[^{\circ}C]$, and the heat capacity and melting temperature from the DSC was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube, while, thermal diffusivity was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube. Also, heat degradation initiation temperature from the TGA results was increasing according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube with CNT/EEA. Therefore, heat stabilities of EVA, which contained the we VA (vinyl acetate), showed the lowest.

  • The electronic properties of carbon nanotube are currently the focus of considerable interest. In this paper, the electronic properties of finite length effect in carbon nanotube for cabon nanoscale device is presented. To calculate the electronic properties of carbon nanotube, Empirical potential method (Brenner' hydrocarbon potential) for carbon and Tight binding molecular dynamic (TBMD) simulation are used. As a result of study, we have known that the value of the band gap decreases with increasing the length of the tube. The energy band gap of (6, 6) armchair carbon nanotube have the ranges between 0.3 eV and 2.5 eV. Also, our results were compared with the results of the other computational techniques. As that result, our results are very well united.

  • we have investigated the field emission characteristics of the CNT/TEOS hybrid thin films fabricated by a spray method. It is found that the CNT/TEOS hybrid emitters show high current density, low turn on field, and long-term emission stability compared to the CNT emitters. These efficient field emission characteristics of the CNT/TEOS hybrid emitters are attributed to the TEOS sol, acting as a protection layer of nanotube emitter by surrounding the nanotube tip as well as a binder material to enhance the adhesion of nanotube emitters to the substrate. Therefore, the CNT/TEOS hybrid emitters could be utilized as an alternative for the efficient and reliable field emitters.

  • This study intends to provide the analytical and experimental damping characterization of carbon nanotube/epoxy composites. A constitutive model based on continuum mechanics is employed to describe epoxy and the perfectly bonded and partially bonded nanotubes. An interfacial stick-slip between the nanotubes and epoxy is considered to characterize the damping of the composites. For experimental estimation, beam-type specimens are prepared with a variation of nanotube concentration from 0.5% to 2% in weight. An ultrasonic agitation method is employed for enhancing the nanotube dispersion within epoxy. Damping of the composites is characterized in terms of the strain and the nanotube concentration. Results show that the nanotube concentration significantly affects the damping characteristics of the nanocomposites. A good correlation is found between the analytical prediction based on the stick-slip and the experimental measurements.

  • This paper presents an investigation about superharmonic and subharmonic resonances of a carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam subjected to lateral harmonic load with damping effect based on the modified couple stress theory. As reinforcing phase, three different types of single walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) distribution are considered through the thickness in polymeric matrix. The governing nonlinear dynamic equation is derived based on the von Kármán nonlinearity with using of Hamilton's principle. The Galerkin's decomposition technique is utilized to discretize the governing nonlinear partial differential equation to nonlinear ordinary differential equation and then is solved by using of multiple time scale method. Effects of different patterns of reinforcement, volume fraction, excitation force and the length scale parameter on the frequency-response curves of the carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam are investigated. The results show that volume fraction and the distribution of CNTs play an important role on superharmonic and subharmonic resonances of the carbon nanotube reinforced composite beams.

  • Si nanowire/multiwalled carbon nanotube nanocomposite arrays were synthesized. Vertically aligned Si nanowire arrays were fabricated by Ag nanodendrite-assisted wet chemical etching of n-type wafers using $HF/AgNO_3$ solution. The composite structure was synthesized by formation of a sheath of carbon multilayers on a Si nanowire template surface through a thermal CVD process under various conditions. The results of Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and high resolution transmission electron microcopy demonstrate that the obtained nanocomposite has a Si nanowire core/carbon nanotube shell structure. The remarkable feature of the proposed method is that the vertically aligned Si nanowire was encapsulated with a multiwalled carbon nanotube without metal catalysts, which is important for nanodevice fabrication. It can be expected that the introduction of Si nanowires into multiwalled carbon nanotubes may significantly alter their electronic and mechanical properties, and may even result in some unexpected material properties. The proposed method possesses great potential for fabricating other semiconductor/CNT nanocomposites.

  • The mechanical properties of Carbon nanotube is superior such that it can be used in many areas of engineering field in the future, though the analysis of the mechanical behavior of nanotube is expensive due to its small size and uniqueness when the molecular dynamics or a generalized function theory is applied. To overcome these disadvantages, the force field between Carbon atoms can be substituted by structural members. In this study, main forces between atoms in Carbon nanotube are described by 0.1 nanometer length circular beams and linear behaviors under compression are investigated. The linear behavior is in good agreement with results by other methods. This method can be used in nonlinear analysis of nanotube when the beam elements are properly configured.
