  • While there a growing interest in Voluntary Carbon Disclosure (VCD), comparatively little is discussed whether the improved quality of voluntary carbon disclosure can lead to subsequent changes in a company's carbon reduction performance. Drawing on companies under the Korean Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) with the contents analysis of their sustainable reports, the present research seeks to address the existing knowledge gaps in the current literature on environmental disclosure. Findings empirically show that an increase in the voluntary carbon disclosure score is positively transformed into changes in carbon performance and further develop that the effect of voluntary carbon disclosure on carbon performance varies depending on changes in management capability with the moderation effect.

  • As a result of the Rietveld analysis to determine the effect of carbon nanotubes on the hydration products of cement composites, the quantitative difference of hydration products according to the addition rate of carbon nanotubes was not significant. Ettringite, an early hydration product, was measured to be slightly higher than the planes with carbon nanotubes over all ages. Therefore, it seems that carbon nanotubes have no effect on the hydration production in cement paste.

  • Heme oxygenase is a rate-limiting enzyme in heme catabolism that cleaves heme to form biliverdin, iron, and carbon monoxide. Heme oxygenase-1 is expressed in many types of cells and tissues and is highly induced in response to oxidative stress. Carbon monoxide, one of the products of heme oxygenase, can stimulate soluble guanylate cyclase and dilate the vascular smooth muscle. So, the induction of heme oxygenase by lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced oxydative stress and the effect of the resultant carbon monoxide on aortic contractility were examined in this study. Zinc protoporphyrine IX (ZnPP), a inhibitor of heme oxygenase, elicited weak contraction of thoracic aortic ring, and this effect was more potent in aorta of LPS-treated rats than control and was blocked by methylene blue. The hyperreactivity to ZnPP in LPS-treated group was blocked by co-treatment with aminoguanidine. In the aortic ring of LPS-treated rats, ZnPP didn't change the vasoreactivity to phenylephrine or acetylcholine. ZnPP elicited hyper-tensive effect in concious rats, and pretreatment with LPS did not affect this effect. Prazosin significantly diminished the hypertensive effect of ZnPP. These results indicate that LPS induced heme oxygenase in aotra, and the resultant carbon monoxide diminished the aortic reactivity to vasoconstrictor.

  • This research aims to examine (1) the effect of carbon emission disclosure on firm value, (2) the effect of good corporate governance on firm value, (3) the mediating role of financial performance between carbon emission disclosure and firm value, and (4) the mediating role of financial performance between good corporate governance and firm value. The research sample includes 43 mining, agro, and manufacturing firms listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange over the 2015-2017 period. Carbon emission disclosure is measured by an indicator of the Global Reporting Initiative Series of Environmental Aspect. Good corporate governance is measured by the corporate governance score of shareholder rights, boards of directors, outside directors, audit committee and internal auditor, and disclosure to investors. Financial performance is measured by return on assets, while firm value is measured by Tobin's Q. Data analysis uses the structural equation modeling. The result shows carbon emission disclosure and good corporate governance have no direct effect on firm value. On the other hand, financial performance mediates the effect of carbon emission disclosure and good corporate governance on firm value. It shows that higher carbon emission disclosure and good corporate governance are meaningless for the investor if they do not give any financial performance improvement.

  • Recently new rehabilitation techniques have been proposed with advanced composite materials like carbon fiber, aramid, glass fiber sheet and so forth. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of reinforced concrete columns confined with carbon fiber sheet and evaluate the degree of their strengthening effect. For the test, the specimen size of column is 15cm$\times$15cm$\times$90cm reinforced with 4 number of main bars of 10 mm diameter, tied bars of 6 mm diameter and slenderness ratio 20. Columns were wrapped with carbon fiber sheet along the column length. It is necessary to make some assumption regarding the confinement of carbon fiber sheet to apply to reinforced concrete columns under concentric loads. The strength gain effect of columns confined with carbon fiber sheet could be predicted using the proposed equation.

  • In the open system (vessel and pipe), the maximum corrosion rate of carbon steel at ca. 80 ℃ was obtained due to the decrease of dissolved oxygen by increasing the solution temperature. Effect of temperature on the cavitation damage can be explained through several mechanisms. Moreover, when cavitation occurs on the surface of metal and alloys, whether cavitation is erosion or corrosion is still controversial. This work focused on the effect of solution temperature on the corrosion of carbon steel under cavitation in an open system, Tests were performed using an electrochemical cavitation corrosion tester in 3.5% NaCl solution and the effect of solution temperature of carbon steel was discussed. Cavitation corrosion rate can be increased by cavitation, but when the temperature increases, a dissolved oxygen content reduces at a very high speed and thus the maximum cavitation corrosion temperature changed from 80 ℃ to 45 ℃. Below the maximum cavitation temperature, the electrochemical effect was more dominant than the mechanical effect by increasing temperature, but over the maximum cavitation temperature, the mechanical effect was more dominant than the electrochemical effect by increasing temperature.

  • The effect of heat treatment temperature (HTT) on the mechanical properties of polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fiber had been investigated. The heat treatment on the carbon fiber was conducted under high vacuum atmosphere of $10^{-6}mmHg$, and the range of temperature of $1,000^{\circ}C$ to $2,000^{\circ}C$. As a results, The tensile strength of carbon fiber and carbon fiber composites showed increasing tendency with the rise of heat treatment temperature. And, the shape parameter of Weibull distribution for the strength of carbon single fiber showed an increasing trend until $1,800^{\circ}C$. But the shape parameter of Weibull distribution for the strength of carbon fiber composites showed no clear tendency with the rise of heat treatment temperature. The cause of reinforcement effect of the carbon fiber by the heat treatment was regarded as the carbonization of carbon single fiber.

  • This study was carried out to quantify degree of contribution of harvested wood product (HWP) on mitigation of climate change by valuation of public benefits, environmentally and economically. The potential carbon dioxide emission reduction of HWP was estimated by accounting carbon storage effect and substitution effect. Based on 2014 statistics of Korea Forest Service, domestic HWPs were sorted by two categories, such as wood products produced domestically from domestic and imported roundwood. The wood products were divided into seven items; sawnwood, plywood, particle board, fiberboard (MDF), paper (including pulp), biomass (wood pellet) and other products. The carbon stock of wood products and substitution effects during manufacturing process was evaluated by items. Based on the relevant carbon emission factor and life cycle analysis, the amount of carbon dioxide emission per unit volume on HWP was quantified. The amounts of carbon stock of HWP produced from domestic and from imported roundwood were 3.8 million $tCO_{2eq}$., and 2.6 million $tCO_{2eq}$., respectively. Also, each reduction of carbon emission by substitution effect of HWP produced from domestic and imported roundwood was 3.1 million $tCO_{2eq}$. and 2.1 million $tCO_{2eq}$., respectively. The results of this study, the amount of carbon emission reduction of HWP, can be effectively used as a basic data for promotion of wood utilization to revise and establish new wood utilization promotion policy such as 'forest carbon offset scheme', and 'carbon storage labeling system of HWP'.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of activated carbon on leave production of Allium tuberosum. Growth characteristics including plant height and leaf length were the highest when activated carbon was added with 5%, suggesting that optimum amount of activated carbon was ranged from 5 to 10%. Weight of fresh green vegetable in Allium tuberosum was low in control. And fresh weight of Allium tuberosum was higher in 5% treatment of activated carbon. However, when the plants were grown in activated carbon of $5{\sim}10%$, fresh yield of green vegetable of Allium tuberosum can be increased by using Activated Carbon. Activated carbon can be utilized as a soil conditioner in agricultural crop areas.

  • In this paper, static and oscillatory loss of stability of carbon nanotube conveying fluid and modelled as a thin-walled beam is investigated. Analytically nonlocal effect, transverse shear and rotary inertia are incorporated in this study. The governing equations and the boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's principle. Numerical analysis is performed by using extend Galerkin method which enables us to obtain more exact solutions compared with conventional Galerkin method. Variations of critical flow velocity for analytically nonlocal effect, partially nonlocal effect and local effect of carbon nanopipes are investigated and pertinent conclusion is outlined.
